  • They sound good but they could break the record for inactivity!

  • ROCK ON DUDES! YOU SOUND GREAT!

  • I bought this single back in 1974 (a few years after it was first released) and still enjoy hearing it 38 years later! There are so many incredibly great Raspberries tunes. Great post!!!

  • I was at this show - House of Blues in LA, October 2005. It was one of the finest concerts I've ever seen. Never thought I'd actually see Eric and the guys reunite.

  • they are still good!

  • The Best Rock Tune Ever Played!

  • THE FANTASTIC RASPBERRIES from CLEVELAND, OHIO. FOUR OF THE GREATEST MUSICIANS and SONGWRITERS in MUSIC. ERIC CARMEN , WALLY BRYSON , DAVE SMALLEY , JIM BONFANTI . THE PRIDE OF POWER POP and CLEVELAND.

  • A great and under appreciated band...!!

  • WOW

  • fantastic!!!!!! that was perfection.. and brought back many memories.. and all of them good.. thank so much to who posted this.

  • you know whats good about being a old woman??? Eric looks better to me now then he did when i was 16!!!!!! i could watch this a million times and i think i will!!!

  • Paul Sidoti :)

  • OMG.....seriously....I never use that.... but REALLY......AWESOME.....the singer is hotter now than ever and sounds amazing......one of my favorite songs of all time!!!

  • Great job here, but do those background vocals sound a little canned to anyone else? Doesn't sound like some 60 years olds hitting that harmony. Maybe some help off camera....

  • Wunderful,wunderful,very,very nice!!

  • Awesome, just awesome!

  • Damn Eric Carmen still looks and sounds good after all these years.

  • Love this!!!!

  • Talent like Mr. Carmen doesn't come along every day. What a beautiful rock song! I'm a 52 y.o. drummer who grew up with this stuff. I also play all the heavier stuff like Hendrix, Trower, VH, etc. This song has such pure energy that it always makes me feel good. The breakdown on the 12-string @3:01 is pure class.

  • Does Wally Bryson live in washington state? I swear to God I saw a guy just last weekend driving a cherry lime green '70's muscle car (Charger?) chewing gum with long blondish hair, high forehead cruising around on a clear sunny Sunday afternoon where I live.

  • HELL's YES !!!!!

  • Fucking SICK!

  • Eric Carmen is a super talent. Wrote his own songs and also for Peter Cetera, Celine Dion, Shawn Cassidy ect, ect............. Lives off royalties and still writes music when he feels like it.

  • The Live on Sunset Strip CD really rocks! 30+ years later and its like they haven't skipped a beat, really...nobody could expect this, but The Raspberries have done it with the reunion shows. I love the increased fidelity of LOTSS because now it isn't quite as compressed and the bass is up in the mix where it should be (it was heavily damped on the original recording by Jimmy Iovine on the original for AM radio). Bryson is tremendous as he slays the guitar rips!

  • I'm a punk rock guy. If stuff like the Raspberries wasn't around we would never have had The Ramones, The Replacements, or much of what followed. The Raspberries are truly seminal!!!!! A+++

  • Eric Carmen is still hot.

  • Stiil sounds as good as when i first heard it on 93 KHJ......BOSS ANGELES!!!!

  • Now that's what I call talent!

  • Oh my God… I can't believe that they can still sound this good!

  • i had the 8 track of them great group that was many moons ago :) in my 50 s still listen to them ole rocker here thank you for posting

  • Eric Carmen looks hotter than ever. Just let me catch my breath here. Wow.

  • these guys sound amazing, the years have been kind to them.

  • Man - these guys were spot on!!! One hell of a live performance after all these years!! Eric Carmen hasn't missed a beat...

  • @jameschar24 I was thinking the same thing, sounds just like he did when the song was released in the 70s!

  • Overused cliche but....damn this band was underated!!!

  • Who the hell  downed THIS! They must be mentally RETARDED! They were TOTALLY ON! Eric still sounds and looks great {yes getting old SUCKS but it beats the alternative!}

  • one of my favorite songs of all time.

  • this group has aged gracefully....still sound as good as they did when they started....

  • DAMN I BELIEVE THESE ARE ALL THE ORIGINAL BAND MEMBERS !!! NO WONDER THEY SOUND SO FUCKING GOOD ! DAMN ERIC CAN STILL ROCK LIKE A MUTHA !!! LOVE IT !

  • AWESOME !!!!!!

  • still sound 's great !

  • Great live performance and the music will live on. Such a classic rock song with a romantic edge to it.

  • GO 'BERRIES...the fans still love you and you sound amazing; thanks for all the great music and memories..

  • Great job!!! Damn you guys STILL rock!!

  • Well done! A bit over modulated, but well done all the same. Must have been loud!!!

