  • Hey QkninjaQk, me too. I am so excited. I bought the Scrap4Treasure program. EXCELLENT. My friends were happy to let me haul away there old junk. I spent a weekend pulling the stuff apart. Sent off my stuff and just got a check for $200. I am so pumped. I'd like to communicate with other scrapers. You interested?

  • My question is, why aren't they using silver instead of gold? Silver is more conductive.

  • @chaostroll1267

Main reason: It is more reactive then gold.

Silver tends to react with sulfur and carbon monoxide in the air, which give it the destinctive blackning... this makes an unreliable connection.

  • Just got my check from all of the gold that I got from two old broken computers! $1 woo hoo!

  • good income in third world countries

  • what kind of torch? i have several kinds. thanks

  • @maxinpains

Any Oxy/fuel torch will to. Use small tip so not to burn it.

Also, a heat gun can be used for this purpose, work rather nicely and fast.

  • @indeedItdoes Heat gun? you mean those " industrial" looking Hair Dryer?

  • @maxinpains

Yes. They go much higher in temp' then Hair Dryer and with lower cfm.

  • on the pins you have solder which has Tin and lead, maybe lead. How do you deal with these metals. Aren't they a problem is refining? The Noke book saids gives a method on how to deal with solder and gold. Did have a problem with the solder with this video?

  • @johnpaulbuono

    No sir.

The solder is dissolved by the hot HCl.

In any case, the gold foils are floated away to be dissolved in Aqua Regia.

Any lead that made it through is later precipitated with sulfuric acid

  • @indeedItdoes What do you whit those cpu's left?

    You grind them or what?

  • @9kuuby9

Throw them with your scrap motherboards and sell to the yard.

  • @indeedItdoes How about ceramic ones :d?

  • I know gold is inside the chips. What you are getting are copper.

  • Are you a wizzard ?

  • @iRouRoui

    hehe... maybe... ;-)

  • I just put all my pins and gold looking parts in a beaker of Nitric acid with three times more HCL the let it sit over heat for 30 mins. It looked like preg solution but when I added SMB as it reacted yellow and foamed it never dropped out?

  • Hey indeed I made an update video from gold fingers and gold connectors and CPU pins... Let me know what u think. Thanks and happy new year

  • want to make tons of money check out my blog at pitpure86-anno1777.blogspot.com

  • no one knows that precious metal stuff here i tried i want to sell some recycling factory which pays me can you buy it or may be your company please help me

  • @Mr71seventyone1

I suggest you register to the "gold refining forum" (look it up on google)

and post whatever you have to sell on the "sell and trade" section.

Lots of good and honest folks overthere.

You can also eBay your scrap.

    Good luck. Sam.

  • Nice meth lab

  • hi thanks for your help now if i want to sell my scrap where i can sell help me recycling is really tuff stuff it looks simple but its not sooooo help me

  • @Mr71seventyone1

Try the closest scrap metal yard... shop around to get the best deal.

    Good luck

  • @Mr71seventyone1 ill but it from you e-mail me at takearisk1978@yahoo.com

  • @Mr71seventyone1 let me know what you got and how much

  • @TakeArisk1978 now a days my exams are there mail you later in march end sorry for that by this exam stuff

  • it looks like you are doing it right! use 20 mule team borax as a flux . the gold must boil for an hour ! 20 mule team borax will trap the impurities and other metals. when you pour it into a mold , the brown substance will go to the top. this is now glass . let it cool . then crack the glass! repeat this process twice more. you should get a more refined gold!

  • How do I easily get many CPUs. I have asked around but no one has. And can I get them somewhere for free, because I am a little broke now.

  • @MrError303

Try offering a scrap steel and electronics hoarding in your town...

  • Comment removed

  • very nice and easy video thanks one of the most understandable yet =)

  • how much gold is in 1 cpu.

  • @legendary10001

    Basically, it's a crap shoot.

  • As a Computer Collector the thought of ruining good working parts seems like a Crime , your taking parts away from folks who want to rebuild them , there will be folks in 2056 looking for 1993 computer parts & your robbing from generations not yet even born , I Scrap cans and wire & radiators , but would never scrap a working sound or Video Card or a CPU - it truly is a Sin ! :( QC

  • @Quaaludedude714

Are you for real ? :)

  • @indeedItdoes YEAH of course

  • @Quaaludedude714

Your the type of person who collects computers, puts them in storage units. When you can nologer pay the rent on said unit it goes up for auction.

I'm the type of person who buys said unit and fires up the torch and retrieves the gold which is more vaulable then some depreciated computer from the 90's

  • @Quaaludedude714

In a few years i may need a used hard to get original rad..i wont get it because someone wanted the copper and recycled it....

