@ChristellaKury this is not a long bow! I have been shooting longbows since i could stand up (they were weak bows so that i could acctually pull them) i think i could recognise a longbow. Pluss it is extremly unlikely that you would even be able to pull a long bow rescued from the mary rose because back in those days the longbows were reaching on average 150lb! Get your facts sorted and dont make stuff up because most people that would have watched this video are likely to be archers just like
@ChristellaKury whatever- I shot this video in a bombroom with my friend using an HG2000 at CAPE which is a testing facility in Westfield, IN. Frames per second was 2000 at 50 microseconds. Camera resolution was 56X512. What I'm telling you is this is not your video. You did not shoot this video. I shoot this five years ago with my buddy. I really do not care. I just think it is funny that my video is out there like this.
@spuduh717 I shot this video in my bathroom with an HP2000. Frames per second was 2004 at 50 nanoseconds. Camera resolution was 54X511. Bow was an old English longbow rescued from the Mary Rose in 1982 (I know it looks more modern but that’s an illusion caused by the slow mo.)
I want to know why my video is here. I shot this with a friend 5 years ago. Where did you get it and take it down now...or you can pay for the rights to use it . Past and present. I'm sure we can work something up for you. 146,006 views that could be expensive...
1. Your reading my comment 2. Now your saying/thinking thats a stupid fact. 4. You didnt notice that i skipped 3. 5. Your checking it now. 6. Your smiling. 7. Your still reading my comment. 8. You know all you have read is true. 10. You didnt notice that i skipped 9. 11. Your checking it now. 12. You didnt notice there are only 10 facts Copy and paste to 1 video, tomorrow will be your best day ever! no matter wha
I shoot both English Longbow and Bowtech compound and they are totally different, the Longbow is shot in a single movement from draw to release and the compound you can hold for the best shot. A good archer will use the bow they feel best with and not dismiss the other types.
It's a NAP QuickTune 2000 dropaway. I have set a few up on bows and currently have one on my hunting and 3D target setup. Get rid of the steel cable and replace it with release rope...then tie it into the buss cable. Being attached to the cable slide causes the bounce up most times.
They are inexpensive these days, though. About $30 is all. Functional, but need set up properly. Like most things, right?
I am about to get a compiund and you can totally shoot without the sight if you felt like it and just because its a different type of bow doesnt mean that is is easier. They look cooler and are more powerful but you could still shoot no sight. And whos to say you cant have two bows and do both.
hey ello547 ur right im 14 and havent used my old compound in a while and now i use it more and the sights r to small so i took them off and i shoot almost better than with them
No matter what you all say, a recurve or longbow is harder to learn than a compound. My longbow doesn't even have a shelf on it. Compounds are neat, they are more deadly accurate, but it is too much like shooting a gun with the sites and all.
Agreed. Guys claim they hunt with a bow for the "added challenge," yet they rig it with every mechanical aid known to man in order to make it as easy as possible.
For example, if billy-joe can't aim, he just buys a sight. If he's got a bad release he just buys a release aid that releases FOR you at the touch of a trigger!
If a guy has trouble holdin a 60# longbow at full draw, he just gets a 60# compound so he gets to hold the weight of a child's bow at full draw instead!
Not easier to shoot...just easier to hold at full draw for a longer period of time. In fact, they are usually harder to draw than a recurve because they are typically of a higher draw weight and the weight stacks up sooner. Archery is archery if the bow has cams or not. That bow was a Hoyt UltraTec...one of the best all around bows ever made by anyone. No doubt a tack driving machine. He just needed to increase spring tension in the rest or have it riser later thus dropping sooner.
They're easier to aim because you're pulling less weight, so you don't tremble as much (and, as a side effect, your arm doesn't move as much when releasing, thus you're more accurate). You still need to be able to shoot (fairly) accurately in the first place, of course ;)
But if you shoot a compound with too much letoff the bow becomes too easy to torque. This does effect accuracy a whole lot. I prefer around 20# of holding weignt myself on my target bows. But many hunting bows won't give you that much, so you have to be pulling into the "wall" to steady your aim. Letoff in and of itself really doesn't help a lot while aiming, but is a big help when holding longer while hunting. Recurves aim steadier aside from the shaking shoulders. LMAO! I love flinging arrows!
