I've heard that there are exceptions to owning a raccoon as a pet... Such as if you rescue it as a baby, I think you're allowed to keep it until adulthood and then you have to release it.

thank you for your reply. you are so sweet. Could you please tell me has your racoon ever biten you? Two years ago I found a baby racoon, I took care him, he became big and strong, but he would always groul at me, . I tried to train him to use litter box, but he would always go anywhere in the room to poop and pee. No matter how much I wanted him in my life, still he was big and strong enough to go to the wild. I miss my lovely racoon so much, It is sad he would not let me touch him.
Hi! Outlaw has bitten me hard enough to draw blood about three times. Only when there was food involved and I was trying to get it away from him. The trick to raising a raccoon is getting one before it's eyes are open and also getting them spayed or neutered. I think he box trained so well because he was raised with a kitten and she taught him how! I'm sorry your raccoon didn't work out. Raccoons don't make good pets, but I spend a huge amount of time with him so he's very sweet!
I am not sure. the thing is we live in a country, and we do have other raccoons in the territory. so, it is very hard if my specific raccoon is the one among them or not. They look alike so much. every time when I speak to people who love animals, my soul is in the heaven.
my dear, AMEN to that. that is my the only hope that may be one day I will reunite with my babies (fourlegged) and death would be not such a bad thing after all. I have saved 35 cats and 15 dogs 1 bunny, 1 duck 17 birds, spend money to fix them, took care them and brought them back to love and life. I found a good home for 15 of them, but the rest of them are old at least 10 to 15 years old. I am their the only hope. my life is devoted to them. they come first before anything else in this world.
totally i admire ur big responsability im the same to i have 16 cats ive had probably like 10 dogs knows how many birds, hamsters, turtles, fishes, but mostly the cats i find them on the streets and take them to my house and feed them and let them live there till there older

i hate when people get them and don't take care of them. letting them free is one thing. but locking them away in a house where there is nothing to eat, or anything to hunt is just fucked up
I heard that chocolate is poison for animals. dont you think that raccoon might get poisoned because of the chocolate cake? Although my heart smiles to see wonderful people like you who love animals. God bless you.
How wise is it to have an obese raccoon sleeping behind your washer and dryer, grabbing onto the electrical cords of both machines? What if he wants to snack, or gnaw in his sleep?? I mean it looks like the fellah likes to eat...anything.
Hi! Not a dumb question at all. Raccoons in many areas of the United States are considered pests and are trapped and killed. In fact, if you catch one and don't kill it you will get a ticket. In some parts of Florida there are protected species of raccoons. Outlaw would be considered a pest where I live but I LOVE raccoons and think they are amazing!
it is actually very dangerous for him to do that. He will get electrecuted mine did... I really think you should just get a nice box with a blanket they love that mine loved an old sofa with towels and pillows it was adorable
You know, Outlaw did just that and chewed the tv cord in half. He got quite the shock! He hasn't chewed a cord since, but I agree with you totally and moved everything so he cannot get behind the washer or dryer anymore. I would hate to have something happen to him, he is my baby! :)
thanks for that reply i have always been curious.(they are pretty cute)
Possums are a pest in aus but we're not allowed to kill them, they have to be relocated so they can use their nav skills to get back in record time i guess) in NZ they are a sport lol.
Not always... If a bear is having a bad day ans is pissed off, it might attack anything nearby, for no reason. Usually bears show their agression towards trees, etc. by destroying them, but if another animal or human is nearby, it might attack it.
lol this one time i was over at my friend house and his dad left a beer can half full outside and a raccoon was drinking it while we were playing soccer and it died of alcohol poisoning
That might well be the cutest damn thing I have ever seen in my life. Interestingly, that is certainly the nastiest cake I've ever seen in my life. It looks like a brick covered in Crisco. I love how he goes to his place behind the washer! That's amazing!

