  • these are RARE sirens because they have noon blast built in them unlike any other siren that is

  • High pitched.

  • I've never liked these sirens before.

  • how old is the siren, the controller signals sound like theyre from 1988

  • Is this siren near the fire department?

  • They need to get their money back on these.

  • When does this siren system test? Im thinking about recording a 3016 or a 4004 sometime soon.

  • @WilmothWarningsignal Franklin County tests their sirens every Wednesday right at noon. They always run 2 20 second alert cycles with a 40 second pause between. On the first Wednesday of the month they also test the live voice function but you can almost never hear or understand it unless you're right by the siren.

  • @thecompanycar They now do 3 minute cycles.

  • I think the wind down would be much better if the siren didnt suddenly stop.

  • this is the modle that is in my hometown of menomonie WI

  • since when do these wind down so far?

  • Whoa, i saw that siren in Columbus! :)

  • It's certainly possible. This one is visible from I-270 on the north side, just east of the 23 exit within the loop. Probably around half or just under half of the sirens in Franklin County are this model. The rest are 4004s with a few Thunderbolts left over (saw one in Gahanna last week that's still up).

  • @thecompanycar is this one by cosi? Because on tuesday i went to cosi and i saw a 3016 on the way back to my school.

  • @WilmothWarningsignal I know which one you're talking about. It's right next to Veteran's Memorial off of Broad St. and you'll pass near it getting back on the freeway. The one in this video is in the same system, but it's a good 20+ miles north of downtown.

  • @thecompanycar oh....and yes you are correct.

Within minutes after seeing the 3016 we were on the freeway.

  • @thecompanycar i saw a thunderbolt in xenia a year ago wit the horn off of it the rotator was the only thing on top :'(

  • Thats the biggest one i've ever seen!!!!

  • Yeah but not the loudest. :p the Whelen 4004 (the equivalent wattage of this, 1600w) is the replacement for this. Whelen switched from 16x 100w drivers which was 124dB @ 100' to 4x 400w drivers which is 129dB @ 100'. The omnidirectional (the loudest one that is) 2910 has 10x 400w drivers and is 129dB @ 100'. Main reason being the sound spreads 360 degrees on an omnidirectional whereas it is aimed on a rotating one.

  • I believe it has 10 100W drivers 10 400 watt drivers would be 4000 watts of sound which would probably be like.. iligle lol

  • It's 10 x 400w drivers, but it's omnidirectional. 4 drivers rotating at the same wattage as 10 drivers omnidirectional for the same volume at 100'.

    Which is why the 2910 is 129dB @ 100' and the 4004 is 129dB @ 100'.

  • When ever these things go off my dogs start howlin' it is SO funny. ;D

  • Seen these in Vernon Hills, IL. :)

  • Wooww, super echo to 1:17

  • There was only one voice because a siren's voice was malfunctioning, right? Also, do 3016s have battery backup?

  • is this the one at the high school?

  • No, this one is at a park on Wilson Bridge Rd. in Worthington right next to the railroad tracks and I-270. However, there are many sirens countywide installed at high schools including Grove City High School on the other side of Columbus. Fed3T22 has a video of the Grove City High School siren.

  • I MISS MY SIRATONE!!!! it got replaced with a mod. I never got to see the siratone. my favorite siren and the last one in florida .... ;(

  • i know wherre one is by my house u dont want to learn the hard way whan testing is

  • i have that one by my house but it never talks

  • dude i swear to god that sounds like the air raid siren in call of duty 3!! (the wind up sounds like it)

  • I'm starting to like these Whelen's, but I really hate the abrupt cut off in the wind down.

  • All E-sirens do that. Some go lower than others, but they all abruptly cut off.

  • sounds like an American police siren

  • I live in Trotwood Ohio (near Dayton) and we have a few Thunderbolts and at least one 3t22 or 2t22 I'll post videos of them on my page soon after I sell my car and get a video camera.

  • WHY 3016 AND NO THUNDERBOLTS?

  • lol I live in worthington ohio so I searched Worthington ohio and i got this. Thecompanycar I might know you add me and we'll find out

  • wHAT Kind of hz and frequencies and picth is that siren making? this is the most eerie siren sound ive ever heard.

  • these wheln sirens (like the one in this clip) have a weird look to them. now, i know of one of the whelen models with a voice sound-off can anyone tell me the model?

  • It actully said on the siren board that they do not make these anymore because Whelen was coming up with sirens that were even cheaper then this. They also pointed out that they like the lower tones better because it was saying that the db level had alittle longer range. I still like the 3016s better.

  • Do they still make the Whelen 3016?

  • Sorry to misquote you thecompanycar but when I was about a mile and a half away from a whelen 3016 I was still able to hear it. You were trying to point out that it has a range up to 4,500ft.

  • It has a 70dB range of 4,800 ft. which is the range most people use when placing these sirens. I live about 2 1/2 miles from this exact siren and I can still hear it, but I'm not in the effective range.

  • Whelen 3016s DO sound like 2001s. You got to liston very carefally.

  • nope not a siratone this is made by whelen

  • WOW! i bet if you sit that siren in the middle of my city, i could act as the warning system for my city and the 3 neighboring cities. And i wish our sirens in mississippi talked to us. The just sit there and wail, and half of them don't even rotate anymore.

  • It sounds like a 2001

  • Looks like it could be capable of more than that...eh, oh well - it still works, and it covers a fairly good distance.

  • This is a siren I recorded on my Mp3. It is at the recreation center. I watched it go off a couple times on Wednesday.

  • A 3016 has a rating of 124dB at 100ft. This means that it has a range of about 4,500ft.

  • What's the sound rating on the 3016?

  • This siren is in McCord Park right on Wilson Bridge Rd. next to the railroad tracks.

  • i like the federal signal thunderbolts and i also like the model 5 the fire station in our town has a model 5 and it still sounds great

  • What is the intersection is it by? I live right up the street from this one i think.

  • thats erie

  • 'Windup' on a speaker style siren is just... well... fake... I guess I'm old skool - I like the real mechanical windup on a siren.

  • that's exactly how our's windup.

  • our's windup longer...

  • it does not have that strange electric whoping like noise at the start

  • cool

  • That windup sounds different than a lot of 3016's I've seen. Awesome nonetheless.

  • Awesome!
