If Elton John is the Rocket Man, and Billy Joel the Piano Man, Iggy is the Wild One. Even though he's in his 60's here, back in Detroit at places like the Grande Ballroom, I can assure you, he is the The Wild One. This is the man who was stage diving in 1966/67/68, you never knew what he was going to do. As I recall, and maybe I am mistaken, there was a lot of great bands in Detroit in those days, he even broke bottles on stage and danced around in the shards.. You have no clue how wild.
Eat your heart out Steven Tyler...you know Iggy is the real article.......You can only dream about having the talent and escapades that Iggy has had. Iggy destroyed drugs....drugs almost destroy you!!
Iggy Pop on American Idol is like the Zoo trying to sedate a raging tiger; you know damn well what the beast is capable of, even when they try to calm it down
I love Iggy but this performance is aids, the backing band certainly doesn't help nor does the song. He really should of done a song off either his first 2 solo albums or done a Stooges song that wasn't off The Weirdness. I guess that might not of appealed to the American Idol audience though.
Seacrest, "Ladies and gentleman, I don't know if you're ready for this".....did he mean not ready for good music? Raw, unadulterated, balls to the wall rock 'n' roll!
@erkjan What I mean is Iggy was always a counter main stream guy. This performance (IMO) was weak, almost embarrassing. I like Iggy. This was not good though.
@DrugsMakeYouStupid actually i wouldn't say that he's a counter mainstream guy. don't forget that he made a commercial on tv about car insurance. also iggy was always following the musical flow(he was playing disco when disco was "in fashion"). i love iggy but i learned not to critisize his publicity moves.
"I wish it was 1971 Iggy Pop up there, so he could jump into the crowd and beat the shit out of a few sheep."

He invented stage diving, I first saw it in the Grande Ballroom. He also invented a lot of stuff nobody ever copied. That's Rock and Roll imported from the Motor City. You go brother man.

When you listen to Iggy being interviewed, he is very grounded, dedicated and humble. I've noticed how closely he listens to people, and gives direct answers, like an open book. He mentioned in one interview that he prefers simple lyrics, but this is one very smart guy. You have to admire his energy and physical condition at his age.
point: there's no such thing as 'talent' -- 'talent' is a neurosis that occurs when something is comodified by a mass of people.........the short of it? he's singing a classic rocknroll song the way many before him have sung it back when we were still tied to the earth.......yes, We are all a bunch of frustrated tribalists denied of our human birthright: to chant (or rock).....so people, instead of arguing dance around a little bit and get away from that computer!
what the hell did they censor out of mr. pop's mouth? and he's looking really good, maybe not the best singing here, but his energy is still up. :D thats important.
There was an article on this on LA times or something, and the comments were full of (old) people who were offended because he didn't have his shirt on and wasn't appropriate for the show or something. Success!
Iggy is an icon and legend. He is also all wrong for this show. Too many Idol viewers don't know how vital he was in the evolution of rock-n-roll from the late 1960s onward. His performance was subdued by his normal standards. But he still showed the same intensity and charisma that made him such a provocative, disturbing, and engaging performer. The public generally prefers the same predictable and narrow range of music it gets from Idol, so its great when a true innovator is invited on.
Iggy nearly died for his art (literally), and he's earned the right to do what the hell he wants to do...but "American Idol"??? I feel like crying. I mean we all know Steven Tyler is a slut, but Iggy shoulda said "FUCK YOU"!!!!
Ha! Y'all crack me up. Hey, FunBoy, you know Iggy's a faggot, right? There are more fags in the scene than you would like to admit, I suppose. So am I. Whatever, though, that's your problem not mine. About the video: it's censored, so the normaloids don't hear the scary part. Rad. May whatever god(s) bless this man for giving us an edge to sharpen, and for giving us the history and gateway to overthrow monotonous culture. Props to Idol for having the stones to have him on.
WOW I was reading all the comments and it's pretty crazy to see Stooges fans

