The new album is great but, and I hope I won't take too many negative votes for this, I really don't like this song... they could have chosen a much better single IMHO
@NjDevilsFan77 Welcome to my DNA is great. I listen to it all the time. SW never lets me down. Even though Aviv actually wrote most of this one. Blood, Oxygen, and Zigota are my favourites.
One thing (among many) that I love about SW is that he can seemingly perform any kind of music. Ambient, progressive, drum n bass (his collab with Pendulum), hard rock, art rock, drone, soundscape, pop. The guy never lets me down
fantastic video.. the amount of detail that has been covered is quite remarkable! people who have watched live shows by Blackfield will know exactly what I'm talking about!!
i think ive listened to this song every day since i first heard it. im a huge pt/wilson fan but ive never done that with any of his other masterpieces! this one just has a great vibe to it
You know Steven Wilson, I'd be so happy if you would actually stop playing the same chords again and again for every one of your songs. I wish you would break the mold and get out there. When I saw you live with Porcupine Tree, you stood around and didn't try to excite the audience like your opening group, King's X did. You're too safe. Do something risque and outside the expectation of everyone. Get some new influence for christ's sake and maybe you'll stop producing the same stuff.
@IntrospectIntellect if he does use the same 4 riffs, i havent even noticed. i beleive theres an art to listening to music. steven wilson is my favourite artist for me because his music prefectly fits into my personal music template. maybe if u would stop analyzing how the song is made and instead just enjoy the song u would get more satisfaction from it ??? :P
@killercreek450 Also, people have to realize Steven Wilson has many band projects. Blackfield is simply his pop/top 40 style band, that focuses on simple radio friendly songs with hooks and harmonies that were a staple of the 70s sound.
Porcupine Tree is more heavy or psychedelic progressive rock, and No-man would be in the adult contemporary vein, although they have some heavier riffs as well. Then there is Steven's solo works, Bass Communion (electronic) and is other works with producing
@fuwmg did you just say that Blackfield "focuses on simple radio friendly songs"? Kind sir, although Blackfield may be slightly less out-there than PTree, I think it's hardly accurate to describe their songs as "simple".
@RICbass78 Ok, simple is not the term I was meaning here. Compared to PT music, Steven says Blackfiend is more pop friendly, top 40 style song writing. I am a huge fan of everything Steven Wilson touches, so please dont chastise me for misuse of a single word.
Compared to PT works, Blackfield is much less complex and focuses more on the shorter, hook style sounds of the 70s and 80s top forty.
@fuwmg not looking for an argument at all! Simply a huge fan of Blackfield and of PT and of SW in general. Also, thank you for possibly being the 1st person in youtube history to accept and subsequently correct their mistake :-)
@IntrospectIntellect and if you dont think he has "broke the mold", try listening to Bass Communion or any of his other side projects. they will change your introspective look on him greatly
@killercreek450 Already have. That's called "self indulgent wankery". Is there a line between that and making the music actually listenable to?
There seems to be a lot of narcissism going around in the prog rock circles lately and I'm getting fed up with it, whether it be playing it too safely or wanking off to their own ideas.
Where are my masterpieces? Why won't music surprise me anymore?
Possibly the best song on a very solid Art-Rock album. The video is funny and tongue-in-cheek. Exactly what to expect from someone like Steven Wilson.
downloaded the album the day after it came out and haven't stopped listening to this song in particular since. And all the lyric websites have the line "see if you can maintain your poise" as "see if you can maintain your voice" dumbasses...
True, it’s not right to compare it with the masterpieces of PT. Still, it is indeed a good album. One may miss Gavins perfection but Tommer Z is good.
Horrible video, there's no "deep thought" behind it. It's just so shitty that fans don't want to recognise it... and the album too... I'm missing the old Wilson, what did you do with this project? :(
@rocketsfalls It's got nothing to do with Wilson, for the most part. This is the only song he wrote for the album and the rest are all Aviv's doing. Blackfield was never one of Wilson's better projects anyway. Just listen to Insurgentes if you think he's lost his talent for songwriting and you'll see otherwise.
Nice song but the video... it was interesting at first but it´s just too much of the same in total, computer figures up close doing the same things, I wish there´d be a little more variation in it, like switching to the real life SW and Aviv and the computer images back and forth a few times?
Fantastic!love the parody video; steven always makes me giggle some. always thought backfield songs were a tad short I forget what the song sounded like when it finished, guess that means ill give it another listen :D. this new album though is gonna be top art i bet.
You guys are crazy this video is sick! You just need to see it from SW's perspective of everything he has done and what Blackfield represents to him, or you could just smoke a bowl.
@kitthehacker This video makes so much more sense when you put it that way, thanks! I kinda thought it was tied in to a deeper meaning (like Fear of a Blank Planet) when it shows the infinite regression of televisions at the end.
