  • A memory of this creeps into my mind from about 9 years old.

  • classe 1979...me lo ricordo come fosse ieri, che bei ricordi...

  • Sounds like there is a channel missing.

    Still a cool vid tho.

  • great work, thx so much - i used to play this... ;)

  • So I guess this would be the original Medal Of Honor. Wow used to love this game so much.

  • 2:25 MEN = 0* (Then why the hell is zero before ???)

  • great

  • I'm sitting here jammin' to this music....lol. It brings back memories that I had forgotten.

  • Best game, best music, best platform.

  • Thanks for posting this! This game is one of my earliest gaming experiences and was, at the time, awesome!

  • man this game has awesome fast-paced gameplay

  • COD doesn't have shit on this game!!

  • Damn , I always hated those mofos whit rocket launchers.

  • The video is missing one of the sound channels.

  • just 3 minutes to get through the game... that's not enough... who designed the levels? was he on crack?

  • Reinhard, du Verrückter! ;D

  • One of the few C64 games I could play right through. Awesome game back in the day.

  • The music's the best part of the game, and it's messed up in this video.

  • this was a great game, but the c64's music was prob the best out of any of the consoles/computers

  • @donovanjd3 Yeah, especially Commando's music, probably my favorite SID tune. Shame it's a bit messed up in this video.

  • Cool!

I wish I was 8 again, and played this for the first time.

    Memories, sweet memories.

Did anyone else place the keyboard at their feet to use the grenades?

  • @magnificent666 no but that was a great idea to do it that way lol

  • lol, I played over million score for Commando 20 years ago and it the score counter reseted. It was quite annoying :) because ti taken about couple hours if I remember correctly :).

  • I have this game on my phone ! ... and it's not a iphone !

  • The music is great. You can find a remixed version of it in the bionic commando remake

  • lol, he finished the game in 3 mins only. well done.

  • was this based on the arnold swarenegger film

  • That was the complete game ???

  • i remember this game i played it really often . the last time was when i played one round for hours. I had millions of points and lots of extra lives. then My mother switchet out the computer

  • @tassay I'd have fucked her up for that.

  • Awesome game, but too short.

  • Try this: Load Commando into the emulator, do a soft reset, then:

    sys 24332

    sys 24426

    (If i remember correctly)

  • where can I find this music?

  • @TiesTorN

You can use the C64-Emulator WinVice.

This emulator allows to record wave-files from the games.

  • @DerSchmu Man I loved this game back in the days. This and Ikari Warriors but when you say Tool assisted what does that mean? iv seen speed runs with it but I dont know what it is

  • @zom247

Tool assistence Gamingvideos are made with an emulator an the option to use savestates. In the case you made an error or lose an live you can jump back to an older Savestate. That`s the reason tool assisted videos seems to played so perfectly.

  • Hands up if you used your toe on the space bar to throw the hand grendades?

  • the dude who played that is very good

  • in der ersten area wo die geisel von 2 soldaten weggebracht wird... du erschiesst die beiden -mal eben so,im vorbeigehen- ohne die geisel zu treffen? oO

is mir, glaub ich, NIE gelungen.^^

sollte das echt ungecheated gespielt sein...hut ab! :)

(zu meiner schande muss ich gestehen, dass ich's nie ganz durch hatte... wenn mich irgendwas gefrustet hat, kam halt'n anderes game rein! :D )

  • Ah, I remember the joy when I first time managed to complete this game.

Too bad it was so short, could be completed in mere 3 minutes. :)

  • The C64 soundchip is fucking baller! Second only to the SNES imo.

  • This, like Ghosts 'n Goblins, is a shorter game than you think once you know how to complete it. You did even better than me by not losing any lives. In fact you got so many extra lives it bugged the display up LOL Well done!

  • what is that thing what drives by in the beginning of 2nd area? :D i didnt figure that out 25 years ago and i still dont get it :D

  • @vicemanFIN Good question! Freezing it and looking at it now I'd say it's a truck driving by with a guy shooting out of it, even though the sound effect is more like a washing machine than a motor LOL

  • man the music is sick!