  • @Quaaludedude714 What are you talking about?! Nobody in their right mind TODAY is looking for 1993 computer parts. They are scrap and aren't useful for anything other than collecting the resources within them. I have working computers from 6 years ago that I take to the shooting range and use as target practice because they are useless and obsolete and it's gratifying to see pieces fly.

  • @rides1naked Hell yea!!!

  • @Quaaludedude714 You could also take this as a positive. If we keep destroying the old obsolete electronics and computers. The ones you save will be more valuable in the end. I honestly couldn't care. But as prices of precious metals go up recycling will be more viable.

  • @Quaaludedude714 Are you serious? I think it is a waste of time but I would not consider it a sin.

  • Might as well use your knowledge and start a meth lab....u will make alot more money

  • @motojoe196 And likely get killed or thrown in jail.

  • hey, can u tell me how much gold working in an individual capacity in my backyard lab i can recover daily on a maximum, another question, if i have 100 kg of scrap CPU and RAM sticks, how much minimum-to-maximum gold i can recover from that

  • @codeXmith2010

    See here:

    tinyurl (dot) com/78536y2

  • Can you tell me if I can separate gold foils from slot connectors or "fingers" with HCl?

    Thank you

  • @AlexanderTomich

    Yes, you sure can.

Also, a tuch of 3% H2O2 or bubbling air (with fish tank pump) in it will hasten things up.

    Good luck.

    Sam

  • @indeedItdoes Sorry for bothering you, but I have one more question. What would happen if I put RAM fingers directly in AR?

  • poor poor cpus

  • Wow i had no idea the gold pins were only gold foiled. Thats pretty clever to be honest.

  • Or do what Steve does in minecraft but ok

  • you can make some bling for your teef

  • i just removed the gold from some ram chips and,the pins from a processor and it is magnetic

  • modern gold hunt

  • just use normal water to boil it..??!!

  • @zamakyo

    Huh ?

  • I have 10kg CPUs,how much gold is that?

  • you are genius...tq

  • all you need is 500 chips and a tank of gas and hours of time to make 40 bucks in gold...hell of a deal

  • @beachbummm69

You are correct, yields are low and your comment is definitely in place.

But i also consider that some folks take gold recycling and refining as a hobby rather then a source of profit.

We are all big boys and can decide for ourselves if somthing is worth doing or not.

    Thanks for your comment.

    Sam

  • @indeedItdoes I always appreciate means to help launch other endeavors by using what is already at hand, so yes- a bit of ingenuity helps me afford to do other creative things.

  • Respond to this video... Where would someone get HCL- and what may I ask is it?

  • @robinrwilsonsauls

    Any hardware store...

Ask for muriatic acid / cement cleaner.

  • @indeedItdoes yeah unfortunatly that produces cyanide

  • @beachbummm69 I do it as a hobby just because it’s an interesting process. I started about 2 months ago with some scrap jewelry and some old computers that I had lying around. I even distilled my own nitric acid from scratch. I know it's not much yield but I never expected to make money off of it.

  • @beachbummm69

It's called ' Gold Fever' ... and yes, it is a sickness that once caught is almost impossible to get rid off.

  • @beachbummm69 um.... that lookes well over an ounce, a nice little check of 1600 to 1700 dollars dickhead

  • @beachbummm69 Say that to my bank account

  • @beachbummm69 LOL is it that bad? Not worth my time at all then.

  • Hi IndeedItdoes

I have found now more than 15 ceramics CPU's :-)

and I'm waiting for procedure of ceramics CPU :-)

    Thank you for everything :-)

  • How much does a average 5$ CPU have gold in it?

  • who can u sell the gold to after making it?

  • @brsild

    Try your local jewelers/refineries.

    Good luck.

  • Try a fresnel lens on the pins Sam, it costs 0 to run one. You can heat all the pins at once and just smack the chip on the side of a plastic bucket and move on to the next one. The sun does have to be out though.

  • @flownder28

    NOW THAT"S A COOL IDEA :)

  • could i strip roled gold (gold filled) jewelry using this process?

  • @Shavenhamster

Theoretically yes, but practically, it will take very long time for the HCl to penetrate the gold layer.

Leaching of base metals from gold filled is usually done with nitric acid.

Like all the chemical used, Nitric acid and its fumes are toxic, PLEASE read the MSDS and take precautions before doing anything with it.

    Regards, Sam.

  • Is this method cheaper Than using Aqua Regia like in another video? /watch?v=OU9WmlXgvuE is the video.

  • @MrError303

Well... it will sure save you on chemicals.

Knowing the dynamics of AR and metals dissolution is not easy. Hands on experience is needed to to successfully use the method described in your link.

My advice to you is not to use AR for plated pins, at least not while you are in the learning curve....

    Good luck, Sam

  • I have a question: How can you take out the gold foil from the flask?

And is the gold foil ready to smelt after that or do you need to refine it?

    Please help me.

