  • I liked how after changing shells, he looked into the old one as if you say 'Did I forget anything in the move?'

  • Good

  • AW, you got it from the mall? you probably saved her life. and i that's great the she switched. it looked like she was almost struggling to get out. a lot of times they get glued inside there painted shells. i am liking the vid at the fact you gave a huge tank, and lots of awesome shells

  • hey if you look at the black little pocket on the hermit crab that means it is molting go to when it is 1:07 and pause

  • sexy crab

  • looks like a robot at the end

  • pervert

  • theres a huge trade going on with the islands where hermit crabs are naturaly found. people find shells and paint them with normal toxic spraypaint and then force the crabs into them. you can buy shells that are just plastic so there isnt even paint on them so therefore they are not toxic.

  • HELP HIM

  • yur hermit crad is about to molt

  • the second shell looks like a bit smaller than the first one, he cant hide his claws

  • holy crab that was cool!!

  • I'm not a crab owner but I've been seeing this painted shell topic very often now. Are there really no shells that have natural dyes that are not harmful to the crabs? It just sounds so silly to put something toxic on their shells. And if these colors are really toxic, have you any proof that it falls off and harms the crabs? What chemicals are being used?

  • @helgih580 When I bought two of my crabs, they came in painted shells. They changed into some natural shells in the tank after I got them. Then I noticed that they were chipping off the shell, and the paint and eating it. After I found out they were toxic, I removed them right away. But I also noticed that they didn't seem to be eating the other shells, just the painted ones.

  • I had two hermies who wount come out of there painted shells. They both died :( One my sister got me, was molting when she bought it. I didnt know at the time that brownish eyes meant they were about to molt i thought he was just diffrent D: it took him 3 monthes to molt and when he did, he came out with no legs and died afew days later. Soon after the other one I bought died aswell. I dont know why it died. And im still confused too this day. He had everything he needed and then some. :(

  • texamedic4 it looks as if it was about 2 moult

  • aaaaaaawwwwww so beautiful & a amazeing watching this video I give this video 10,000 star's.

  • glad to see it getting into a natural shell

yea i know the painted thing was covered already

but i like to see it in a non toxic one

  • @micromanty1 It is Probly Because it was too dry or there food wasnt mushed Up or water was too deep Or sometimes when there dont get bathed It causes and inftection or mold on the shell and then they would eat the mold

  • Painted Shells Are Toxic For Crabs These little guys NEED to live So Get rid Of that Painted SHELL

  • Id changes out of that stale shell too.... Good job crab

  • watch tis>>''my hermit crab changing body ''

  • "a lido privacy plz?"

  • cool! so cute. it's so cautious about it.

NOW GET RID OF THAT PAINTED SHELL!

  • @halbeans its not good for hermite crabs because they might swallow the shinny coathing and die.Natural shell is better and nicer

  • My crab just changed shells today but I had just missed it. I went in to find him in a new shell which excited me. But when I went back to take another look he had changed back to the old one. I went and got him a few more incase he needed a bigger size.

  • I just watched my daughters crab change shells it was so cool

  • Thanks for sharing that! You're lucky you got to see it, let alone grab the camera fast enough!

I've heard they don't like those painted shells & that they aren't good for them, so I don't buy them. That's probably why she switched!

  • I've been wanting a hermit crab for sometime. I've never seen the part of them that hides in the shell, it looks interesting.

  • The Crab would rip in half (the area connecting the exterior part to the part normally in the shell is very weak) - which would result in its death. DON'T TRY TO PULL A CRAB OUT OF ITS SHELL!

  • no u would kill it and if possible you didn't(O_o) kill it, it would still pinch the crap out of u

  • your crabs are probably dying because they didn't molt. put lots of sand in their cages and they'll dig down and burry themselves and molt. do not bother them when they molt. its will take about a month is what i heard. anywhoo, molting is when they grow a no exoskeleton, or something like that. they sometimes switch shells, google hermit crabs molting.

  • That looks a bit like a baby coconut crab. (They look and live like hermit crabs when they're little)

  • That's so cool. My kids had hermit crabs when they were young, but I never saw them change shells before.

  • Lol I can just imagine Nigel Tufnell out of Spinal Tap coming along and picking them up like "In this shell, see, nobody...and in this shell-theres a little guy! Its a complete catastrophy!" I just love that film...

  • u know water is not such a good idea i used to have sadly they passed but if u misst em some and they sell special jelly like stuff meant for herit crabs that they cant drown in pluse it has lots of vitemins for them and i would advise following some of the other things said.good luck

  • please dont buy any more, they massacre has gone on long enough

  • well shell fights are rarly fatal but its head dosnt fall off so it probobly had it commin by it messing around :P it will just happen if u add more, mine was draged into the water dish add more shells and get him some freinds they like crabs, keep it moist warm, and hope evry one gets along in thire crabitat, oh p.s. make sure they dont drown ok? lol

  • u shouldnt use painted shells. after a while the paint starts to chip and get all over their habitat n the smells kill them.

  • its dry so it would have to eat it to injest it

  • NO that is a moulting sack hermit crabs gett it then when they are down under the sand they use it to eat and keep themselves hydrated. They do not have water sacks they keep water in the back of their shells yes but do not have a water sack.