  • if you don't sing with this or at least start tapping your foot, there's something wrong with you, this has to be one of the coolest songs ever, EVER!

  • this is like the coolest guitar song ever written....yep...no doubt about it.

  • I'd have to agree with that statement being a guitar player myself for 45 years. It is one of the coolest cause of the power projection and complicated chord arrangement. What amazed me when hearing this song for the first time is that these young kids were composers like Lennon and Mccartney. It's one thing to be a great guitar player but it's quite another thing to fashion those chords and melody and harmonies to make it into something musically spectacular. That is nothing short of genus!

  • The Raspberries burned out from within, but were so good...great to see this video.

  • mino-monta!

  • Wow glad to see Eric and the band are still around. Now if it wasn't for you tube where would we all be for want of this nostalgia and a walk back down memory lane? Glad I was around then listening to the best stuff music had to offer.

  • Excellent song, these guys still rock.

  • The other guys sure old, but the lead singer looks almost better than when he was young. If only all men aged like that.

  • @TheCatJoker

google his mugshot. horrible plastic surgery.

  • @CrazyDaveZ "When 900 years you reach, look (and sound) as good you will not . . . hmmmmm!"

  • Eric was so amazing at mixing the 50s and 70s in this hard melodious rock sort of way. I have to overlook Hungry Eyes....it's an "I Just Called To Say I Love YOu kind of mar on his musical record personally. I could hardly listen Stevie Wonder when that song came out. :)

  • Why is everyone so hateful when it comes to music. Just listen to what you like. Every single comment on music videos is just hating on other people's music, what gives? By the way, they still sound awesome :)

  • @Rib5 They're just haters.

  • Great rock song from the early 70's!!! They can still play and sing it. Amazing!

  • Eric Carmen still looks good voice is still awesome !!!!!!!!

  • Impressive! Harmonies were always a big part of their sound, and they're still nailing 'em. Love this band.

  • House of Blues in Cleveland

  • Eric Carmen still has a great voice...he took care of himself

  • Eric Carmen and Lindsey Buckingham may be the most underrated US artists ever, both in song writing, vocals and guitar playing....

  • The accoustics are not as great as when I'd listen to this as a young teen while I read Lord of the Rings. The two are melded together.

  • You can keep all that hip hop and alt rock shit, I'll take the music from the 70s any day. They knew how to write songs back then.

  • @stratovani so very very true!

  • So Cool

  • Still great after all these years!...Brings back memories...Was just out of high school when this song came out. I love you all!!

  • All the way and back again, Eric. Your place or mine?????? Age has nothing to do with great music and a great performance ......

  • Wow! They still sound great!

  • When I first heard this song back in the 70's I thought they were a British band. Until this afternoon 30+ yrs later when I found out they're from Cleveland! Hail Cleveland! The Raspberries Rock!

  • This song is expertly written.

  • This video and this song are directly, exactly and precisely what's great about being alive, living in America and having an undying love for music!

  • @theepolishprince Living in America? I know people in Switzerland who think the same way and believe me, they are better off.

  • is that the original drummer...anyone know? they sound great and Eric looks awesome

  • @SimchatYerushalayim --yes all 4 original players

  • one for the old guys, love it!!!

  • Dave Smally is the only one of the group who is recognizable from almost 40 years ago

  • Hearing this for the first time at 10 yrs old when it first came out so long ago drew me into the sensuality of life. It still gives me goosebumps.

  • these old farts still sound great! :)

  • Saw him open for Hall and Oates in Sacramento about 74. I knew one or 2 of Eric's songs but he almost stole the show away from Hall and Oates. He was quite the rocker.

  • Oops, wrong video--I was watching the one downloaded by Ze18613--the one where Eric has some attempt at a mustache and beard...of sorts. He looked really much sexier with the scruffy look---uh....less like a girl maybe!!! Check that video out--it's really good.

  • Love it near the end when Wally Bryson blows a bubble with his gum...Eric's looking at him and laughs, as does drummer Jim Bonfanti. Wally...always chewing gum!

  • I had no idea Sam Kinison was in the Raspberries!

  • I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read your post. F__ing hilarious dude...

  • yes aged well

  • Show'em how's it done boys! GO ALL THE WAY!

  • I don't how much the video may be remixed, but the band is as tight as anyone could ask for all the way through the reunion DVD.

  • Ever notice that Eric Carmen looks a lot like Ryan O'Neal? Really. On a more serious note, I lost my virginity to this song with Debbie on the floor in front of her mother's stereo in South Texas while they were gone. I was 16, she was 15 and we were so in love. I'm 56 now and talked to her the other day for the first time in 35 years. Wow! The memories all came flooding back when I listened to this song.

