  • where did u get your iPhone tripod????

  • Nice vid!

  • howcome facebook doesnt support the iphone's video format? its so annoying i cant upload videos from my iphone to facebook.

  • can you do a DOF with ipod touch 4? can you use filimicpro app to do a Depth of Field?

  • @meinc3 Every camera has a depth of field range, just with tiny lenses like the those of phones/music players you have to get REALLY close to the subject before you start to see the effect.

  • I am searching to buy a stand or a slider, would you recommend any?

  • Is there any Alternative to FiLMiC Pro? it seems like it's not available (anymore?) in the AppStore?!!!

  • Very good video and tips, thanks!

  • I want that iPhone tripod adapter!!

  • Thanks you i like this video but still wats so important about the explorser

  • What slider do you use

  • @MACmySTUFF The one from indisystems

  • i like this! it's like the frugal filmmaker--but the youtube version of it!

  • 4 people are still using Motorola StarTacs

  • Hey Matt, what is that retro camera you were filming with you're iPhone? BTW, AWESOME CHANNEL!

  • 2:12 RØDE !?!??! THATS DANISH!

  • Where i can found the adapter for the iphone 4 for tripod??

    Thanks!

  • @MacertoVideo He made a video about it. Search on his channel GLIF or glif

  • Can you share that wallpaper ?

  • What's the music in the beginning called? Is it in Garageband?

  • Hey Matt, 3 Questions :L im sorry:

    1) Please could you post a link to your wallpaper

    2) i got the geektool weather pic but she didn't show us the script to get the writing underneath like yours, so if you know the script, please could you tell me.

    3) If you have the time, could you make a video going over the motion tracked title ?

    Thankyou :)

  • Great video Matt.

it really is amazing what you can do with and iPhone and iMovie with a bit of imagination.

  • Matt, as always I can't tell you how much the Mac community appreciates you. From high end to low end, to even the gear you have on hand. Thank you for having such a broad focus. -Marilyn

  • @dilboy100 I'M RESPONDING!!!!

I motioned tracked it in After Effects

  • Comment removed

  • @MattsMacintosh Can you please make a tutorial on how to do it?

  • The other cam i see in 2:06 its norwegian because is says "røde" and means "red".

  • @TheDavid151515 The mic on top of the camera is a Rode, but the camera its self is a Canon 60d

  • nice quote at the end "it much more important how you shot then what you shot with"

  • I just filmed and made a music video using my iphone 4... and once I was done... I saw this video...

  • what lens did you use for this video and why did you use it? thanks

  • " iphone doesn't have that much space to be taking videos" Hell yeah it does!

  • im inspired

  • Dang man, you have such a creative mind. I always enjoy everything you put out.

  • There's a guy in Korea who's shooting a whole feature movie on iPhone.

  • How do you take a video from the iPhone Imovie to the iMac Imovie

  • @microscopic789 You're right. I keep meaning to put the cursor highlighter on when I do the screen capture. I'll remember next time.

  • Honestly why go through all that trouble when you can film with your canon??, no editing needed much ,also iphone doesn't have that much space to be taking videos. IPhone doesn't zoom far and that's a big con.

  • @Paliwarrior93 This isn't really for me, its meant to help others that might not have high-end cameras.

  • @MattsMacintosh yea you got a point there.

  • Thanks Matt! I'm downloading FiLMiC Pro now!

  • Why is 24fps better?

  • @pdvloger its not better man, i think its because it looks more cinematografic

  • @pdvloger From what I gather from the web, 24 FPS was 'standardised' in the old days because was ideal combination of smooth motion and the gave the cameraman enough roll of film to shoot with. If they used a higher FPS, they would run out of film faster. Others say that it was the speed where the sound would synch with what was happening on screen. Most films are still shot in 24 FPS because it's what we associate with film and it gives the movie a more 'unreal feeling'. Can anyone correct me?

  • what an amazing app

  • I just came up with a lighting tip, if you don't have a lighting kit. prop up some laps with the shades off a hang up a white bed sheet in front of it.

  • @pinkfloydfannn

    is the method good?

  • @dayananDKZ I'm not sure, i just thought of it off the spot. I'm sure Matt and some other people get what I am saying.

  • @pinkfloydfannn

    hmm alright, but thanks!

