  • why cant he buy a new shirt?

  • @1:13 sounds like Mastodon, lol

  • apathy is his middle name

  • basicly

    the same note idea

    e----

    b----

    g----

    d---

    a --0

    e -5

there the same note but an octave higher

  • @ConorsMetalMilitia1 The fifth fret of the E and the open A are the same note in the same octave........the 7th fret of the D, the 12th fret of the A, the 2nd fret of the g, and the 17th fret of the E are all one octave up from the two notes you showed.

  • fuckin amazing

  • I've no doubt he knows how to play guitar BUT he's a crap teacher -__-

  • CLIFFS OVER DOVER!!!

  • so if i bought a guitar and had no practice at all with any istrument, would i be able to creat my own songs or what that be to difficult? cuz i wonna get a guitar and just mess around and make my own solos and shit.

  • @RetardedxVideo took me a few months of heavy playing before i ended up writing music, and i already used to play instruments like violin lmao u gotta give it time and a lot of practice

  • @RetardedxVideo Get a guitar and learn. It couldn't hurt. The more you learn the easier it is to write songs and solos and "shit." It's fun to mess around with too.

  • @blacksunprison13 i plan on it, but im learning Bass first, so in time.

  • One Hundred And Thirty Eight Six Hundred And Thirty Two video's...

  • 1:05 oh yeah, that was cool!

  • The only guy from expert village that actually knows what he's talking about :D

  • Well that would depend all on your amp. I have a Line 6 Spider IV HD 150....it would require a diffrent setup as compared to say a real amp like a Mesa Boogie Dual Rec.

  • guys i have a shity practice anp could someone give me a setup so it sounds metal

  • ROFL!!! 0:40 - 0:49

  • Nice man. Good job.

  • I thought these guys would be better at teaching you how to play guitar over how to grow a bean plant. The only difference is that my guitar isn't wilting.

  • wait i thought octaves sere also chords such as 12 on the G string and 10 on the A? i confuzled o.o

  • @TheRockClassicfan That is correct, and that goes for all strings except for High B, which is tuned at a different interval.

  • @FourthHorseman666 ok thanks good to know im not going crazy XD

  • hey i know u might be on a tight schudule but i wish u could make longer videos u rock dude answer back please

  • calm urself mate keep in g minor, Coerr ur like my mum and a bottle of wine, stay on coke mum, Mum stay on the coke, oh shit shes drink wine..........

  • sounds like lemme hear you scream solo

  • It's funny some of those weren't the same note because he bent them :D

  • it's like steven vai's technique in soloing :P

  • I love how so many of you kids name-drop songs from Guitar Hero in the comments for these vids.

  • These-are-all-the-same-notes-in-different-octaves <3

  • Ok, im not going to say im a huge fan but you need to realize "heavy metal" isn't going to teach you some insane Necrophagist riffage. This guy isn't going to play chunky gallopy string skipping Squealy riffs. Hes going to play chord based slower older style more mainstream music. You cant hate for him not playing or showing something that the video doesn't say he will show you. Heavy metal is Alice Cooper or Kiss, even Zep and Hendrix, although many genres are "sub" to Metal and Heavy metal.

  • nicely played, one part had me thinking you were playing cliffs of dover

  • mastadon riff

  • captain obvious strikes again !

  • Octaves are the same note... (long dramatic pause)... in different octaves. LMFAO! How explanatory.

  • @blacksunprison13

Yeah, basically what he should've said was "Octaves are the same note in different pitches."

Jesus Christ though, it claims he went to college for music, but the way he defined octaves was just awful.

  • @octaviocgsa

dont really need berklee to understand the stuff this guy is teaching. ive never taken any music theory classes or anything and apparently knew what he learned at berklee

  • hey gary where did you study? just curious btw no hater crap ur great

  • ahaha i love how people are criticizing someone that attended berklee ... ok ok, youre all guitar masters ...

  • An octave is an interval of 8 notes, in which the pitch of a note is 8 notes higher, yet still the same note.

    Learn your shit you dumbass.

  • @grassvalleystudios Actually, an octave is 12 semitones or 6 whole tones... a minor sixth would be 8 semitones.

    Learn your shit? ;)

  • So, would this be used to solo in B? I mean since it's the first note or root? I'm not at all a theory person, but I love your videos..

    Tim

  • Octaves are the same note...in different octaves XD

    Great lesson ;)

  • who plays heavy metal in standard anymore? my electric guitars have never seen standard tuning...

  • @rjc18040 O.o i play heavy metal in C# standard....

  • @majinbuu29. yea, I usually play drop d but I have been known to drop that half step to Db...(C#). its just strange seeing a standard tuning. When I think standard tuning in Metal, all I can think of is Ozzy

  • @rjc18040 Thats understandable, But then again its just the bands right? the bands i listen to all tend to play in some form of standard tuning, hence why i am in standard and play it like so. lol.

