Give me a break, the interest rate on every credit card I have has been raised in the last 2 years between 27-30%. That used to be called usury. My credit card company raised my rate from 10.99% to 29.99% going forward that started February 1st right before this bill went into affect because Obama didn't stop them! I just cancelled it screw them! Even my Amex went for 6.9 to 9.9 before the hike they all want their money! Just like we were not given fair warning the CC companies should have been blindsided with this so they didn't have time to rape consumers

I don't use the cc that raised the rate anyway, I was just shocked they did it. I have excellent credit and those of us who pay our bills are being punished for it. Like I said Amex raised their rates by 3% prior to this, the catch is they just have to do it to everyone and not pick and choose. There are loopholes I tell you. It's a start..
but it's not the fix. The mere fact that the banks have to regulate this themselves is scary. Just think of some poor schelp who is already paying 30% on his card and then they hit him with fees and he doesn't know enough, who's going to stick up for him? The bank? I doubt they're going to call him and say "hey we overcharged you" You can't put the rat in charge of the cheese it won't work. If you have good credit then you'll be back here complaining soon enough believe me.
That's entirely fair. A change that would amount to a full "fix" of this would be radical and would have difficulty passing congress at this time, so for the time being we'll have to take smaller steps. If America ever becomes a lot more liberal (and lobbyists become less of an issue), maybe we'll see more sweeping, productive change of the sort we might like.
I know this is a step in the right direction for those people who cannot pay their bills or pay them on time...however, in the process it screwed those of us over who can. Why did I deserve a huge increase on a credit card that paid ME every month for paying it on time?
I closed the account due to this and it will now effect my credit score and a whole lot more people are going to do the same. Amex raising my rate by 3% across the board for all their customers to make up for this bill is unfair also. What I'm saying is they should have stated they cannot raise our rates NOW not going forward it gave them cart blanche to kills the consumer who already had a previous balance.
Here in MA those of us who use to drive safely and had the lowest driving score you can get (which is the best) had to pay astronomical rates to make up for people who were bad drivers (texting, drinking, etc. just plain not paying attention) but finally after years of lobbying we had it changed. This reminds me of it. Like I said, if you had good credit this will affect you poorly and you would not be so thrilled with the way it was handled.

People who are completely ignorant to these laws are going to be raked over the coals with fees because they don't know enough and since these morons are putting the rats in charge of the cheese the banks and credit card companies are still making out like the villains they are! It's NOT good for the people, not those of us who actually pay our bills that is! My credit card company raised my rate from 10.99% to 29.99% going forward that started February 1st right before this bill went into affect because Obama didn't stop them! I just cancelled it screw them! Even my Amex went for 6.9 to 9.9 before the hike they all want their money! Just like we were not given fair warning the CC companies should have been blindsided with this so they didn't have time to rape consumers

it really doesn't you need to read the fine print....I mean it does get them a bit, but it doesn't stop what they could do before this went into effect. I don't use the cc that raised the rate anyway, I was just shocked they did it. I have excellent credit and those of us who pay our bills are being punished for it. Like I said Amex raised their rates by 3% prior to this, the catch is they just have to do it to everyone and not pick and choose. There are loopholes I tell you. It's a start..

but it's not the fix. The mere fact that the banks have to regulate this themselves is scary. Just think of some poor schelp who is already paying 30% on his card and then they hit him with fees and he doesn't know enough, who's going to stick up for him? The bank? I doubt they're going to call him and say "hey we overcharged you" You can't put the rat in charge of the cheese it won't work. If you have good credit then you'll be back here complaining soon enough believe me.

That's entirely fair. A change that would amount to a full "fix" of this would be radical and would have difficulty passing congress at this time, so for the time being we'll have to take smaller steps. If America ever becomes a lot more liberal (and lobbyists become less of an issue), maybe we'll see more sweeping, productive change of the sort we might like.

I know this is a step in the right direction for those people who cannot pay their bills or pay them on time...however, in the process it screwed those of us over who can. Why did I deserve a huge increase on a credit card that paid ME every month for paying it on time?

I closed the account due to this and it will now effect my credit score and a whole lot more people are going to do the same. Amex raising my rate by 3% across the board for all their customers to make up for this bill is unfair also. What I'm saying is they should have stated they cannot raise our rates NOW not going forward it gave them cart blanche to kills the consumer who already had a previous balance.

Here in MA those of us who use to drive safely and had the lowest driving score you can get (which is the best) had to pay astronomical rates to make up for people who were bad drivers (texting, drinking, etc. just plain not paying attention) but finally after years of lobbying we had it changed. This reminds me of it. Like I said, if you had good credit this will affect you poorly and you would not be so thrilled with the way it was handled.

because of the loopholes, they just have to do it to everyone and they won't get penalized for it. My credit card went up double the finance charges and they pay ME each month for paying on time..so I just cancelled it, say no thank you...Amex raised everyone by 3% that's all they have to do is raise everyone and they're all good. They'll lose a lot of customers but they're still making billions so who cares. This is a scary bill and it won't work, we'll get raped for paying our bills on time!
