  • Goddamn...I shed a tear at the end....

  • if someone asked me what the point of music was, i'd show them this. pure raw real emotion.

  • This song should be a hymn. Nick cave and the Badseeds, they are all Gods, they are so cool because they are just themselves there is no thought to what they do or why they do it., they do what they do because they feel it, if you like it then you are fortunate to have found them when so much dross tries to hide them from us

  • This is the best live version of this song by far.

  • @gokcal All of them are. It depends on the state of mind you're in.

  • Every time I see the camera pan away from Cave like that, I can't help but imagine horns growing out of his head.

  • Yes, This is Actually The Greatest Song Ever! Nick makes me not affraid to die! and I also and done with the Looks of disbelief...

  • One of my favourite versions....

    29th September can't come soon enough <3

  • @dragonash1993 I TOO,MAY HAVE TO AGREE.

THE BEST...MUSHROOMS AND NICK CAVE ON PIANO!I SWEAR!LIFE IS INCOMPLETE WITHOUT.

  • the face of jesus in my soup, hahaha! do it boy!

  • The best version of this song, THANK YOU!

  • i luv that cash covers cave... cash-cave ... i luv this word ..... cave cash..... the song ist one greatest pop songs i ve ever heard

  • super ......maestro

  • I prefer the cash-version....even if he was the one who covered it....

  • lets me shiver - just awesome

  • awesome music!

  • Actually Nick Cave wrote this song, and Johnny Cash covered it...

  • u are wrong mate...Mercy seat is Nick's song,,,Cash covered it later:)

  • God,your're a dumb cunt

  • watch his face,

he looks so tortured and broken.

one of the best mercy seats!!

  • cool, best !!

  • because thats all he can give us from his soul-scarring

  • Vegism, not been funny but your a cunt. Nick Cave is a beautful songwriter, you can find so much more beauty in the darker side of life.

So fuck off and watch and listen to summat you do like

  • Vegism has been trolling on ever single PJ Harvey video dissing her. He/She is just a miserable cunt with nothing better to do than insult good music because they have no taste

  • Yeah i was looking up some stuff on PJ Haveys latest album and there was a comment from s/he slagging her off, what a loser! Love your user name by the way, those sinister dinner deals!

  • hahahahahah.

  • Comment removed

  • i think you have no idea about music. poor.

  • i pity anyone who hasn't listened to nick cave.

  • dude, either you're being sarcastic or you have way too much time on your hands to be consistently commenting on stuff you hate.

  • what a tool..

  • do you just troll youtube for music you don't like so you can tell everyone...what a tool!!

  • Every morning ;) I'm glad someone finally noticed!

  • Brilliant. Brilliant. BRILLIANT.

  • they use this song in dustin dollins volcom lets live vid

  • It's like the mercy seat is really waiting for him!

  • it is. as it is for us all.

  • love this song

  • Wow... what a performance. Look at his eyes! It's like he is going insane.

  • he's going into a serious ecstatic trance!

  • OH MY GOD!!! This is... It's the most emotional version of this song I've ever heard... Maybe because of this piano but... So brilliant...

  • Guys like Nick Cave make the piano sound a lot more badass than any guitar.

  • @thegorillasnake the piano is the supreme instrument. Just ask any classical pianist. Plus, the harder you hit the keys doesn't make it sound like shit , like it does with a guitar. Far more expressive as a result.

  • @thegorillasnake Just like Mr. Waits...

    They´re both brilliant.

  • It's sad that Nick Cave isn't more well known in the states

  • Or Canada

  • this is,in my opinion, the best performance of the song.....gives me the chills every time...

  • awe inspiring

  • it is definitely the most passionate version that i have heard of this song, truely breath taking.

  • God I love this song, it's probably my favorite one by Nick Cave.

  • I agree with faceofjesusinmysoup (great name by the way!)that this actually is the best song written ans song at this exact point in time..

  • after watching this video for the umpteenth time, I've come to the conclusion that this is the best version of the song. As you can tell from my username, it's my favourite song!

  • This is probably the greatest song ever written

  • this song has always held my attention whatever version I'm hearing but this one is outstanding

  • this version... speechless

  • best version ever.............what a passion!!!!

  • What a powerful version. He's a great singer and extraordinary songwriter.

  • I think this was at the Big Top Luna Park in Sydney, great version, love his passion...

  • It's a pity the video veered away toward the end. But an otherwise perfect capture of a quite perfect performance of an amazing song.

  • This is possibly the best song I've ever heard.

  • @ lednerg

    du hast so verdammt recht

    unzählige wunderschöne versionen dieses liedes,..

    aber diese sticht heraus

  • This is the best version of this song on YouTube. No doubt at all.

  • wonderful version!

  • i heard this song in sooo many versions, this is the most emotional yet

    love the song

  • Adore the man. Genius.

  • every cave fan should read his novel, "and the ass saw the angel."

  • Beutiful convict ballad by a ragged stranger call Nick Who found his own way, shuffling his through the fog...Nick has touched the hand of God!

  • great version.HAIL!!

  • I know many versions of this song. But this is awesome and intense...I'm just speechless. There is so much passion. Nick Cave is just incredible.

  • I disagree with comment below. Though not the greatest version of this song, Nick Cave has probably made 1,000 different versions of this song which caused Cash to acknowledge its greatness by covering it in the first place. The ending crescendo is a really cool way of orchestrating a truly classic song.

  • u idiot

  • Something beautiful.

  • always smokin'

  • Masterpiece to the utmost!.

  • moustache?

    at least that's what I'm told,. .

  • hee hee.. :P

  • One of the best versions I've heard. Put's the late great Cash back into perspective.

  • just incredible!

  • This is probably the most powerful song I've seen. Ever. Nick Cave truly is one of the most wonderful men on the face of the planet.

  • oh, and I don't think he is using make-up. he's only dying his hair and .. caring about his funny mustache lately. hehe.

  • He looks a right muppet with that moustache.

  • where/when is this? do you know?

  • I love this. So powerful. Nick Cave is so wonderful.

  • what an version of this brilliant song

  • Best songwriter! Hands down.

  • I love him forever!

  • I wonder how can a guy be this sad but sexy at the same time?? he's so hot as much as he is dark inside. Damn...

  • I don't think he wears makeup. His eyes are very dark, naturally. He doesn't strike me as the type who would care enough to go through the effort of makeup.

  • well, im not certain if he used make-up back then but if you look at him and his music now i guess you could think that he and the singer of the birthday party are two complete different people.

  • Is he wearing black make-up to look "darker"?

  • The greates singer EVER !!

  • yes, 22caroline, he is a god, I saw him last week, first time solo, it was great. Thank you for this excellent version of mercy seat.
