  • Yes, please cite. I have read two citations the Lincoln, upon arriving in Richmond, said 'Let 'em down easy.' The was also conveyed to Grant, hence the release at Appomattox Courthouse. Sherman was in the same meeting, but Sherman rightfully held the belief the 'they should feel the heavy hand of war'.

  • When asked to Lincoln "Why not let the South go peacefully" Lincoln replied "Let them go! Who would pay for the government?"

  • @TheFlamingbrownie do you have a citation for this?

  • I agree. I have always admired the army of Northern Virginia. As an Irish Briton the American Civil war always seemed difficult to fathom, setting the issue of slavery apart. But, now it seems clear that it was about the Union. Sadly, every nation has undergone civil war and upheaval, but without Lincoln it would have been an even more dreadful period. Thankfully what emerged was better and greater than anything that existed before.

  • @TheJonnyzeus Slavery was only a side-issue when the war broke out. It was the more general principle of the right to self-govern. The Federal government taxed the Southern states far harder than their Northern counterparts, and NEEDED the Southern tax revenue to keep their central government strong.

  • @parafleet usually by propaganda and a false sense of nationalism. It's not really really a secret as far as war. WW2, the Revolution. and so on. Hitler is more of a story of fear and indoctrination.

  • @parafleet you are still comparing war, to murder, and genocide. Lincoln could have let everyone go and no war would have been fought. Same thing with the southern government officials. Your correlation again is somewhat vague, as wars happen continuously, murder and genocide, as well. However they are all different.

  • @parafleet I would love you to correlate. But the comparison is too much of a surface issue given the context of of each situation. the only comparison is between Lee and Grant. Hitler and Manson can't really be compared to the other two nor to each other do to the drastic change in context of their time.

  • @parafleet I appreciate your comment, but I don't think I can really follow your point being made. It's somewhat difficult to compare Grant and Lee to Hitler and Manson.

  • This may be a stuipd qeustion but why did the black slaves help fight the north? Was it because they were forced to by their owners?

  • Lets get one thing strait. Lee was against slavery and succession and a great General.

  • Excellent video.....Well done

  • So was there free slaves fighting in the confederacy?

  • yes actually. Jim Lewis was one, there was an entire Texas Cavalry that was an all black regiment. Nathan Bedford Forrest actually had freedmen and slaves fighting under him, which is kind of funny considering the kind of history pegged on him.

  • @rhslinebacker33, there is no definitive proof that General Nathan Bedford Forrest started the Klu Klux Klan, so there is no reason to believe that he did. In no documents or any evidences of history does it ever show that.

  • @ftbshack I never implied that he did, I stated of the history pegged on him. Read the words more carefully

  • Southern pensions? Dumb fuck - all kinds of mulattoes were around -- slaves who were sons of theowners -- who were often the blacks that whipped other blacks, did the dirty work of stealing children from the mother, catching and whipping run aways - ect.

Those niggers did fight for the Confederacy - but were not allowed IN the army. They were still slaves of some officer - still sucked his dick, cleaned his ass, fed his horse.

    Those "blacks" were around.

    But for regular slaves --no

  • again nice accusation but you can't back any of it up.

  • NO dumb fuck - no "entire units" were freed blacks. Sorry idiot, more myths.

There WERE no freed blacks in the Confederacy idiot -- Davis issued his "re-enslave" proclamation Jan 5 1863. All slaves ever freed "shall be placed back on the slave status -- forever"

The blacks who worked on the earthworks were SLAVES idiot. Not freed blacks - they were slaves, they were hung, whipped, and treated like slaves because they WERE slaves.

  • actually if you'd check the Confederate Constitution it strictly prohibits the beating, whipping, and murder of slaves. So you wrong, Why don't you check out the Baton Rouge Guard, a black unit, taken prisoner of war at Gettysburg were several black confederates fully armed and uniformed, Jackson's army in Frederick, Maryland had 3,000 black soldiers as reported by Dr. lewis Stenier of the United States Army and the state of Tennessee paid close to a thousand blacks veterans penchants

  • No dumb fuck - Im familiar with the CSA Constitution. It does not say a word about not raping whipping or beating slaves.

Yes - several individual blacks were with the army -- not IN the army. You don't know how "black" they were.

Many "black" men were sons of the slave owner, and for various reasons, the owner let them do all kinds of shit -- fuck the slaves, whip the slaves, hold the slaves down while the owner raped the slaves --

  • Sorry dumb fuck -- Lee had virtually NO men by the end -- they had deserted.

He had run himself from Richmond, like a coward, as soon as the Union breeched the earth works. He took many soldiers with him.

They were ALL running like cowards. They didnt stay in Richmond and fight the yanks. They just fucking ran, leaving the citizens to fend for themselves.