  • i have baby hermit crabs

  • Oh, that hermies got a molt sack, cool!

  • cure hermie check out my hermie under my vids i probably have the best hermit crab shell on my hermie ever

  • how do you know when its time to change its shell?

  • that was really cool

  • I just videotaped my hermit crab ,Jack, (aka Jack Tripper from Three's Company) changing shells.Very interesting. He went into one shell and went back into his former shell. He has been in the same spot trying to decide which shell he prefers, for over 30 minutes...decisions decisions!Cute video! Luv hermit crabs!!

  • um. ew.

  • They are posionus to hermies. Not the paint, but the shiny coating.

  • my hermit crab has buried himself and been down there for about 2 weeks. I know he's a live because if i look under the tank i can see him and he is responsive. However he is not even faded yet. He doesn't even seem like he's close to being ready to molt. What should I do?

  • at 1:09 what was the black bubble on it?

    her heart?

  • no its a water sack it uses it to keep moisture through out her body

  • please dont use painted shelles!

  • your crab is pregnant

  • no its not its a water sack it uses it to store water in its body

  • AWESOME

  • My Hermit Crab Just Changed From A Batman Shell To A Brown Speckled Shell :D

  • when its claw covers half of the opning

  • wow... how do you know when it needs a new shell?

  • isnt that a boy? i cant find the difference well. and how long will it take?? i have 3 hermies, 2 of them's shell is TOO big for them. my little baby walks around with her eyes covered with her shell. btw, so cute how gloria keeps looking down!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I BOUGHT ONE LAST SATURDAY AND ONE YESTERDAY THE ONE I BOUGHT YESTERDAY JUST CHANGED SHELLS! but the other hasnt :( i was on the computer looking at this and when i went to go look at him he was in the new shell i was like OMG

  • y do they have to paint the shells, i hate that, the shells look kool with out the paint

  • then get one without paint :)

  • LOL Gloria

  • i felt bad that you got a comment saying i would of laughed if the shell got taken away they can only last 1 min. without a shell

  • i want my hermit crab thunder(thats its name) 2 change shells.i hate his oringanal

  • how long does it take for tem to switch shells??

  • I have 4 hhermit crabs and 2 of them changed shells @ the same time!!!! It was amazing! pretty wierd too but kool!

  • naked hermit crab !

  • would've been crack up if they pulled the shell away from it on the last minute

  • thats kinda mean..

  • lolll

  • ur an ass hole they die 1 min. with out a shell because they need water to breath they get water in there shell and put there gills in it and breath so suck big hairy balls

  • its a land hermit crab

  • i know all hermit crabs have gills and the way they breathe is they collect the humidity in there shell and breathe with there gills

  • your an ass hole fuck your mom and every other mean comment in the world they die if there out of there shell for more than 1 min. so suck hermit crab balls

  • So I have three hermit crabs. First one, eh, about two years old. We get a new one about three months ago, within the first hour or so, switched shells -.-

We get a new one for Christmas, they play another round of musical shells. So then the smallest crab leaves his shell and sits under the water dish for a week with no shell (no joke). So the middle sized one steals his shell, but leaves his own for the "naked" crab. So today I finally coaxed him into a shell. They are finally at rest :)

  • i have a hermit crab but he is still small but he is pretty strong because he clipped my nails its nice and his name is Sherman

  • Say our bright lights harmful to hermit crabs cause i got to know before i do any pernament damage to my hermit crabs

  • thats cool. i never saw a hermit crab without a shell before and the new shell it went into is beautiful lol

  • That is soooo cool! Thanks for the video! And hey, lay off the painted shell stuff -- to each his own. I have yet to have an issue with anything painted although I prefer natural shells, not everyone does.

  • People... please read!!!

  • man i have 3 hermit crabs 2 of them have changed shells.

  • Hey i have two hermit crabs and one of them i get 1 month ago and it changed shells and my other one i have had for like 3-4 months and it is realy small and it wont switch shells did it stop growing

  • Why did it go to the smaller one? I thought they went into bigger ones?

  • big shell might have been too big for him. I just got a crab a few days ago and he was in a big shell and changed to a smaller one....

  • Painted shells are toxic to your crab. Crabs in captivity can live to be over 20 years old! but this is only if the shells they live in will not slowly kill them. as the paint chips they will eat it as they are scavengers, also when the paint chips get in the water it will contaminate it. natural shells are better for you baby. and a plus, THERE CHEAPER!

  • Ok, puh-lease, get off your soapbox and go read a few comments made earlier. This painted shell topic was covered already... twice.

Read my print: NO PAINTED SHELLS IN MY TANK. PET STORE HAD PAINTED SHELL THAT CRAB WAS IN. WHEN CRAB CAME HOME, CHANGED INTO NON-PAINTED SHELL. I TOOK VIDEO & REMOVED PAINTED SHELL FROM TANK. I KNOW MORE ABOUT HC CARE THAN YOU DO. AT LEAST I READ!!!

  • @Sunshinessmile0 Dude. the crab just changed shells. :P

  • She's a Purple Pincher

  • @texamedic4 correction she s a coenobita brevimanus and thats the indonesian one

  • its really funny, we got one hermit crab, had it for a month, and then got another one for it to play with. its funny because the one we got changed shells that day, and then our first one changed into that ones old shell!

  • What awesome footage!
