Yes, that comment is missing because I am the one who said it. I also said "He missed it!" because we could not believe the knife missed the heart muscle. This is not the original pilot episode they shot at Ben Taub, the pilot showed a lot more about what happened in the ER. There was a close up of the "pulsating knife" in the original. It would be nice to see the original. Can't believe it has been 20 years.

I worked there. He did not stab himself. The knife was moving with every heart contraction as the knife was lying beside his heart in the chest cavity. This incident was one that is still discussed at Ben Taub.

In 1990, they didn't give out this advice regarding children having to be in car seats in the back seat. It's only in the past 10-15 years that this has become standard common sense.

yeah. My mother held me in arms in a truck cab on the way home from the hospital in 1984. I would have been brought home in a safe car but it was a brand new chevy celebrity and so it had broken down on the way to the hospital because it sucked.

Well, it may not have been mandated by law, but it was common sense. I was born in 1974, and my sister in 1977, and we both had car seats. The only difference was they were in the front seat because that was before air bags and before the recommendation that kids be in the back. But even in the 1970s, many parents knew about and used car seats. By the late 1980s, she should've known better.

OK, actually it was the law in Texas at that time that the kid be in a car seat... and the dad was drinking and driving. So yes, she should've known better, not just about the car seat, but about getting in the car with someone who was drinking. And you'd think that knowing he was intoxicated would make her even more inclined to put the kid in a car seat. But it's the dad's fault too. He was drunk, he shouldn't have been driving.
