to the creator of this vid, is it true that when you have first strike with death touch that as lonf as the creature isnt targeted with spells that destroy it the creature that is targeted with first/death will die before the combat damage is delt?
(aka will i destroy the creature if i have a 1/1 first/death and vs a 8/8 no buff monster, would i destroy the 8/8 before it kills my 1/1?)
So, if I attack with a creature that has Deathtouch, I can completely ignore the order of the blocking creatures? Is there a reason behind all that? Or are those just ''the rules''? Because I still don't get it.
How does deathtouch work vs a creature with trample? I heard something somewhere about the trample damage being negated if the creature was killed by a deathtouch creature no matter what toughness the defending creature had, or what power the trample creature had.
My last comment was removed, I don't know what I said that was so bad! I'm embarrassed! Anyways, I'd like to ask if someone could explain to me why Moonglove could assign damage in any order? I looked at the combat video and he said you have to go in order, so what is different?
@Lonewolf1126 It can't assign damage however it wants. It must assign "lethal" damage before assigning damage to the other creatures. However, since with deathtouch only 1 damage is needed to be lethal, it can assign one to the first one and another damage to the second creature in line. The first two creatures are destroyed.
he needs to address the first strike death touch combo. I'm pretty sure that if you have a creature with both death touch and first strike it'll kill the opposing creature and still live.
@thugnap First strike will kill the Creature with Deathtouch before it has the chance to do any damage at all, So the First strike creature will survive.
So by this rule about the field remembering things, does that mean that if I attack a person with say, a baloth and the opponent uses a doomblade on me, he destroys my baloth but the field remembers that I attacked and his doomblade kills my creature, but it doesn't negate the attack. So my damage from the baloth still goes through?
no because the scenario mentioned in the video was all in an instance on the stack. Your doombladed creature would be dead before you entered the phase where you assign damage.
The Pyromancer is dealing attack damage with its activated ability (an ability that can happen during upkeep), not being assigned as an attacker, so the hit happens.
Imagine Pyromancer taking the swing and hitting the Planeswalker's creature, then the Planeswalker conjures Doomblade to destroy the mancer.
Remember, you're not your creature, and the creature doesn't summon Doomblade. The creature rightfully dies as it was hit with Deathtouch.
Though, saying the battlefield "remembers" is weird
What's this "memory" thing that they speak of now? When the Prodigal Pyromancer is destroyed by the Doom Blade, no damage should have been dealt. Following the "First In, Last Out" rule, the Doom Blade's effect would have priority over the effects of the Pyromancer's special ability, completely negating the Pyromancer's effect.
i thought the same at first but keep in mind that the pyromancer is not attacking. its using a ability abilities resolve since there on the spell stack. whether or not the permanent is still on the battlefield.
and at the moment of activating the ability it had deathtouch. and at the moment of killing the creature it had deathtouch.
i'm pretty new to magic so i don't know the old rules on abilities. but check the basic rulebook under abilities that should clear it up for the current rules.
If you have EVER played Magic before you should understand how the stack for spells and abilities work. The ability for Prodigal Pyromancer goes on the stack, so regardless of if the Pyromancer is removed before the ability resolves, his ability is still on the stack. If you wanted to prevent the ability, you would need to counter the ability or prevent the damage.
if you read the italics next to some of the things with 'indestructible' then you'll see 'lethal damage and destroy effects don't destroy it' deathtouch is a destroy effect so the indestructible is unnafected
You can't be destroyed. Period. Only way to take them out is to send them back to hand, sacrifice them, remove them from the game, or give them negative counters.
Hi, I have question about Dead Reckoning and deathtouch. If you return dt card and target enemy creature, will it die because of deathtouch?

If the Prodical Pyromancer was equipped w/ a Quietus Spike, would the opponent lose half their life because of it? Some one PLEASE respond.
VampireNighthawk2011 7 months ago
@VampireNighthawk2011
The Pyromancer's ability is not combat damage, so the opponent would not lose half their life.

And what about first strike, and double strike? You did not show me what I was looking for.

So pardon me if he blatantly answered this, but deathtouch creatures only ever have to assign 1 damage to each creature?
DtDust 2 years ago
no. remember that when blocking with multile creatures you allways have to assign the letal damage apart from all the other effects

@darkmonkey555 Because technically I should tell my opponent that I'm declaring attackers. Then he can use his doomblade.

I prefer venom to deathtouch, because you can use fog type cards to cheese it up.