  • @dayananDKZ It was just a thought. Though

  • Hey Matt! Great video. I use a Canon SD 1100 IS to make my videos.

  • The two dislikes are people without iPhones

  • Matt, you are damn amazing.

  • Thanks Matt I use my iPod to make vids

  • Everything in your video is how it should be done. Good length, practiced narration, useful tips which are attainable for newbies and experienced users. Super thumbs up! :D

  • whats the song in the beginning?

  • That is an interesting camera you are filming, what kind is it?

  • The app is caled "FiLmiC Pro"

  • @Lingox5 Yep, I've got a link the description

  • I just use a smart cover with an ipad2 to keep it stable, then i edit it with imovie on ipad 2

  • Doesn't any one know a good iPhone tripod I bought one off eBay from china and broke the next day.

  • what was the apps for the video?

perhaps you can put link to the apps in the description

  • @dimsumdimas Done

  • cool video. i love these kinds of vids

  • amen

  • What program did you use for this video to edit?

  • @MaddogTheRobot FCPX

  • Haha wicked!

This begs the question. What frame rate do you record videos in typically?

  • @LOTRzagorath 24FPS

  • This is a really great video. Thanks

  • Would this work on iPod touch 4G

  • @blackberrylover111 Yes, it should.

  • @blackberrylover111 I think these tips are applicable to any camera

  • amazing tips :)

  • What's with 20s of blank screen at the end?

  • @BlenderTom Its for annotation links

  • Did u use fop x

  • I can't afford an iPhone 4!

  • Amazingly useful tips great video thanks!!!

  • Great video as usual matt, i was at the livestream :D and its great to see how it all came together, and i knew that tracking the text would be worth it :D

  • Does the glif work with the iPod touch 4g?

  • i have a glif.. awesome piece of plastic xD

  • Wow thanks Matt what did u use to edit the text effect at the begining?! Is this fcpx or AE editing?!

  • @emkwan The text tracking was AE

  • nice vid :)

  • matt, do you write a script for your videos?

  • @never4getthis Nope.

  • what is the font you used on the text at the beggining? nice vid btw

  • @ipablo16 Myriad

  • Thumbs up if you were in the stream when he edited this

  • Great tips ,, Thanks !!

  • Hello from Romania, Matt!

What is the name of the app you mentioned?

    Regards,

    Marius Cimpoeru

  • @mcimpoeru Filmic Pro

  • @MattsMacintosh Do you shoot flat (low contrast etc.) with your dslr so you have better dynamic range and can color correct/grade better in post?

  • @viljamip Yep. I use the Technicolor picture profile

  • How do you get such a crisp shot of the iPhone screen? Is it a filter that gives you that look? Or is it the 50mm lens?

  • @RickysMacintosh I used the 24-70mm lens for this video, put it's really more about just lighting and focusing.

  • Great tips, i think a lot of people just do not get into it, rather they ponder to much about equipment.

  • Thanks!!!

  • Hey Matt which lenses do you use for filming??

  • @mohitdesh94 24-70mm

  • "The best camera is the one you have on you" -Some Guy

  • How does 24p change the look of the video (Hear this all the time), I always thought it was used to reduce rendering time :P

But this is still a serious question.

  • @MacManLtd Film (ie movies) use 24fps, video uses 30 fps. The difference in how the motion blurs is why some things look "TVish" and some things look "cinematic"

  • @MattsMacintosh This is also the reason films at the cinema last a few minutes longer than when you get the DVD or BluRay, as they speed it up to 25. I'm sure you knew this, just a bit of trivia for the others who read this comment!

  • what was that app you mentioned? FilmecPro?

  • Make à video on how to film with à iPad! Thumbs up so Matt can see this!

  • why would you want it to be in 24 fps rather than 60 fps or even 30?

  • What lens are you using to film this video? Thanks

  • Do you need really good lighting for your videos if you have a DSLR?

  • Awesome video, but what were the name on the pro video editing app to iPhone, you did show.

  • The iPhone is such a great device :) It is a phone, an iPod (but sometimes storage can be low, so you have to compress audio a bit), an apps device, a PDA, and a digital camera and digital camcorder.

