Horses are starving and the market is dead. People are literally releasing them into state parks because they cannot afford to take care of them. It is ilegal to slaughter horses in the USA for meat. It is also illegal to bury a horse on most private property. This is truly fucked up. Horse slaughter needs to be legal and horse meat is a legitimate and wholesome food. What should people do with horses they can no longer take care of or sell?

If the horse farms would stop breeding more horses than there is demand for, then there would not BE any unwanted, neglected, starving horses for the slaughterhouses to kill.

To end horse slaughter, the horse breeders must control the rate of breeding so that the supply is not greater than the demand for horses.

And those who keep them must decide to KEEP their horses rather than sell off the surplus horses to a slaughterhouse buyer who outbids everybody else.

That's the answer.

I own 13 horses who all but 5 are rescue horses obtained from auctions and being abandoned. I have seen horses at auctions who were perfectly healthy and being fat & the killers paid more for them just like with cattle. Our horses come first and we dont have new furniture, vehicles, trailers, etc but they all are fat and healthy. We dont breed, show or register them(dont want to support pro horse slaughter orgs.)Quit making excuses for slaughter there is no need for it,be responsible and commit.

the thing is, we need horse slaughter houses. Sure, a lot of non horse owners will say its bad, because they don't realize whats happening. Now that we don't have slaughter people are letting their horses just run free and the horse market has gone down dramatically and its actually hurting horse owners. the horses being left to the wilderness are suffering worse than going to slaughter houses.

I totally agree with you...i LOVE horses and i dont support horse slaughter but its better than letting the starve to death. I live in tennessee and last year there were alot of horses let loose in the strip pits and they looked really bad. The strip pit horses have gone wild and are dieing off from sickness, starvation, and injuries all because ppl could afford to take care of them and couldnt sell them. I do think they could find more humane ways to kill the horses at the slaughter houses

The only problem is, even if we ban slaughter in this country, it's not banned in Canada or Mexico, and horses get transported off U.S. land into one of these border countries and get slaughtered there. We'd have to ban slaughter in North and Central America to start really making a difference.
