Norwegian Purling

I get confused by the repeating of how I do not want to knit this. Please, just show me over and over how to Norwegian purl so I do not have to wait for you to show me again.

I wish I had learned this from the beginning. I've been knitting for years and I've always hated to constantly have to move the yarn in front and behind the needle, because it just slowed me down so much. Thanks for doing this video!

Thank you so much for this video. It's easy to see and understand what you are doing, so that's very helpful.

I've always found continental purling to be impossible, because I have so little dexterity in my left hand. When I knit continental, I just use my left finger to hold the yarn taut and in place, while my right hand does all the movement. This method is great for me because these are movements I can make fairly easily.

Coming from Finland, I learned the continental style and wasn't even aware of other styles of knitting basic knit and purl until last week. Anyway, my Mum taught me to purl like this, with the yarn in the back, but also to skip the excessive needle movement of the right hand. When at the back, I use my left index finger to wrap the yarn over the needle for the stitch, and so to me there is not much of a difference between purl and knit, other than the very first movement. It's very fluid!

This is great!! I'm an abso-newbie to knitting but I've already decided that I prefer the Continental method. Unfortunately, the standard Continental Purl is super awkward for me - but that may be largely due to my inexperience.......;-?

But this Norwegian Purl worked perfectly on the very first try!

It is a little extra needle/wrist movement, but well worth the effort for me.

Thanks for showing this method of purling. I tried it and I like it tremendously. I love knitting continental style, but never really liked the purl movements. This way, even though you maneuver the wrist a little more, it somehow is more relaxing and fluid than the traditional continental method. I've already begun purling this way. ;)

I am going to try this when I get home tonight. I have the hardest time with continental knitting and then switching to purling... it feels so akward to me, so I think this may be better if I can leave the yarn behind...

I absolutely love this method! My Granny taught the basics of knitting when I was very young and I am trying to pick it back up. The continental method just seems to flow so well! I was wondering, what type of needles are you using in the video? Your stiching is so fluid, I know its got to be a mixture of your wonderful talent and those needles! If you could please let me know, I would appreciate it! Great vid!

In this video, I'm using my KnitPicks Options needles, which are an interchangeable set of circular needles. They have nickel plated tips, and nice, flexible cables, plus the tips are nice and pointy!

Thanks for your quick response! I checked out the needles on the KnitPicks website they look great! I have one more question, do the needles have to be used with the cable or can they be used as regular knitting needles? After reading the reviews and seeing your dexterity with those needles I think they will be a great investent! Thanks again for your time.