  • Thanks! Love the song and the band!

  • Wow... he hasn't aged that much... looking good there and sounding better Eric!

  • this era inspired my first book

  • Sounds so good as the original version!!

  • If war weren't such a serious subject I'd say that I wish fellow veterans Dave Smalley and Chuck Norris could have made a movie together. Then again, that sounds like it could have been a pretty cool idea anyway...

  • yes he sure did wow

  • i,m here

  • SWOOOOOON!!!!, Siiiiiigh...........!

  • Q: What bassist served his country in Viet Nam as a helicopter gunner, survived his aircraft getting shot down and dodged the Viet Cong for three days in the jungle while awaiting rescue, all while carrying shrapnel wounds in his behind?

A: Dave Smalley, original Raspberries member who I understand was playing bass right here (the bass line was always great in this song, as was the chorus which he was also part of). Thank you for your service, sir!

  • God I love this band.....

  • Imagine 3 part harmony melodic music with an attitude. The generations after the 70's would only feel the aftershocks of this music.Groups like this and Badfinger, etc... This kind of music will never be again. The record companys dont have a clue why business isn't is good as it use to be.I think i know why :D Sometimes you need to leave something that works alone!!!! Great video!!!!!!

  • Wow..still great in 2005. Need an update, lol!! Great band, great songs. I'll always remember the raspberries!!!

  • 32 years later and still sounds great

  • 32 years and still sounds great

  • WOW!

  • Awesomely excellent live performance, considering it's friggin' 30-years later!

  • Timeless classic. many these days can't touch this...

  • One of the best opening riffs of all time. I LOVE THIS SONG!! although I won't fall in love again I will be saying this to the opposite sex the rest of my life! Surprised how many really say yes but then again I am handsome.

  • @hickoryou812 AND WHY NOT?!? Love may be right around the corner....just waiting!

  • I was there that night! Thanks so much for posting this, 70sClassicRock! Much appreciated. Cheers.

  • Thank you Raspberries for the 70s and today! Thank you!!

  • I love this song, always have and always will!

    Question.

Who is the musically inspiration for the Rasberries.?

Was "Boats against the currents a Eric solo song or Rasberries?

    Thanks

  • Great song and terrific live version. Do agree on the background singers. I can't see where the 'depth' of the chorus is coming from. Nobody but Carmen seems to visibly be really singing. Not taking away from the song, one of the best 'pop' tunes ever written.

  • Eric Carmen and the Raspberries haven't skipped a beat in 30+ years...THIS IS IMMORTAL ROCK & ROLL, GANG!

  • holy crap this is sooooooooooo awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Intro is so good. rest blows

  • Still absolutely awesome thirty years later! Like someone else said, Eric Carmen looks better now than he did then! Dude MUST have made a deal with the Devil or something to still look and sound this great! ;)

  • HELL, YEAH!

  • that guitar dude likes his gum LOL!! 3:04

  • The band and Eric Carmen still rock !

  • The band and Eric Carmin still rock !

  • The band is definitely playing their instruments and Eric is definitely singing the lead live (what an amazing singer). It is not easy to sing Eric Carmen tunes....you gots to have pipes to pull it off and a great ear! However, there is no way that those back up vocals aren't padded. In fact, you can see where the audible vocals are being held in spots and the singers are ending their notes way before the audio does. That makes me think that some of the music might be padded too.

  • @chungiemunchin like the moody blues and other bands that rely on a lot of background vocals, my guess is there were some singers.....ahem....in the background.....that were not visible for this video.

  • @chungiemunchin i don't thinks so about the vocals. you have to look hard but there are at least three other musicians onstage in the dark singing, and the lady with the tambourine is doing the really high parts

  • still sound awesome with no electronic BS to better the voice, are we listening Brittney Dumbass, and every other half assed singers who cant sing but are great at acting like a..holes.

  • Damn!!!!

  • Still one of the best written songs of rock! Fantastic background vocals!

  • what is Wally Bryson doing at 1:06 ?

  • This was my first love of my life Marrianne Pavlos and my song back in 8th grade. I always wondered what happen to her. I got hooked up with her brother through facebook. I learned that she died in a accident back in 1995. I am so sad to not have had the opportunity to say good bye, so here it is Marrianne they are playing our song!! RIP!!!

  • One of the best songs ever made, I was about five years old when it came out and I loved it then.

  • "Classic" is right! TY 70scr!

  • sound better than ever ...... way to keep the war babies happy, eric. CLEVELAND ROCKS!!!

  • That was fantastic!

  • Amazing - and sort of hilarious that a group of 60-year old men sound this good doing a song about adolescent love!

  • I had no idea they were still performing. I saw Eric Carmen in 1976 shortly after he left Raspberries. Great to see them again.