  • @rjc18040 or every other thrash metal type band.. :P

  • @rjc18040 Megadeth play in E-standard

  • ur the teacher i need man,,,,keep it up man......

  • wtf... octaves are the same note in different octaves.

I know wtf is an octave, but why can't this guy just say something like,"octaves are similar notes that are played in different pitches?"

  • @b44styreraug

It isn't similar you fucking idiot it's twice the wave length. Ignorant bastard. Complaining only strongly reveals your lack of an ability to not come across as retarded Cane Toad.

  • @figaz555

Then how similar are E 3rd octave and E 4th octave? They are still the same note at a different pitch right?!

  • @b44styreraug

Yeah but twice the wave length. Or twice the Hz.

  • @figaz555

Of course then... These are just basic physics.

  • this guy is a doucher

  • what a stupid video!

  • I never hear this stuff in metal.

  • @imadey0utube its in there, just not like this

  • @MrBoffom Examples plz?? :D

  • @imadey0utube its not letting me copy links here, but look up a band called After The Burial and click on Aspirations

  • wow this guy is really good

  • @narto1223344 you are kidding right?

  • @TheWhocares233 hell no he is a horrible teacher and player

"an octave is a note but an octave higher."?

  • @narto1223344 good i agree

  • I-Hate-Ex-pert-Vill-age! :D

  • Good job! on covering the guitar strings... it's so stupid!. relocate the CC, pls.

  • whats with the fucking useless caption? Get that shit out the way I hate it.

  • @Charlymaumushi its not even in time with what hes saying

  • @Metalhead001122 ok I will "shot up" Because I don't know anything about music. But I'm sure you have a lot a friends in FagBook.com and like to troll them, too. Fuck of faggot.

  • @Charlymaumushi you sent that to the wrong person you were supposed to send it too MegaStringbender

  • @Charlymaumushi shot up...you dont know anything about music...

  • he knows nothing of metal, and really, a strat? LMFAO!!!

  • @deadlydare strat's are the best guitar that you could possibly buy they can play any type of music comfortably

  • @Metalhead001122 no they're not

  • Woo Chipcore (Chiptune is videogame music)

  • this dude is so funny

  • dude the sound of that guitar is fucking killer

  • ur a dumbass this is also self explanitory

  • this man is obviously not a metal guitarist but he is very good listen to his bends they are dead on most of the time.

  • Your retarded. -_-

  • this guy doesn't know dick about metal.

  • 1:22 1:27 is defenitely vai :D

  • Is it just me or does this not sound like heavy metal guitar?

  • Just you

  • Shit I already knew. Harmonies and Tonics and shit.

  • My Track has the coolest usage of 24- Octaver, ever. Electically Engineered Soldier, I can finally Finish that shit - Got my Gear hooked up ready to record.

  • i like how blunt and straight foward he is.

  • LOL nice sining

  • When he was 'singing' about the octaves, I chuckled... wow.. I'm lame ;]

  • His fuckin effects pedal makes him sound sooooo much cleaner than it actually is. A lot of forgiveness with that effect. Im not sayin he isnt playin it correctly but it jus sounds like hes doin so much more due to the effect in use is all.

  • This guy is good!

  • i play in octaves alot ,you can also skip around on the neck if you know where they are.

  • how do you know where the octaves are? do you just have to know the notes, or is there some kind of trick?

  • @JugganautJimmaJam94

    yes there is

i can make a vid for that if you want

  • well on the low E and A strings, if you skip a string and move up 2 frets, it is an octave.

for example, 7th fret on the low A string. an octave up would be 9th fret on the D string.

  • octaves are the same notes played eight full notes below.

You can hear that and it´s quite easy to figure out where they are

  • saying 8 'full' notes might confuse people.

  • Really? Why?

Here in Germany everone says it like that.

I translated it literally from german to english.

  • It might be a problem of semantics but when I hear 'full note' I think of a whole tone as opposed to a semitone.

  • Oh, i think you´re right

    sorry

  • No problem bro.

  • play a power chord and cut the note in the middle out, theres an octive

  • lml

  • Great Lesson!

  • HAHAHA.... shart..!! like the lesson bro!!

  • did he say Gary Shart lol

  • Really cool sounds there at 1:22!!!

I think they're good lessons for instrucing people what things are and basically how to do them.

It's up to them to futher research on it!!!!

    Matt.

  • your no joe satriani but i think your really good at what you do to teach that of the top of your head and talk at the same time whilst playing the octaves is really hard but EPIC! so i give 5 stars and i also say whoever criticizes you should be banned :D

  • @lookhesgonnarawr Does everyone have to be a joe satriani? I dont really care hwo joe is, and you're no joe satriani either, cause there is obviosuly only one

  • way to be wikipedia warrior... so wise in your internetdom...