  • F**K YEAH!!! This game was my first game that i ever played. I played it for so long that i still heard the music hours after i played. When i hear this song now, i still get goosebumps!!!! Hell yeah, love it!!!! Best game ever. Even better than Modern Warfare 2 in comparison....

  • I remember the first time I finished this was I was bout 10 it was so hard. I played it for the first time in about 15 years a few days ago and finished it first time.

Its so easy when you know how to complete it.

  • I love this game!!! :)

  • Great conversion and the music is still amazing to hear to this day.

  • does anybody remember "Mission Lybia" ?..just popped into my head

  • @Werwolfwer That's Commando Libya part I.

  • did you use the invicibility cheat when playing this?

    just askin..

  • @MentengElites

No. The videos are played tool assisted but without collisions- or other cheats.

  • absolutely superb - i never got anywhere near that. i must say though, the words wasted and youth come to mind. i take it you wernt interest in girls during this period?

  • quite short game ;D

  • Just the kind of game I would smash my controller for after dying 50 times in a row

  • the best game ........THX

  • rewind tape to 635 and reload --- the good old days -- lol

  • Does anyone remember commando loader music?Where can i listen that song??????

  • Excellent played dudde

  • This game is really mostly known for the epicness of the soundtrack. Well, Rob Hubbard is the man to call when you go 8-bit.

  • Nope, not when you throw the bomb or other effects. The sound is missing one channel (someone mentioned filters). Listen to original tune and hear that one channel is missing in this video.

  • Okies, I think I hear what you're talking about, or /not/ hear it as the case may be; this one is somewhat muddy-sounding compared to other recorded versions. Giving it a listen carefully does find something lacking; good ears, man. As first posed, it looked like you meant the effects hogging the mike. :)

  • Sound effects use up sound channels too, that's why the music is 'broken'....duh

  • Comment removed

  • the sound is broken... listen to this one hear how it is supposed to sound:

    watch?v=qrQuR1LHAVI

  • It's not broken, that's what it sounded like when you played. It's a C64, not exactly tons of overhead for running things. I remember trying to time grenade throws to the music!

  • The music rocks in this game!

    -kidThunder

  • Whoa what happened at the end of the game, did our hero just rush into the building and slaughter everyone there?

  • I always remember this game for its awesome musictrack.

  • Great game, shame the C64 version only had 3 levels. Fun nonetheless..

  • classic

  • This is the whole game? Pretty damn short.

  • I know this might sound silly but i loved the C64 version better than the arcade.

  • Fist 2 Sountrack is very nice

  • one of the c64's finest soundtracks,

Good conversion for the 64, doesn't suffer from the normal blocky lack of detail

  • I wish i was commando and kill them all:)))))

  • What can you say... C64 was a feeling. And it was damn good and continues to be :)

I never played Commando through, but seeing this I'm quite surprised that it's pretty short :D

  • Old games are the best but i dont see any bad of new games :)

  • man I felt sp hatrd when I was a kid and played this game. the music is really top notch asw.

  • I remember once when I played score back to hte zero again when reached over 1000000. It was a sort of stupid feeling after that when high score was only about 1000 :D. Commando had maximum score 999999.

  • "Ok, you guys with the blue jumpsuits: I want you to keep crouching and firing rockets in every direction, regardless of whether there is an enemy soldier there." "But sir, isn't that a terrible waste of amunition, as well as a highly hazardous action?" "YOU HAVE YOUR ORDERS!"

  • more Hubbard magic! i quite liked this game, i remember i had one of the early c64s and remember the earlier ones had a better sound chip in so the music didn`t cut out with the sound effects - unless just my memory playing tricks with me....?

  • It is. The only difference between early and later 64s in terms of sound was the ability to play samples (which was completely removed from the newer 8580 SID chips).

Anyway, there is a channel missing from the soundtrack in this vid for some reason. The lead melody is completely absent.

  • Commando game music was my all time favorite c64 tune..

  • i used to be good at it.you are still good! beautiful memories!!!