Try takin the sights off your bow and shoot with your fingers. Its harder isn't it? Don't kid yourself. Thats just a TASTE of what traditional is like.
I hunt with both, and hunting with a longbow is MUCH more challenging. Don't call people stupid or retarded just because they're up for the challenge and you are not. You're just demonstrating your insecurity.
i shoot a compound with a sight, but i shoot fingers, its an art dude, his bassically shit all the way cuz he uses a fucking release aid, if u cant shoot fingers, dont shoot at all
I totally respect that. Like I said, I shoot a barebow compound myself just as often as the longbow. I blew up a bit in those last comments only because some redneck bow-bigots were calling trad guys stupid.
I have never shot a traditional bow would love to but never have but i shoot a 70 pound bear lights out if you use your fingers even with a glove it will probally tear the skin off when you release there made to be shot with releases to be accurate as possible
modern old-school longbows often amount to 100lbs with nothing more than a leather tab between the fingers and the string. tudor english longbows were 140lbs or more.
ile tell you like it is i have shot a crossbow before and it was around 150 and it took 2 hands to pull you show me any type of bow except crossbow that has more than a hundred pounds and ile give them credit for it
You got to realise that for many medieval longbowmen that was their job, what they did every day. But if you want proof of modern people pulling greater than 100lb longbows, there are videos on youtube. (I have a 150lb recurve crossbow too so I know what you mean about cocking them.)
yea im not sayin there aint one im just saying i hant never seen one them crossbows are hell pickup and shoot just like a rifle except you can pick the bullet up and shoot it again lol
With modern hunting compounds, like your Bear "Lights Out", you need releases because they are so short in axle to axle length. The string pinch causes tuning problems galore and makes the fingers hurt. The open string angle of longer bows does not pinch the fingers as badly, if at all.
But that 70# compound has more stored energy than a 100# longbow or recurve and will propel the same arrow at the same speed or likely even faster. But speed isn't the name of the game, is it? It accuracy!
yea 10-4 they might be able to pull the 100 pound traditional but I gurantee you playing for arrows will not be fun for them lol im currently shooting a 4 inch circle at 40 yards I want it to be 2 inches before I move back another 10 yards I broke my wrist a few years back so im a bit shakey
4" at 40 yards for an average will put you on the podium in most target venues. 1" per ten yards is a sort of benchmark for accuracy. I'd say you're doing great. Just don't overdo it with the injury.
And at 20 yards the poor longbowmen wouldn't have a single arrow left after a few rounds. Can you say "Robin Hood"? LOL Can't tube mine, though. All mine are built with pin nocks or unibushings. ;-)
But trad archery is awesome, too. Instinctive shooting is a great afternoon of plinking in the yard or on the range. I am just currently digging the pinpoint accuracy one can acheive with compounds a litte more. That's all. All archery is great.
i have respect for the long bow because it takes experience to shoot them but come on now my arrows cost 18 bucks a pop im not goin to chance anythin and i would like to shoot targets in the bullseye at 50 yds without burnin 120$ in arrows the only draw back of me breakin my wrist is that i cnt use tension release because the wrist i broke is the draw hand i have to use the wrist strap and trigger i pull with my middle finger as low as possible to ease the torque but still shake like a bitch
Then check out the Stan Eagle releases. They are a handheld, middle finger trigger release with a velcro or buckle wrist strap. Easy to execute back tension with while target shooting and still commandable in wind or in hunting situations. I use one because of carpal tunnel syndrome. No pain in my hands like with normal handhelds.

Try longbows they are the "grandparents" of all bows and much harder to pull etc if you got high-poundage-bow