  • looked at profile... saw nothing... opinion remains... you're a douche

  • dude, shut the fuck up

  • you are an imbecile with nothing better to do in his holidays than tell people to shut up and insult them 2 months later when they even forgot their post. I get it, thank you and warm regards.

  • have a happy holiday man :D

  • @einarabelc5 lol nerdy idiot

  • give him a break man. it's hard to describe something you know about but have never really described before.

  • Octaves are the same as octave chords right?

  • octaves are just 12 notes higher or loew that your root note. Ex. - 6th string 1st fret the octave note would be 6th string 12th fret or you can run 12 notes down the differant strings .:D but yeah same concept

  • 1st fret - 13th freet that would be an octave.. right?

  • the octave note for the 1st fret would be 12. If you are in standard tuning and you pick the note on the 6th string 1st fret, then the 12th fret same string its the same note. youll hear it . I will sound the same

  • No, the 13th fret is an octave higher than the 1st fret.

  • yup

    Open E

    = E on 12th fret

and yeah, you're basically right i just wanna sound smart xD

  • haha the bit at the very end

  • use a tuner or play your guitar more.

  • soo funny how he explains a lesson:octaves are...pentatonic is....alsways that pauze ! but great lessons,i learned my sweeps via here ! ;)

  • just listen to them! -_-"

  • I haz a question... With the last riff... Y wouldn't u just hold the chord up closer 2 the head then use ur right hand 2 tap out the notes in the higher octave... That way, u can pull off on2 the lower octave note. Surely that's 100 times easier 2 play, gives u more control in terms of allowing it 2 ring if u want, and means that the speed can be built despite changes 2 the note order as it just means using different strings, rather than making ur fingering much more complicated...

  • because this video is about octaves and not tapping.

  • sure, but that's not only easier to play, but it shows the usage of octaves off a lot clearer, because it still maintains the 12 fret gap that is the clearest and most obvious octave jump.

  • Your ears will get used to it... or if you can add 12 to the fret you're doing and maybe shift it up a string then you'll know your octaves!

  • As a guitarist, I'm kinda weirded out that I seem to be the only person I know that doesn't stare directly in a person's eyes while I play guitar. It just seems creepy. I look down at my guitar, because that's where the viewer's attention should be.

  • I do the same thing. I look at the neck, or i'm staring off at the wall or w/e

  • "these. are. all. the. same. note. *begins to sing* in. diff'rent. oc. taves." lol.

  • 1:22 it sounds like under a glass moon solo by dream theater!:O

  • im kinda guitar noob.. but what u use for making the guitar sound like that?

  • It sounds cool, and if a band has two guitarists, they could be playing the same solo in different octaves, its kind of how twin solo's are made.

  • Kinda called "Harmony's"

  • Yeah that's what it is. Sorry the word escaped me for a moment lol

  • lol no problems been a musician for 5 years of classical piano and 1 year of guitar since christmas of 07

  • Well aren't you special?

  • stfu noob let him say what he wants who put you in charge of telling someone that they are retarded because they have been playing for 6 years

  • i just don't like people bragging about stuff and i never said he was retarded

    calling me a noob. haha

  • special also means retarded fucktard

  • That's not how I meant it fucktard

  • its on the rhythm pickup bud. only sounds good for leads ie higher notes especially sweep picking

  • Get a distorrtion pedal? for exaple Boss DS-1. That's what makes the guitar sound so "crunchy" if thats what your looking for.

  • i have that pedal and its good. another good one to have is the mt-2. and you can pick up either one up pretty cheap.

  • how cheap?

  • cool!

  • Comment removed

  • It's 2 frets up, not 4.

  • IS AN OCTAVE ONLY AT THE 12th? message or rrply plzzz

  • if your playing a string, the octave of that string is on the 12

  • unless you have a 24 fret, or a pitch shifter...

  • If you have a 24 fret it is also at the...well 24

and with a pitch shifter you can do whatever you want

And like he showed here, they are all over the neck, IE fifth fret E string and open A string are both A

  • ya ya im just saying

not to worry about where the octave falls on the A, D,G, and so on strings

  • is an octave just 12 frets up?

also i have a sunburst srat with chrome/silver hardware will it look cool with gold hardware?

  • Yes, 12 semi-tones (or frets) up. It's double the frequency of the original note.

  • thanks for your lesson, i can do that now

  • These-are-all-the-same-noteee

    In-Diff-rent-oc-tavess

  • that is an idea!

  • :o he broke a rule! you can't define a word using the same word! -gasp-

  • total cliffs of dover feel

  • 1:22 sounds like black sheep by sonata arctica

  • it does lol

  • lol its like super high techno guitar or something like that! :P xD lol

  • what a bout stenor electric gitar are they any good

  • Don't Strats have 21 frets? That one has 22.

  • mexican strats have 21, americans have 22

  • And my Strat has 23. :)