@IR0NM1K3 Its embarassing that American Idol hasnt had anyone this good perform on the show since it started! Iggy is a legend it was awesome First time I actually watched the show
@IR0NM1K3 Oh my, you insulted me what will I ever do? Oh pussy feathers, I guess I should second guess my taste in music, maybe I should buy Clay Aikens greatest hits....oh wait, he has none! Im sorry I dont remember insulting you in my post. so IronM1K3...what ever that stands for....STFU and get a fucking life
@tragicallyhiprule Caly Aiken sucks too. Enjoy being a real wild one who likes wild fun. Hahahaha. The lyrics are absurdly lame, but you must have missed that in Iggy's super cool dance moves!
@IR0NM1K3 Ironm1k3....why don't you check out Iggy and the Stooges in his own element, not on that gay ass American Idol set...do you have any idea how many other artists Iggy Pop has influenced? David Bowie, The Sex Pistols, The Clash....right on up to Nirvana and The Pixies....Even Steven Tyler who judges the show would list Iggy Pop as one of his idols, I have news for you, what you saw on American Idol was exactly how Iggy has beensince the Lat60's
F that IGGY has paid his dues and done the dirt; he can do whateva the hell he wants and NEVER SELLOUT! Fucking rock n roll; finally rockers getting paid for the hell they went thru back in the day.
For the people who are saying that Iggy didn't belong on Idol, you're wrong.... it proves a point that you don't have to be the best singer, or even look the part. If you can ENTERTAIN people, (in this case through shock and awe), you can be a star. Iggy pretty much invented it. The first concert that I ever went to was Iggy in '79, and trust me, there's a whole lot more to him than Wild One. He's a national treasure and the original punk rocker
Iggy is a rock god! J-Lo should have been sacrificed, right there on the spot! He's Zeus compared to the peon-like, J-Lo/Britney, Idol pop slop crowd! And considering the way J-Lo reacted, she would have fitted right in with all those pasty white provincials who wanted to crucify Elvis or had their heads explode if they had seen The Stooges or MC5 perform back in the day.
People, people, people. Try to remember that Rock and Roll was basically 3 chord hard charging lyrics and music. Iggy was there at the beginning and is still here! And since he is in the Hall of Fame I thank Idol for showing that performance is really a large part of the overall package. Very many people can sing, very few can put on a show. It is amazing that the 70's icons are still rockin and showing the younger generation what it is all about.
My comment has 32 thumbs up but disappeared from the "Top Comments" section? :( I don't get it. does Youtube moderate comments that glorify drugs? lolol
It wasn't the greatest vocal performance ever, but I doubt whether many of these 'Idols' will be able to perform like that when they're 64! (If they even can now....)
the suggestion of menace is enough, because, hey, this might be the guy who tried to smoke spider webs, who would sleep with anyone's friend, and ended up homeless after the stooges and the drugs failed to work, but he's also the guy who does those car insurance commercial with his muppet doppelganger. hey, if dylan can sell cadillacs, and lingerie...
He's 64? He looks 94. I've seen bums on the street dance better than that. He could donate excess skin to burn victims. That was truly horrible. He looked tired and confused.
Iggy Pop on prime time. Steve Tyler a judge on prime time. This is surreal. Tell me that the world is not getting better and that there is no hope. Love it!
@gooTubeSux No kidding! We need to start a petition to get The Dictators on Idol... Handsome Dick would make a great mentor, plus his could shove that wrestling belt right up James Durbin's keister.......
ggy on american idol? wtf? i'm glad, i hope he was paid handsomely, he deserves every penny, the guy is the real deal in a time when mass culture offers zero innovation or authenticity. Fake is not the new real, no matter how they try and sell it, that's what iggy demonstrated here.
Problem is....if youre watching AMERICAN IDOL to begin with, you probably wouldnt be someone who understood IGGY anyway....either too young or too square
If we hadn't of said see ya to Pia last night, this would have been the most shocking moment of the night, hands down. My wife audibly gasped when Iggy popped onto the stage. What a freak!
@ajayjmartin drugs don't really mess up song writing ability. Look at the Beatles their still one of the biggest band till today. So yeah think again.
It just proves how stupid the younger fans are today. Iggy changed the whole industry, creating the stage dive and shock rock. I agree he shouldn't have been on Idol, all the fans of the show are rap and newer music fans. But still you shouldn't disrespect Iggy, he has done a lot for his fans and the rock business
@Rebekah7713 because I wanted to see other people's reaction to having this guy perform on Idol. Didn't realize everyone liked him so much. Everyone has different opinions on what is music, but just didn't see the performance fit for Idol show. Seemed kind of out of their norm that's all....still not sure how this guy is so great based on that performance.
@stang87 well don't base it on this performance. listen to some of his music, lust for life, passenger, tonight, china girl, so many amazing songs. And he changed music, punk rock specifically
I've encountered youngsters talking shit about Iggy Pop before. One kid actually told me Iggy Pop wouldn't have a career if it weren't for Green Day. When someone says something that amazingly stupid and uninformed, you just gotta laugh.
What a Joke how the younger generation talks shit about Iggy, they don't know shit about REAL rock n' roll or REAL PUNK ROCK.NONE of the bands today will last 40+years and be in the ROCK N" ROLL HALL OF FAME.

@IR0NM1K3 Without Iggy there would be no Sex Pistols, Ramones, Clash, Replacements, or anything that resembled a punk movement.
tragicallyhiprule 10 months ago
@tragicallyhiprule I think I could live with that. ; )
IR0NM1K3 10 months ago
Uh NO RYAN I was not ready for this lol! Yes, Iggy Pop is a rock legend, but I think he has done wayyyyyyyyyy too many drugs. Poor Iggy.

