emphasis on grappling? Where? This whole video shows nothing but typical Street Fighter gameplay. The other Slam Masters games actually did emphasize grappling, but Slam Masters II unfortunately is Street Fighter posing as a "wrestling" game. You can't even move around the entire ring anymore, only left and right. Good way to kill a decent franchise, nice going Capcom, now go kill Street Fighter already. Seems to me all the characters in those games should be dying of old age about now.
Loved this game! Especially Scorpion! Capcom should definitely remake this title! With Zangief, Alex, Hugo, El Fuerte, E. Honda and R. Mika as playable characters. This'll give SmackDown vs Raw some decent competition!
Totally agreed. MUGEN is bad because Linux version was discontinued and its creators disappeared when they so-called top secret windows mugen beta was leaked. therefore, we all have to handle a broken, unfinished engine.
Fighter maker from enterbrain is thousand times better and more complete.
It may not be a street fighter clone, but it certainly ruined slam masters by turning into another fighting game. Not a great one at that. You don't even "pin" any more, you just win by knock out. I see far less actual grappling and many more strikes. it's good to see the characters come back, but not in this watered down fighting engine.
I hate this game. I loathe it. When I found out about the existence of this game around 2002-2003, you don't know how hyped I was after playing the original Slammasters. I was expecting an awesome sequel with even more wrestlers & wrestling moves, and I after I saw how they turned this into an SF2 type game, I was enraged & throwing more f-bombs than the AVGN. I never cared for SF2 (I'm a fan of beat em ups, not fighting games) & couldn't believe what they did to the best wrestling game's sequel
@wtcvidman I feel your pain, wtcvidman. I was the same way too when I first played this. I mean, in 1994, the videogame market was so damn flooded with fighting games. There was Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Darkstalkers, X-Men: Children of the Atom, King of Fighters '94, Killer Instinct, just to name a few. All Slam Masters 2 needed was to just play like Slam Masters 1, as well as still have the new characters and backgrounds.
Yeah, the overemphasis on the fighting game genre is the only thing I disliked that Capcom did. It killed the Slammasters franchise (no wonder it wasn't ported to the SNES), which could've & should've been still going strong today since it's my favorite wrestling game next to the Fire Pro games. I loved that tag team mode in the SNES version. Too bad the barbed wire match mode in the Genesis version is a 2 player only mode.
i was so disappointed when i played the sequel the first time. Slam Masters was one of my favorite arcade wrestling games ever (only one i loved more was Wrestlefest), and the sequel was just a lame Street Fighter 2 wannabe.

Seriously people this games is far from being just a Street Fighter clone, it still has a lot of the emphasis on the grappling.
It's a different type of game to Slammasters which was perfect & didn't really need any more tweaking anyway .
Character design in this game was done by Tetsuo Hara who some will know as illustrator of the Hokuto no ken series.
And seriously dude Mugen?
Grow some balls & learn to play proper fighting games that don't have 50hit combos at the touch of a button..

lol Mugen. more like use a fighting game engine that is complete and not half-baked.
aj0049 3 years ago 3
half baked and with character developers who whine and cry if the characters are anywhere else than their websites.
An abandonware with attention whores complaining about their "creations".

i wish someone else would just hurry up and make a 2D engine to replace that buggy crashy POS

Only in Saturday Night Slammasters would chucking grenades at your opponent be considered a legal wrestling move.
