Steve Ditko is criticized for his black and white view of morality. In this criticism, Moore draws a black and white contrast between himself and Ditko.
For a writer, Moore's sense of irony is a bit off.
This man has no class. Seriously, Moore, you wanna talk about being shortsighted? Like how you've burned all your bridges with American publishers? Seriously, how's that working out for you? What a shameless hypocrite. Moore is a write of modest talents, but his ideas are shallow drivel hidden underneath a layer of bullshit so thick that digging into his "works" is usually a wasted effort with little payoff. One story with a clever twist ending does not a genius make.
It's working out fairly well I'd say being that I'm really looking forward to Jerusalem and TLOEG (thank you Top Shelf) more than I would be with Moore doing work for the mainstream publishers, Besides Moore
and Paul Levitz are pretty much incompatable and Chris Staros may hopefully be a better fit
I've seen his house and its really quite nice, he's publishing new work but he can now take his time becuase he has enough money to relax and take his time, and he's also a very intellegent man.
Can you please post a transcription of the song lyrics to "Mr Aa", especially the passage with "he takes a ??? and shaves half ???". Thanks from Fred !!
dikto is not a genius! no one in the industry comes close to moore, no one. ditko is good but moore has more than several block busters under his belt.
ditko's influence was in more than just hits. He helped developed the way comics were shown with panels, and body movement. Little things in design are what made spider man a hit(instead of the more ridiculous approach stan lee almost took).
yeah he basically just hates the fame, i dont know if he's ever given an interview in his entire career. Certainly not in the last couple years if not much more
yeah here's a quote "When I do a job, its not my personality that Im offering the readers but my artwork. Its not what I'm like that counts; its what I did and how well it was done.... I produce a product, a comic art story. Steve Ditko is the brand name".
@GadGades exactly. I maintain that Steve Ditko is one of the most original artists ever. Yes, others have drawn in his style, but whenever he puts pen to paper he creates fluid images with crazy motion and intensity that can never be duplicated with the same level of originality. I'd put him, Winsor McKay, Wally Wood, Jack Cole, Dave McKean, Basil Wolverton, R. Crumb and Eisner (in terms of storytelling) in the category of inimitable artists.
steve ditko is the robert denby of comics, he's so elusive! i think alan resents that no matter who weird he tries to be, he'll never be half as enigmatic as ditko, lol:)
superheroes are very objective but Watchmen challenge that having a hero kill thousands to save millions. I dont know why Wizard magazine kept saying Watchmen help start anti-hero comics with Image most of their characters lack motivation and personal deepness,Wizard never look at DarkKnight Returns or KINGDOM COME OUTLOOK in that heros catch criminals but never go after the source that makes criminals. Its always 1985 the start of anti-hero books.
Do you guys think Alan Moore's contempt for future Hollywood endeavors involving his created material has anything to do with his massive hard-on for Steve Ditko?
I just think it's a bit much that he's not giving his blessings to Zack Snyder. It's a bit understandable considering what Hollywood has done to him in the past, but come on! This guy directed 300! He's bending over backwards to remain true to Moore's works. I can't help but think he's being difficult for no real substantial reason.
I agree. But Frank Miller was the same way with "Sin City", until he actually saw a piece of the finished product. Hopefully, Moore will be the same way. Hopefully, Snyder won't fuck "Watchmen" up.
He is not being difficult, and by your "no real substantial reason" I gather you are rather ignorant on why he always chooses to get his name removed from all the movies based on his work, and his share of the royalties be sent to the artist (in the case of Watchmen, Dave Gibbons).
Watchmen is a superior piece of art, and as such it takes full advantage of the comic book medium, that's why a Watchmen movie could never be as good. No matter who makes it.
Zack Snyder isn't trying to make something as good as the book. He's come out and said that at best, he hopes it to be complimentary to the book, encouraging people to read the book if they dug the movie.
Again, I can understand why he's removed his name from the likes of V for Vendetta and LXG, but to just blankly disassociate himself with ALL future Hollywood projects is a mistake, I think. Zack Snyder is one of the good guys.
I'm following the development of the movie, I'm going to see it, and I will possibly enjoy it. But I fully understand why Alan doesn't want anything to do with them, he has had a lot of bad hollywood experiences (he was sued, for instance). He is simply not interested in hollywood and it's not hard to understand why.
Zack Snyder is young, he has only made two movies (that aren't really brilliant) and he cares way more about aesthetics than story. It's the content I'm worried about.
You know, a person who steals for food and causes his victim to also steal or even KILL for food, I'd say that's WRONG. Nothing in between there. Can't withold any judgment there. People who kill for revenge? Its a case to case basis and even here, there could be cases where you could say its WRONG or RIGHT. THAT's what Mr. A says.

That sounds about right. All that Godlike talent, not a single original character to his name.
The problem with Moore is there is no debate. Moore doesn't argue so much as preach. Only he holds the secrets of the universe, so all praise be unto him. Ditko subscribes to an ego-centric philosophy, yet he's quiet as a lamb. Moore plays the recluse but has managed to build a cult of personality around himself.
You stood your ground well and competently tore Alan Moore a new asshole on the internet. On Youtube no less! A+, and well done. It's not every day I come across such a well-composed bashing on mah intronz.
that may be but watchmen was originally meant to be about the question and the 1st blue beetle but he wasnt allowed to use them so he made new versions of them which allowed him to create them how he wanted. and it actually turned out better than it would of been. and who is the v for vendetta guy based on then if his characters are copied?
dude, steve ditko is a really nice man. I met hime a month ago in manhatten. he wasn the nicest, honest man i ever met. its all bs what they say about him is b.s. mr. ditko is a genius and good human being.
When you boil it all down--he's got a strong case- I think it is his comics that make me nervous- especially the ones he has written. I do think he is a master of comic art and would pay my own airfare to meet him.
no, steve ditko said that in a conversation w/ a friend . alan moore is paraphrasing what he said. it represents his ideology, which i totally agree with.