I think people underestimate what the iPhone's camera can do... it can even replace some digital cameras on the market! Unfortunately it's not really cheap to get an iPhone, $200 - $300 with a 2 year contract or $650 - $750 unlocked. Also, you can get an iPhone 3GS for $49 with AT&T or Bell.

  • Hey Matt, something I've struggled with: what's the best way to get good audio recording with an iPhone?

  • Hey Matt! Great Video. You video actually inspire me to do all video stuff with just basic equipment like the iPhone. Thanks BUD!!

  • The best camera is the one you have with you. :)

  • "It's much more important how you shoot, than what you shoot with" -Story of my life

  • Very excellent. Loving the dolly moves. Or trucking moves. Either/or they are very smooth, well done.

  • your so pro

  • Great Video Matt.

    Very helpful to many Youtubers.

Thanks for coming by the stream :D

  • NICE. I love these kind of videos. Btw how do you do that kind of tracking with the text? Like have it flow out of an object you captured on video?

  • @natebombdiggitydawg After Effects

  • @natebombdiggitydawg After effects like he said, and key framing the effect in. (

  • @natebombdiggitydawg I bet he traked the homebutton with trackmotion. And since the camera is on a slider, he only needs to track te position, and not the rotation!

  • Good stuff buddy! Do you use a slider for your DSLR? If so, what kind?

  • @TimsTechBlog The Indislider

  • @MattsMacintosh Solid -- thanks for the heads up!

  • @MattsMacintosh What app you mentioned?

  • be careful Matt if ur editing in FCP X it leaves some weird gaps at the end so it can make an automatic black end but ur was to long so use the blade tool to shorten it....

  • @romodrummerjz Did that on purpose to add annotation links.

  • This man is so Creative...(Right Brain)

  • Where did you get the intro music from? I've been hearing it all over the web and I would like to download/purchase it.

  • @ynkno13 It's from Apple loops

  • What's the iPhone App? - I don't know how to spell it.

  • @joshplague Filmic pro

  • @MattsMacintosh sweet, Thanks! I've been tryin to replace the Camera app completely, I was just needing a really good video app

  • Suspenseful ending Matt lol.

  • Haha it was my idea to track the text. Looks great!

  • Good vid

  • Great video as always Matt but what happened to the end of the video?

  • keep doing these videos

also whats your name on vimeo

  • Great video Matt. It truly does not matter what you use to shoot, just what you get out of it.

  • could you please upload it?

  • @MattsMacintosh Hey Matt in the intro at the start where the text "iphone video tips" follows the iphone was that done in after effects or final cut? I've always wanted to know how to do that!

  • @AppChat AE motion tracking

  • @MattsMacintosh Thanks :)

  • hey matt, I actually have pretty much the exact same set up as you do (the 60D and that Rode Mic, minus the focus wheel). Im having trouble using the mic with the camera though. Lately I've been experiencing an alert that will come up while Im shooting saying that movie recording has been stopped automatically. I assumed that I was simply filling the card with the audio added to the visual and the camera had run out of space. Have you had anything like this? Love the videos, keep em coming!

  • Thumbs up if you watched the live stream :-)

  • You took to long to quit your daily job! No matter what you did there, your talent was being wasted. Keep going with the videos!

  • Great Video Matt! As usual!

  • Matt: I have never used iMovie before now, but I just got a new Mac so I now am forced to until I can afford FInal Cut Pro X. Before I was using an older computer with Final Cut Pro 7, which I got used to. The omission in iMovie that is completely hindering me from doing editing is the lack of a proper timecode. I never know exactly how long a clip is in the (what do you call it?) event library or the timeline. For my style of editing it's necessary to know precisely. Any help is appreciated.

  • Thanks, great tips!

  • Excellent! Turned out even better than I was expecting. Had fun watching you edit this.

  • woah

  • is the itouch 4g's camera good ?

  • Whats a good stand for the iPod Touch 4G?

  • @revinriley The iPhone 4 has a better camera. What's the point?

  • @SchneiderStudios For those who can't afford an iPhone 4, and want to use the iPods camera to record videos.

  • thanks matt this really helped me!! :)

  • Great Video Matt! Great tips. I'll have to use some of them!

  • Awesome video.

  • How do you know how far away to put the camera?

  • I watched you make this :)

  • I saw the stream. (I was Zecamant)
