You need to create a type of ink that has your blood has a primary component but not the only component, because blood clearly isn't doing the trick on its own. Either that or your pen isn't drawing out the blood with just enough steady suction to match the surface tension.

yes the blood is in fact red ink. this is an engineering test to make sure the pump works. the real blood will be used to create the artwork for the Spanish exhibition.

Certain factors suggest this is a Hoax. Wrong needle to draw the blood. Why didn't he show the actual blood being drawn? Blood coagulates in that type of recipient. Anyway, it still is a cool visual.

Aside from the fact that we don't actually see him drawing that muck from his vein (nice camera trick, though), it probably would have been simpler to add some anticoagulant and fill a real fountain pen. Probably wouldn't be so good for the pen, though.
