Do you live in La Habra? This looks very similiar to a neighborhood by me haha. BTW, I just signed up on the COW forums (as Mr. Hat) because I'm starting to put my Indy impression together. You probably know my friend Marcus (aka Browdsword) who I've known from reenacting.
i think you have a good form, and kind of a theatrical style, if you get what i mean? although, you shouldn't shave before doing indycracks ;P(if you can grow a beard that is.. )
Thanks, Jimmie! I practice my form a lot. Since I know the basic cracks pretty well, and have an alright understanding of some of the more complex ones, I really try and work on my form to keep everything clean. I learned from a very theatrical teacher though, which contributes to the fancy style.
My whip was made by Paul Stenhouse and I got it for almost half price, at $255. If your whip's a little stiff, send it to me and I'll work it out for ya! ;-)
hey why do all persons that use a whip cover theirheart and lungs or the whole chest with their left hand???Just to make it look cooler or to really prtotect yourself from whip damage???
Being a Whip Cracker myself i belive i can give an honest answer for this one. It is not to protect yourself or look cool. When you are doing 1 handed cracks your other hand needs to be somewhere and it doesn't get in the way by your chest.
Oh, man. I had terrible form and I looked kinda dumb. lol I deleted that one. It was kind of popular though, I guess... Hmmm... I'll make a new one of me just messing around some day though. As soon as my new fedora comes back from getting reblocked!
I think it was so popular cause you gave them all names. And it wasn't just the "overhead crack" and "circus crack" - you actually did like 5-7 cracks I'd never heard of! That's why I loved it so much. This was pre-Bernie and Adam with all due respect <3.
I just got a new Adventurebilt fedora about a month ago, and I sent it back to be resized. To put it simply, when you make a hat you put it on a block of wood (or other material) which gives it the dome shape, so that it doesn't look like a cone. Then after it comes off the block you can trim the brim, put in the sweatband and liner, shape the hat, etc. etc. So when mine comes back from being resized, I'll make a new video. =P
Thanks! ;-) I just realized this video is like... 5x longer than any other video explaining this thing. I guess it's less complicated than I make it seem.
Remember if you're actually going to swing on your whip, that it's a whip made FOR swinging on - NOT a regular whip! The video was half-joke. I didn't actually swing on the whip in that video... but I'm glad you learned from this one, which is totally serious!
Thanks for showing this:)

Thanks! Glad you like it!
That song is called "The Basket Game," and it's from the Raiders of the Lost Ark soundtrack by John Williams.

Hello nice video, just wanted to ask about your whip, is it a david morgan´s whip? if not, where do you bought it?
pepevolt 3 years ago
It is by Paul Stenhouse, a student of David's. He's currently not making whips, but may begin making them again in the near future.

I've added some annotations to the video with the full specs of the whip, around 1:34. Thanks for the question!
