I'm an overseas chinese born and raised in Singapore and might be moving to Perth soon. I feel ashamed to be of someone of chinese decent after watching the protest in South Korea by China chinese students during the torch relay. Imagine them Chinese people come into someone else's country and start attacking the "Free Tibet" protesters and ordinary koreans. I heard it was the same in Canberra.
I just feel really lucky my forefathers left China generations ago.
this is cute! what is up with all the hate? i love the original vid for this. just splendid. Great job students for representing their support. Its going to be rather hard for other countries to top off 2008~

It was very obvious by the lack of support from the Aust public. First O I have felt this & first O where I have heard a barrage of negative feeling towards the host country (totally justified in my opinion). On a personal note I found the whole display at the torch relay by Chinese in Australia off-putting. I along with many of my friends chose not to watch the games for the first time. Looking forward to Vancouver & London. Understandable athletes performed bcs of 4yr. Appauling decision by OC
Yes, the behaviour by the Chinese during the torch relay in Australia was appalling. However, it was definitely a triggered response after seeing how people tried to disrupt the relay in other countries beforehand. I believe that disturbing the relay did not achieve anything productive, meanwhile upsetting the people of the host country. Why punish the people for the government's wrongdoings? If people feel the need to express their disapproval, they should find other means of doing so.
But I believe the disruption by the Tibetans and their supporters in Aust and other countries was justified. Many other means of expressing outrage at CCP's occupation of Tibet has been tried within China and we all know what the response has been there.
Whether or not the disruptions were justifiable is a debatable topic. However, it is clear that the CCP had no intention of changing their stance towards Tibet even after this occured. Plus, upsetting the people of the host nation is definitely not a good idea if you want them to see your point of view. I believe Tibet will gain its independence one day and the catalyst for change will be diplomatic. Using aggressive measures will just make the current situation worse.

As a citizen of a nation that hosted the relay I am upset - upset that my gov. & the IOC didn't take a stance on this issue & awarded O to China & hosted the relay. Every day we watch govs. around the world prostitute our countries to China for the sake of cheap goods while CCP continues to ignore human/anim rights, our jobs are exported for cheap lab, destroy enviro & is overpop the world. Tibet is being overrun by Hans & they are under mil. oppression. Like they can do anything within Tibet.
The global economy is a tricky matter. In a perfect world countries are able to conduct trade whilst upholding human rights. Alas, this is not the case. The CCP has no incentive to change due to the demand for Chinese goods by consumers. This is where the problem is. Most governments cannot trade with China if their citizens show significant disapproval. Its easy to point out the problem, but what are the costs in fixing it? Im certain that many have considered this problem before.
The cost is all of us paying a little bit extra for the things we consume. I have started doing this, not always, but I have made a concerted effort. Just finished bld a new home for example and went out of my way to source products NOT made in C. Unfortunately I cannot be certain all parts contained in those products did not use components made in C but they were not made there. Everybody needs to make an effort to reverse the imbalance, keep jobs in the country and stop support the CCP.
Well done, i applaud you on your efforts and sticking to what you believe in. I guess if you want to influence other people, it is best to start with oneself. Set the example now, i am sure more people will become aware in the future. Change is never far away.
Not buying products from China won't hurt the CCP, you imbecile. It will simply hurt the people of China.
Why is it that idiots like you do not see the difference between the CCP and China? They are two separate entities. I understand that you hate the CCP, and probably justifably so, but please do not extend that hatred towards the NATION by which the CCP governs. Do not hate a ntaion simply because you hate their government.
@Allawahguy "idiots" and "imbeciles" like me probably don't distinguish between the two because of people like you. Another party member living the comfortable life in a western country and still defending the motherland?
@showlink. No mate. FYI, I was born and raised in Australia. Contrary to your erroneous assumptions about ALL Chinese people, I am not a party member, I am not a CCP supporter, and I was not educated in China.
Please stop your hatred. It's disgusting. One should not hate a nation because of its government. I am not defending the CCP- simply defending China as a nation.
@Allawahguy My comments still stand. I don't give one iota whether you find them disgusting. Funny how your kind always seem to ignore the real issues. Finally I'm not your "mate" I'm quite selective about the people I choose as my "mates".
@showlink, I was figuratively speaking when I referred to you as "mate". It's how we speak in Australia. It's fine I guess. you're entitled to your opinion, even if they are racist and bigoted.
