LOL, Triple Play...that happened to me in gym class in 5th grade once...the first guy got up to bat, he hit a single, 2nd guy got up to bat, HE hit a Single, 3rd kid got to bat, he hit it, the guy playing 3rd base caught the ball, touched 3rd base (that was 2), passed it to the kid playing 2nd base, THAT kid touched 2nd Base before the runner got there, I was on deck & the triple play happened & I remember saying "FUCK, THAT WAS A QUICK!!" if I had gotten to bat I would've hit over the fence

I got to see a real live triple play at Tiger Stadium in 1973, hit into by Frank Howard, who while a great power hitter for years with the Senators was finishing out the end of his career at Detroit. With runners at first and second, the hulking slow load that Howard was simply hit into a force out at third, to second, and still in time to catch his fat ass at first.

See, when the guy with the glove catches the batted ball, that means the batter is out, so that's one out, then they throw to second base to get out the runner who was on second, then they throw to first base to get out the runner who was on first. 1 +1 +1 = 3.

Jesus. There are men on first and second. If a batted ball is caught on the fly, a baserunner needs to get back to the bag or else he'll be doubled off. Have you never seen a baseball game? Read the rule book! Rule 7.08(d) says a runner is out if "he fails to retouch his base after a fair or foul ball is legally caught before he, or his base, is tagged by a fielder." That happened to both the runners on first and second in this video, for the second and third outs!

To clarify further, the Dodgers appear to have been running a hit-and-run just when the ball was hit into a quick line drive out. Both runners were waaaaaay overcommited to the point where the SS just had to flip to the 2B who in turn flipped to the 1B without having to rush anything.