  • avevo 4 anni qnd ci giocavo...:'(

  • I once clocked Commando 72 consequtive times, tag-teaming with my friend.

The score resets at one million...

  • Great looking and sounding c64 game but SOOOOO easy. I think I won this the 2nd or 3rd time I played it.

  • This game was so much fun!

  • I always sucked ( and blew ) at video games. This one boosted my self esteem though...I would always beat it. I also remember wishing this version was similar to the NES. My parents would never buy me one....

  • damn...these old games had a "special" atmosphere...all of the c64

or maybe i was a kid dunno

  • OMG!

This game was so aweful. Played it all the time!

  • Graphics en pare with some Gameboy color games. Me like.

  • LLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL!! Amazing!!!

  • Ah, I remember those days - After some of those C64 games were done loading, it was already bedtime.

  • This and Platoon were my favorite in the old days,.. mhhh sigh.

  • Dude's got GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMME!!!! :-D

  • There were three sound channels on the c64 but sometimes you lost one if you froze if I remember.

Still, the music kept me fighting on til I completed it and it was really fun.

  • Yes, Kookoon, there's definitely a channel missing on the sound. This Hubbard tune is one of my fave SID tunes.

  • the channel is missing because the SID chip allows 3 sounds at the same time only. So when he picks up something, the sound of the pickup temporally replaces one of the channels.

  • Is there underground bases you can uncover with grenades like on the nes version or no?

  • Gotta love the ending on C-64 ^^

    "Congratulations" or just "The end"

  • "Long"play? :)

  • When I had this game... Mine on occasion would get a glitch. And at the end of the second area, all the enemies would come out of one bunker. LOL and you line yourself below that bunker and just keep firing.

  • This guy's a great player!!

  • One of my favourite game on my C64. but i've always wondered what is the square thing with a motor at the beginning of the second area ? :)

  • was the sound like this? i think not.. i think an audio channel is missing.

  • channels did not allow for grenade / helicopter noises and sound... all the channels were there... you just have a more sophisticated ear than back then.

  • Yes, the channel with the melody is gone.

  • @kookoon No not really, there were only 3 channels on the c64 and in commando, the fx ran at the same channel as the melody of the tune which is why we hardly hear it in this long run.

  • @kookoon c64 only had a limited number of channels, the music used all of them in this game, so when you shot you lost a channel with the shooting sound, just needed that one extra channel to hear rob's brilliant music in all its glory! :-)

  • Was that game really that short? Only about 3 minutes???

  • yeah it was, but the game looped to infinity until you game over but I ended up being bored instead and hit the reset button.

  • wow dude, i presume it wasnt the first time youve played with commando.:) well done:) ive never come so far

  • Childhood memories. Getting all sentimental here. :)

    Wasn't there an airport stage?

  • Possibly the greatest game on the C64 ever? I was so hooked on this.

  • this game is a great adaptation of the movie.

don think a cheat was used, there is only one spot that looks like the sprite of a grey dude contacted our hero on first area.

I could pass this game quick back in the day(after loads of practice)

  • Holy freakin' hell! I just flashbacked to 1986! I played the hell outta this game!!!

  • I used to let my brother play Commando just to hear the music (you see, I wasn't good at shooting games, so I'd normally try to make him play something I could play too)

  • awesom, this was a very good time! it is about 20 years ago.

  • Im still playing this today lol cool

  • i think commando loader music is much more better.only found just one.too bad..

  • loved this on the c64 and xz spectrum

quite dissapointed really now knowing it could be completed in 3 minutes

  • Yeah, I just watched this and never realised it only had 3 small stages. Seemed like forever at the time just to get past stage 2 (to me anyway).

  • In the same year maby one year earlier or later was coming another War Shooter for the C-64 out.

I remember there was a digital Voice output in this game. If you shoot on a soldier the Voice says loud: "OH MY HEAD!!!!". Does anybody know the name of this forbidden game? ???????????

  • I think you mean Beach Head 2

  • Right!!!!!