@Allawahguy I am Australian so I don't need someone like you telling me how we speak in Australia. Secondly, maybe you should look up the meaning of "racist" and you will see that you really are the fool with obvious ethnic baggage.
@showlink...hmmm, so what are you trying to say? That since I am an "ethnic" therefore, I'm not a real Australian? I'm not an Aussie because I'm not caucasian? Is that what you're trying to say?
By Australian Chinese students, we mean either Chinese born in Australia or Chinese who are born overseas but currently studying in Australia, hope that clears things up!
I couldn't go to the Beijing Olympics too because of university work. I am a Chinese-American living in Sydney at the moment. I had that strong urge too that I had to be there in Beijing to witness this once in a life time event. The fact that you guys made this video is good enough, it's very sincere.
China should never have got the olympics in the first place. Most Australians didn't support the Chinese olympics and the fact that CHINESE made this video for the olympics in no way reflects how the majority of AUSTRALIANS feel about the issue.
I understand that many people have mixed feelings about China hosting the Olympics and so do not wish to debate this. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, i do question the validity of your argument on how most Australians did not support Beijing 2008, are you in a position to make that statement? Plus, this video was never intended to represent the majority view of the Australian population, rather just a bunch of Chinese Australian students wishing to show their support. Regards
Look I don't know what you talking about. Sports and politics set aside. This is the Olympics not only for *PRC* but for all *Pan-Chinese descendants* worldwide which all trace their roots to a common heritage 5000 years ago. That means 1/5 of the world's population after a century of hardship. Are you Chinese related? If not, shut up, it's none of your aus business if we wanna celebrate the fact that we get to host an international Olympics event. You 're so rude.
@musicdisciple So if you don't know what I'm talking about why are you writing about my comment? No, the Olympics is not for China, the Olympics is for the world & China did not deserve to be awarded the Games.
Well, tell you what, in that case, I was strongly *opposed* to Australia getting the rights to host the 2000 Sydney Olympics too. Aus should've never gotten to host such games from its past records of racism and the way you guys marginalized the true owners of the land aborigines into extinction. Cronulla race riot, Recent year of Indian student protests, years of oppression towards Asians.
I am American, Nobody cares what some anti-asian provincial aussie *PIGS* thinks. :)
@musicdisciple Were you now. Bad luck for you. I'm from a part aboriginal family so your comments in that respect don't stick with me. You might also like to know that indigenous ppl in Aust are not "extinct". Cronulla "race riots" were in response to arabic men attacking lifeguards at the beach, some, not all, of the protests from Indian students were unfounded & in response to incidents not even involving Aust ppl.
@musicdisciple As for your comment regarding "oppression of asians" LOL. Chinese in particular should be thanking Aust for allowing them including the 10,000 odd Chinese students who cheated there way in here after the Tian Sq mass taking the place of real refugees/asylum seekers. Asians are free to leave if they are feeling "oppressed". You are not American you are Chinese.
The Chinese students were given the rights to be in aust because one of your previous pm's back in the 90's pardoned them and let them stay in here, not "cheated their way" in, the ad was on tv where he was in tears as he granted that pardon.
I am Chinese-American(born in cali), you can read my *very first comment* I left on this page. This is the Beijing Olympics - it's for *all* Chinese descendents worldwide, not only ones from PRC. No room for aust dogs to be barking on here.
@musicdisciple Boo Hoo PM crying. Doesn't have the support of all the people. Yes they cheated their way in here seeking asylum when there was no need not to return after their degrees were finished. I have aboriginal family members. There were cases where Indians students were protesting (eg Indian man set alight) where it turned out to be in fact self inflicted. That is just one example. You shouldn't be in Australia mouthing off about this country. Return home.
@musicdisciple As for your comments re aboriginals seeing as you are so proudly "pan-Chinese" maybe you should tell your overbreeding Han Chinese friends to move the hell out of Tibet. sorry i left on msn and didn't return that evening you sent me the link, but now that i've seen it you can rest assured that i'm very proud of you and what we've all achieved together, all of us who've participated in this !
i see the use of will's bloopers xD and of us walking down chinatown. the olympics are coming to an end tonight, and it's been spectacular so far. china will definitely host the games again in our lifetime !