  • It ACTUALLY SOUNDS EVEN BETTER!!! So melodically romantic! But it's DEFINITELY Rock and Roll!!!

  • This is the entire original band performing live at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles in October 2005. This was recorded and released as a live album.

  • I can't believe how wonderful this still sounds after all these years!! Fantastic!!

  • I wish they were in the Hall Of Fame. Even Springsteen and Bon Jovi are fans......

  • @KrystalMarieAdam And they are even FROM CLEVELAND! I am a Steeler fan but gotta give it to Cleveland on this one!

  • this looks like the original band.Is this the original guitarist?Im positive about the other 3<

  • @mikey1829 Yes, the guy on the double neck is the original guitarist, Wally Bryson.

  • @kickpedal Thanks bro.I thought so.Guy was very underated. His fill ins were always excellent

  • These guys haven't lost a thing. Great performance here and looking good!

  • carmen sure aged well, in both body and voice

  • @brabon1 LOL...I was thinking the same thing. He always seemed to be a poser, one of those guys who just refuses to give in to Father time. Good for him, fuck Father Time. Guy is a hell of a musician though.

  • @Waszma i was upset when he dropped power pop for straight pop, but guy had to eat...and ya, he is a hell of a musician...classically trained

dont know about the poseur thing...most guys in power pop/glam pranced around like him

  • @brabon1 Oh yeah man...I agree 100%. If it was ok for Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, why not these guys. Marc Bolan etc., actually when I say posing (and i know you can appreciate this) I don't say it as a put down, it was definitely part of the show, and the show was better then than it's ever been since. Carmen was/is?, a great musician, no question. I hear Todd Rungren ripped him off...ever hear about that?

  • @Waszma never heard about the rungren thing...only thing that i know about rungren was that he used a glam persona to get his straight pop tunes heard

doesnt matter...this is music...music that will last forever....music that when heard, brings back memories of a simpler time

  • @brabon1 It sure does man....a simpler and much happier time, a time before the super elite bought and paid for the government and turned the U.S. into a second rate country. Before we gave tax deductions to companies for moving expenses when they relocated their operations overseas. Before corporations cut wages to the bone and outsourced every frigging thing possible. Before they offshored as much profit as possible so that we would take in less revenue and build up a mountainous debt. ; )

  • @Waszma Dude, the 1970s were not a freaking simpler nor happier time. The imes were far more perilous. Imagine getting a mortgage for 13% and tinking you got a got deal. Business were sutting down left and right. The elite as you refer were far stronger than today because the numbers of rich has skyrocketed in the mean time.

  • @Robbob9933 I hope you're kidding, seriously. I was there, and I am now here. Here's a simple one for you. Minimum wage was $1.85 an hour, gas was $0.29 a gallon. 1 hour worked = 6 gallons of gas. At the present $3.75 minimum wage gets you 2 gallons. Interest rates on Real Estate? It's all DTI (debt to income). If your mortgage payment = 33% of your gross monthly income, you can afford it. Prices so high now that you can't sell props with 4% fixed rates. So...looks like rates matter not. Reply?

  • @Waszma Go to 70sflashback for a snapshot of the economy then, you are suffering from nostalgia. The good ole days never existed.

  • @brabon1

    We all did!

  • Incredible ! They still sound great after over 30 years.

  • The old guys can still fly !

  • Fucking love this song......they still sound AWESOME!!!!

  • @provoira You fucking rock for thinking that my friend!

  • Great song, brings me back to the 70's.....

  • Eric Carmen has a voice that transcends all genres of rock. I have loved this song since it first came out in 1974 and love it as much today. I have worn out numerous tapes and CD's listening to Eric and the Raspberries.

  • sounds great! wow!

  • They sound just as good here as they did back in the beginning. What an underrated group of musicians. Very complex chords and vocal melodies too. I love the Raspberries!

  • Definitely one of my all time favorite songs ever! I was just a tween when this song was playing on the radio. I didn't really know what it meant at the time, but I could not hear it enough! Thank you Raspberries for still kicking it. You still sound and look great!

  • Thank you for good time!

  • This song just rocks. Could someone post a guitar lesson for this song, please?

  • totally honest. respect.

  • Excellent!

  • This Guys Rock!!!!

  • For this mp3 goto dopemp3s doht cohm.

  • In 1972 my high school class traveled from Traverse City, Michigan to visit the museum's in Chicago's Loop and while there many of us went and saw The Raspberries at The Auditorium open for Blue Oyster Cult. At the time I was so in love with a girl from Maryland who had a summer home in Traverse City and this song was seared to my psyche with her in mind. Two years later I hitchhiked to Maryland to surprise this girl whose father promptly escorted me back to the nearest turnpike. :(
