The latest news on Apple they have purchase more adjoining land and the new solar farm is rumored to be merely 5 acres dedicated to solar and the rest is rumored to be a training center integral to their I-cloud strategy. The location may eventually be much more than anyone ever imagined.

Why would someone get such a fkt up idea to remove the old plug-n-play mp3's, and Androids, so much cheaper with android, almost half the android-market is free to download to your cellphone while you have to pay for both an iPhone AND the damn apps. WTF !!?!

And what about Mac's.. Can you even upgrade a Mac computer with a new motherboard (remember that half-globe -looking iMac) ? How the hell do the apple-heads think? >,<

@PunkBuzter Even if Apple products are expensive, it's WORTH IT and come on, it's powerful. The iPod, iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBook Pros, etc. They're all great products and not boring. You can do a lot with this products.

NOT ALL APPS HAVE A PRICE! A LOT OF THEM ARE FREE! And take note, FREE APPS EARN MORE MONEY THAN PAID APPS! So a lot of developers still want to upload their apps as FREE and NOT PAID.

Apple has practically abandoned OS X as a server, which is a shame I think there is some promise in it for specific applications but I think for them to be successful with it they would have to at least allow the specific things they do with it to run on linux or freebsd or allow some variant of OSX on commodity hardware.

@mrstevesigmon its 'exciting' because this data house is 'as big as they come' equivalent to Google's data houses, it may mean, that Apple (as secretive as they are) is going to create something spectacular for the computing industry, or just a over blown upgrade for its services at this moment.

Some speculate free MobileMe for all iPhone users, (i doubt), most think its for iTunes, App Store, iBook Store, etc.

@egn93 It may be very exciting but that is not what I was getting at. This is more directed at the Gov. but Apple was given huge tax breaks and incentives to come here to create jobs. 50 jobs. Most I bet will not come the local area. I have read articles and blogs claiming that they will be the savuor of this area, I just don't see it.Apple makes very nice products but something larger and less techy would have more suited to our situation.Hope I'm wrong!

There isn't a rule that says they have to help revitalize that town to it's former glory days. Free market economy man. Like you said though, something larger and less techy. Lets hope for the best for that town.

They have been very secretive about everything and security is outrageous at this point. This is not a billion dollar building its a billion dollar project that is not close to being done.

What makes this location Nice to Apple is how They can Tie the entire Data center to Super Nap not to far away in Charlotte. The closest your data center is to one of these Super NAPs or Network access point, the better, But theres nothing special about this land.

Relatively cheap electricity.

Ample available workers.

When Google was planning new data centers a couple of years ago the cheap power in the Carolina's was cited as a key factor in the search.