  • @MrError303

You just pour the foils out with the liquid.

then collect it in a filter or let everything settle for a day or so and decant.

the foils will definatly have some impurities (copper, nickel, iron, tin, lead) clinging on to them and a refining step is needed if high putiry is your goal.

Otherwise, yes, you could just smelt and send to the refinery.

    Good luck, Sam

  • easiest method i have seen!

  • Hey man I don't understand the method, I am not english... what I need to do after heated the CPUs? Is process complete? Is that pure gold on that metal bowl??? Heating ram's pins it will work same?

The method with HCL is only a sample to remove gold from the connector's pins?

Thanks I hope you help me

  • @kayzen76

Gold plated pins are removed with heat (torch) from the CPU's body.

The HCl boil later is to seperate the base metals from the gold plating, it essentially etching the base metals from under the gold and allows you to separate them.

  • @indeedItdoes Thank you for your reply, is a bit clearer now, I probably will ask you some more question in the other videos :) because I am not a chemic and I don't know how to work with acid and similar. Thumbs up!

  • @kayzen76

    Sure, No problem.

Before you start, read on safety issues regarding dealing with abids and chemicals rections.

  • Hey man I don't understand the method, I am not english... what I need to do after heated the CPUs?

What kind of liquid are on the bottle, and after that how you can separate gold from scrap metal?

Thanks I hope you help me

  • hmmmm..... thanks.

  • Nice work

    But I have a questions

Is Hydrochloric acid HCL used only without additions?

What about Ceramic CPU Is it the same way?

And I like the background music :-)

  • Tanks @tenoverten

Yes HCl is added ad it is... you can help it leach with a bit of H2O2 additions... no need for much.

ceramic CPUs legs will not seperate with heat and needs to be leached complete... hopfully, in the near future i'll add the procedure for ceramics...

    Good luck

  • Great Video I Love Them , I Have A Question , So All You Need It The Torch Melt It And Throw It In A Pan And Let It Harden To A Nugget Or What , How Do I Do This , Thanks I Subscribed

  • @xYounGCinema

    Hi, thnaks.

The purpose of usinga torch is to heat the solder that hold's the pins to the cpu, just enough to soften the solder to a degree so the pin will come loose while you tap it.

    Nothing actually get melted.

  • How many grams of gold you get in only one cpu? 0.10 grams?

  • @smiltroy

Oh... i wish it was 0.1 per cpu...

This batch (30-33 fiber cpu's) have yielded 0.2 grams.

The newer they are, the less gold in (and on) them.

  • Great videos, keep them coming...... How much gold can we expect to get out of a pound of cpu pins?

  • those are old ceramic CPUs arn't they

  • @xxeu4riaxx Hi

No Sir, i only showed fiber ones, ceramic CPU's will not seperate from pins that easily.

There is a different process for those, hopefully in the near future I'll upload my way of doing them.

  • Can I use a propane torch?

  • @panterajoey

    Sure.

That's what i used in the video, just added little O2 to avoid the soot.

  • Very nice Sam.

  • @metalicmario

    Thanks man :)

btw, I have a big job heading your way in few days :P

  • Ok what I mean is should I do torch like u did or what? I have 15 metal topped fiber processors. Its almost same what u had. But it has thick metal on back of fiber processors. Maybe I should take picture and send it to u and u get idea? But we are talking about gold plate, from what I understand gold plate doesnt have much gold in it.

  • @2009landscape

You actually got them in an OK price, comparing to other deals i've seen going on on these type cpu...

Yes, it's gold plated and yes, it does take a lot of them to reach meaningful amount of gold.

I personally never buy only the fiber cpu, they are just part of my e-scrap stream. when it builds up to several pounds, i process them as time allows...

you can process them as per the article (see link above) Instead of torch, you can use heat gun, it will not burn plastics.

  • @indeedItdoes ok how do I get metal part out of fiber I am sure I am right.. I need get that metal piece off the fiber before I can use heat gun. What would u say metal part on top? I think its lead maybe?

  • @indeedItdoes ok how do I get metal part out of fiber I am sure I am right.. I need get that metal piece off the fiber before I can use heat gun. What would u say metal part on top? I think its lead maybe? Oh, how do u dont buy them but still get the fiber cpu? I would likke to learn that.

  • @2009landscape You can remove them before or after the removal of pins or not remove them at all if you want to, but remember that some maybe gold plated inside.

they are usually a high tungsten/copper or stainless steel.

What i meant to say is, that i don't buy them individually on eBay or other sources, they come in them stream of e-scrap that i process (sometimes i pay for the e-scrap and sometimes i don't)

  • cool! I have 15 metal topped fiber processors, any suggest?

  • @2009landscape

sorry, i did not understand the question...

  • I'm glad you posted this. I would have never thought about using the blow torch in order to extricate the pins from the board.

  • @Begbucks

Your welcome, to me it's the way to go on small scale.

    Good luck.

    Sam
