its was very very high..... the range they could reach then was incredible and now singers only really go for one spot..... now all u have to do is rhyme and ur a genius.... sometimes good but this was much better then mi=ost anything now days
@eshejh What a great song! A reminder of a period when life was so much better in so many ways, before Vietnam, a tsunami of hard drugs and the pursuit of false happiness built on borrowed money.

G-d help the young people in high school and college. We turned our beautiful country into a third world shithouse in barely two generations.
@eshejh Many nights hitching a ride to Slickville the Appella Street Corner group would entertain us. What a great life, growing up in Western Pa. Porky, Skyliners and of course the Slickville Appella Street Corner Group.
One of the most sincere songs of ALL time, you can almost hear his heart break. Never forget the roots of Rock n Roll, know matter how tender they began..
This is very good, if I had not JESUS CHRIST in my focus, and as the song says, it reminds me that I Definetly would not have anything, would not even have LOVE without The True saving JESUS this is my hearts desire. To always have JESUS and NEVER Be without you, JESUS.

Again, to be the lead singer of
a group in this era, you had to be pretty
damn good, because the standard was
very high.

"Who would have thought this song that only made it to no.12 in '59 would make everybody forget the other 12 a half century later...."
It's a good point, however the other 12 are well remembered:
Mack The Knife, Venus, Stagger Less, Sleep Walk, were in the top 12 of 1959 and are well remembered.
But your point is well taken. This was an outstanding song.