Thank you for your anserd. it is beach head 2

  • Brilliant memories..Great Vid!..But thats definately not the original music score by Rob Hubbard.Could possibly be a Freeze Frame copy or something.Music sometimes did get corrupted when they were Freeze framed.

  • Number of channels did not allow for weapon noises, engine noises and all music channels. Could that be it?

  • I think you are probably right!.Sounds very much like it.

  • fette skills alter und 1 der besten spiele aufm c64 <3 c64

  • damn son

  • SKILLZ

  • Are you God? ;)

  • one of the biggest c64 songs...

    rob hubbard....

  • played everyday b4 school for a year ,music rocks, best game i ever played w/gernade

  • I´m in love with this game forever!

  • C64 for ever !!! :)

  • Does anyone remember the music of the Entry Name Screen?:')

  • I was growing up playing this game. Fantastic music :)

  • Yeah SUPER!!! grown up with this game :) NOSTALGIA!!

  • ultimate nostalgia

  • Holy crap I forgot about this game, I just saw it on the side links from another C64 video.

  • Wow.... Super Joe had it rough.......

  • Holy crap, I just recently played this in the arcade.

  • one of my favs! great music

  • wicked bassline :)

  • aguanteeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

  • por favorrr que juegazoooooooo! para mi uno de los mejores juegos para commodore 64 lejos! que musica!! era genial=)=)

    pasen y miren mis videos=)saludos

  • Skillz ;-)

  • ha! i remember this game v well!

  • Amiga & ST version look better

  • holy shit, i played game for commodore 64 back around 1989. Fathers pc. i was 5 or 6.

  • This game was nails, music sounds slightly slow? but that could just be me.

The reason why "only half the music is playing" is because the SID chip only had 3 channels of sound, and when the sound fx kick in it takes up channels which are being used for the music.

  • The clock timing of the C64 was tied to the line frequency, so people playing on PAL systems (50Hz) had everything run slightly slower - CPU, gameplay, music, etc, as compared to NTSC systems (60Hz). Commando sounded like this on European C64 - faster on Canadian/American NTSC ones.

  • I´m a European and I´ve never heard Commando sound like this. I have five Commodores, made in Hong Kong, W. Germany and England. The music has

    always sounded fine.

  • Mine sounded like this..

  • Mine sounded like this too... i've bought C64 in Italy... i've never finished the game... too many balls...

  • Why is only half of the music playing? :/ Otherwise a great piece of music...

  • only had 3 sound channels so some music is replace by the sound effects

    i agree awesome music

  • Uggla03: You're absolutely right about the sfx. But I was more thinking about the music on the title screen, and at the very beginning. To me it sounds like the main melody line is off ALL the time (those really high pitched sounds for one). Just compare it to another longplay...

  • yeah thought you meant the game i owned this on my c64 but cannot remember 20 years ago lol

maybe the guy who grabbed it had the setup changed on the emulator i believe the later non chunky c64s has a slight change in the sid chip design

  • Yes, flowerofdissolution- You are correct, the melody voice is not present! I should know as I was listening to the mp3 of this tune in my car today!! ( i have a cd full of c64 sountracks ha ha.) You posted this 8 months ago, so have prolly lost interest by now, but it annnoyed me too lol.

  • Correct, there's definately something missing.

If a lot of people heard the beautiful piece in this watered down version, I can better understand that no more people praise it. It is one of my favorite C64 pieces ever, but not in this version.

  • wow flash back..... thanks

  • i remember playing this on my pal's zx spectrum somewhere in 1988

    the tune is still mindblowing;)

  • c64 classic, thanks for playing

  • I played this one in my childhood. Now I'm tryin' to finish the DOS version.

  • By far one of the best c64 bassline ever. Now THAT was a tune. Aaahh... those were the days!

  • I love this game. Amazing music. Kill kill kill!

  • the good OLD days lol

  • I had both the c64 + spectrum version of this.the c64 one is what 3 levels? and not exactly true to the arcade.. the spectrum version is amazing in comparison, a lot better. try also who dares wins 1 and 2 by alligata and ikari warriors =)

  • best song my ring tone !!!
