@chimchar68. I agree. It takes away from those who really were genius- like John Belushi. If you aren't familiar with him as a stage actor or his entire body of work, then you probably don't think he was special. And frankly, you have to have lived through that time period to understand his importance.
This is one of my favorite movies!Belushi saying hes lost.Over the Grand Canyon?Funny stuff.Slim Pickens in the Sub classic.I wish I was there when they filmed the opening shot of this clip with the P-40 flyby.Friggen wicked I bet!!!
I guess people take this film too much seriously. It was pure spoof on War and it worked. I love this movie very much. Steven Spielberg still never disappoints me. Also it was nice to see young Nancy Allen (Philadelphia Experiment, RoboCop trilogy). She was awesome. The same with other actors - Dan Aykroyd, Ned Beatty, Tim Matheson, John Belushi, Lorraine Gary, Treat Williams, Toshiro Mifune, Wendie Jo Sperber.......
I love this move. The music the costumes Belushi all star cast.Slim Pikens in the sub friggen Epic. When hes taking those big shits throwing his boots in the toilet.I LMAO!
@septichar, I also think it would've been better had Landis directed. Spielberg's humor in this movie is mostly slapstick (which was already outdated even back in 1980.) That kind of humor works in small doses but it can't carry an entire film.
@thx291 He probably wouldn't have spent as much money. if you remember, this movie bombed at the box office and it came very close to tanking Spielberg's career.
It seemed that's what Spielberg was aiming for. It also would have been a better film if it didn't center around the dipshit actor Bobby Di Cicco. How could you make a movie with that type of cast and not have it centered on them?!
I laughed so hard when he pulled out the squeaky toy...and throughout the movie, it can be heard as Wild Bill walks or moves, which makes it funnier.

@gopsu2011 I think I read in his biography that it wasn't even him scratching. It was one of the stunt doubles because he didn't want to do it.

I don't think his creativity was destroyed by cocaine. This movie was destroyed by a terrible script and a bunch of dickhead producers. not funny

cause it wasn't a very popluar or successful film, the theme is not very well known, but the theme to 1941 is one of John William's classics.

@rayjr62 - I'm not sure if this one film endangered Spielberg's career. He still had two mega-hits under his belt.