Lee himself said "My army is evaporating"--- he should have said - the pussies that ran away with me are now leaving me.

  • dude you are so stupid, the freed plenty of slaves that took part in the defense of Richmond. Entire Cavalry and Infantry Units fought in the West entirely Black, and blacks fought in the ranks of Jackson , Cleburne, and Forrest for most of the war.

  • Oh -- so you think they teach frontal assualts over a mile of open ground against the best rifles and marksman on earth? Is that the Lee technique they teach?

Or maybe you mean the Lee technique of using slaves to build defenses?

Or maybe they teach his technique of running like a pussy from Richmond when the slave built earth works started to fall, leaving his people to the tender mercies of the enemy -- the surrendering as soon as he was surrounded.

  • your ignorance is astounding, it was a phase of transition war that neither side funny understood the capabilities and practices of the war or their technology. Slaves building defenses would be hard since you already said that frontal assaults is what was used. There was actually a battle at Richmond in which freedmen fought for the south. And the surrender was for the sake of his men, and country not wanting to expose them to decades of guerrilla fighting. How stupid really are you?

  • phase? Dumb fuck no one on EARTH should have known the folly of that assualt better than Lee, but the time the dunderhead did it.

There was no battle at Richmond were "freedmen" blacks fought tor the South idiot. Jefferson Davis, retard, had issued his proclamation placing ALL freed slaves "back on the slave status- forever".

  • he did it because as taught he had attacked both flank and been repulsed

And yes the defense of Richmond was by black freedmen, and no Davis did not condemn a forever status moron, his was already working on plans of emancipation. Only regret is that he didn't listen to the words of General Lee and Maj. General Patrick Cleburne and free slaves to allow fighting.

  • Sorry dumb fuck there were no free blacks by then. Davis had issued his order to "put them back on the slave status -- they and their issue - forever"

Blacks were enslaved to do all the work - as the white pussy soldiers deserted en masse -- the South tried to force slaves (not freedmen -- there werent any) to do the fighting too. It' didnt work, the war ended while pussy Lee and Davis ran.

  • Lee did it for the sake of his men?

What men? By the time pussy Lee surrendered, he had virtually NO men. One of the little things they forgot to tel you lunatics. Almost all of them had DESERTED.

Lee was running like hell himself -- he had just fled Richmond like a pussy.

Learn the real truth, not your myths.

  • Yea, for the sake of his men, he still had large amounts of men, the desertion rate was higher int he Union army than in the Confederate Army, and none of his soldiers wanted to surrender, it was met with an outcry from them. He didn't flee anywhere, Grant could continue to extend his lines due to the enormous amounts of Irishmen he could afford to send to slaughter.

I like how all you have is insults and curse words man. You need to transition from your fabricated "truth" into fact.

  • Enjoyed watching and listening! Well all except for when ~Sherman~ appeared!

  • Hey can i ask you a question ? I'm not coming from the United States, I'm from Canada. I have a course about the USA history and it was great. I just want know why General James Longstreet's was not really appreciate ? I thought it was a great General

  • That is a good question... I think the best answer is that he simply was not Stonewall Jackson nor Robert E. Lee. He was an excellent commander. Just overshadowed by martyrs

  • Longstreet actually was a very competent commander. It seems to me the main reason he wasn't appreciated stems from his sharp criticism of Robert E. Lee's conduct of the Gettysburg campaign--this made him some enemies during the war. After the war, he was seen as something of a traitor by the South because he became a Republican and a Catholic. Longstreet served as Minister to Turkey in the Grant administration.

  • I never said he was incompetent but mainly overshadowed due to the fact that he was not Lee or Jackson.

  • I understand where you're coming from--I never thought you implied Longstreet was incompetent. In view of the worship that has been bestowed on Lee and Jackson since the War, I fully agree that Longstreet has been overshadowed. The purpose of my post was to shed some light on the reasons why his fellow Southerners felt ill of him and downplayed his contributions.

  • Longstreet figured out Lee was an incompetent dingle berry and failed to advance the lunatic line honoring the slave raping Lee.

Longstreet also knew Lee was a suck up to Davis, that he grabbed all the credit for his general's achievments, and that left to his own "genius" he would screw up.

The South has spent 150 years trying to spin Lee and Davis into heroes, when the truth is, they were scum sucking pigs. Thank God they were both fuck ups.

  • were you born ignorant or did this just develop over time. Lee incompetent, since his tactics are still taught at West Point I am just going to disagree with you on that. The slave raping part is also interesting since he never owned slaves and fought for his state. Longstreet was incompetent when compared to Jackson.

So quit fowling up my post with your moronic statements.