Iggy should have buttfucked JLo's dirty asshole and shown the kids real rock and roll.
KillHighPitch 10 months ago 12

:( I don't get it. does Youtube moderate comments that glorify drugs? lolol

Iggy pop kicked ass!Stick in your face pop-culture!
ole714 10 months ago
Iggy Pop will shortly turn 64.
It wasn't the greatest vocal performance ever, but I doubt whether many of these 'Idols' will be able to perform like that when they're 64! (If they even can now....)
MrPeterPollock 10 months ago 2
the suggestion of menace is enough, because, hey, this might be the guy who tried to smoke spider webs, who would sleep with anyone's friend, and ended up homeless after the stooges and the drugs failed to work, but he's also the guy who does those car insurance commercial with his muppet doppelganger. hey, if dylan can sell cadillacs, and lingerie...

He's 64? He looks 94. I've seen bums on the street dance better than that. He could donate excess skin to burn victims. That was truly horrible. He looked tired and confused.
SenorStrange 10 months ago
Iggy Pop on prime time. Steve Tyler a judge on prime time. This is surreal. Tell me that the world is not getting better and that there is no hope. Love it!
gooTubeSux 10 months ago
@gooTubeSux No kidding! We need to start a petition to get The Dictators on Idol... Handsome Dick would make a great mentor, plus his could shove that wrestling belt right up James Durbin's keister.......

ggy on american idol? wtf? i'm glad, i hope he was paid handsomely, he deserves every penny, the guy is the real deal in a time when mass culture offers zero innovation or authenticity. Fake is not the new real, no matter how they try and sell it, that's what iggy demonstrated here.
digimaton 10 months ago
Problem is....if youre watching AMERICAN IDOL to begin with, you probably wouldnt be someone who understood IGGY anyway....either too young or too square
katyludp 10 months ago 3
That performance was beyond gross. I've been waching him for many years and he
only gets worse!
buenymat 10 months ago
If we hadn't of said see ya to Pia last night, this would have been the most shocking moment of the night, hands down. My wife audibly gasped when Iggy popped onto the stage. What a freak!
kensimmonsmba 10 months ago
while iggy pop may prove that drugs don't kill you,
iggy pop proves that drugs screw up your song writing ability.
ajayjmartin 11 months ago
@ajayjmartin
Iggy didn't write this song, so that doesn't even make sense!
momto6pets 10 months ago
@ajayjmartin drugs don't really mess up song writing ability. Look at the Beatles their still one of the biggest band till today. So yeah think again.
FunBoy27100 10 months ago
It just proves how stupid the younger fans are today. Iggy changed the whole industry, creating the stage dive and shock rock. I agree he shouldn't have been on Idol, all the fans of the show are rap and newer music fans. But still you shouldn't disrespect Iggy, he has done a lot for his fans and the rock business

@stang87 why are you watching this then?
Rebekah7713 10 months ago
@Rebekah7713 because I wanted to see other people's reaction to having this guy perform on Idol. Didn't realize everyone liked him so much. Everyone has different opinions on what is music, but just didn't see the performance fit for Idol show. Seemed kind of out of their norm that's all....still not sure how this guy is so great based on that performance.
stang87 10 months ago
@stang87 well don't base it on this performance. listen to some of his music, lust for life, passenger, tonight, china girl, so many amazing songs. And he changed music, punk rock specifically
Rebekah7713 10 months ago
@Rebekah7713Iggy didn't change punk-rock.
He invented it!
GothamClive 10 months ago
@GothamClive right on about that!! and just yesterday saw him in concert...f*ckin amazin
Rebekah7713 10 months ago
I've encountered youngsters talking shit about Iggy Pop before. One kid actually told me Iggy Pop wouldn't have a career if it weren't for Green Day. When someone says something that amazingly stupid and uninformed, you just gotta laugh.
igottabigwon 11 months ago 11
@igottabigwon Yikes!
I had seen somebody once post somewhere, and maybe they were just trolling, that Husker Du had ripped off Nirvana. Shenannigans!

Iggy's like the honey badger: he don't give a shit.
c8udyp 11 months ago
What a Joke how the younger generation talks shit about Iggy, they don't know shit about REAL rock n' roll or REAL PUNK ROCK.NONE of the bands today will last 40+years and be in the ROCK N" ROLL HALL OF FAME.
ThrashPunkfiend 11 months ago 4
Iggy still ruling the planet. he should of taken his dong out and laid it on the judges table in front of J-lo, as a nod to the old days.
MessUupp 11 months ago
Oh boy, something so odd about a 63 year old singing he's a wild child. Should change the lyrics to be he's a wild senior citizen.
109ace 11 months ago
@109ace But the thing is that he's still as active (if not more than the modern day society) kids. Most senior citizen's cant move like that.