Raccoon Rock! But this guy needs Weigh Watchers. What does he weigh? We had one. It is difficult to put a huge raccoon who can get into every cupboard and even the fridge on a diet. Try some of those baby locks for cupboards. Course cake on the table is fair game.
while i love these videos and think he is adorable, your chances are roughly 90% that suddenly, one day, he will decide you are a threat for some reason, and attack you. when he does, racoons are EXTREMELY damaging and in cases of other animals, lethal.
google "racoon behavior" or "racoons as pets" read it, ok?
oh, btw, behind the washer, cute, but 50-50 chance he'll electrocute himself or start fire in your house by chewing on the electric cords.
Dangerous?! You have never had a raccoon have you? Where do you get your statistics? You will find many people on YouTube have pet raccoons. Not one of them has been attacked and our other pets usually get along well with raccoons. One of the people who contacted me had their raccoon until it passed at 15 year of age. Wild raccoons are a different story.
I have read up on raccoons and spoken with knowledgeable park rangers...raccoons are ultimately wild animals, not meant for personal entertainment. A friend of mine had a raccoon...raised it herself and was badly bitten one day for 'no reason at all'. Raccoons are known to have ringworm; are the owners going to be mindful and take their 'pet' to the vet for a check-up? Giving junk food to any animal is not right, this is negligent. Please be careful folks with what you bring into your house!
I agree with the fact that you have to be very careful about what you bring into your house. I did tons of research before making this decision, and I DO NOT feed him junk food ever unless he sneaks and gets into it. Not very often thank goodness! He is not here for just "entertainment". He is a part of our family, just like the dogs, cats and horses. I also do take him to the vet and worm him regularly.
No offense, but cats and dogs are "wild" animals ultimately to. I never understood the "domesticate" term, animals are animals. Some just happen to have more attitude and bite than others.
Domesticated animals are A LOT diff. then wild ones. They are almost completely dependent on humans for food and shelter.Put a chihuahua out in the wild and see how "wild" it is.
Humans still have natural instincts does that make us wild animals? And what do you mean only when raised with humans?Domesticated animals are raised by humans always. If you go out in the woods you aren't likely to see a "wild" cow or "wild" pit bull because they have been domesticated over hundreds of years and now live with and among humans in our societies.Dogs and other domesticated animals are slowly changing to adapt to the way of living that us humans have adapted.
I think what he is saying is that any animal, regardless of whether or not it's species is domesticated or not, will grow up and behave based on how it's surroundings affect it. They have raised many "wild" animals in zoos that are now completely lazy and dependent on human care.
Sorry folks, but this is a wild animal, not a child! I hope the cake you were letting him devour did not have sugar and milk...these are not part of a raccoon's diet! And why is an animal crawling over your counters where you keep dishes and prep your own food? ICK!!! What if he climbs on top of a stove one day? Please be careful!
It's a PET! They NAMED it. Unless you have had one as a pet then you don't know much about them. They are very clean. Why be careful? They only strike out if they are threatened. They don't just do it for fun. Maybe read about them?
I have a Big Fat one Coming in My Mother's kitchen in Lower Manhattan NYC, I keep a Dog there, Akita/Sheep, And a 2 Cats. There's Pandamonium when the Raccoon Shows up.
I can't take him to my Apt, I have a Beagle there,And another mutt, Plus a Cat.
Any Suggestions? If I call the ASPCA, They'll Send him to the City Shelter and have him Destroyed.
He's Fat And real Friendly, Does any one want him? Let me Know?
Never heard of one committing suicide. Maybe accidentally falling off of something. An apartment probably would be hard to keep a raccoon in. They are pretty destructive. If you're renting you might have to remodel the whole place! :) I wouldn't change having Outlaw in our lives for anything or anyone! Raccoons are awesome!
yea im scared that they might fall out of windows, i dunno, and i own my apartment, so not a rent problem lol... i want one!! would they live in brazil?? i mean, hot weather?
Yes, animals may get diabetes (my dog, adopted from sanctuary, appeared to have diabetes).
And no: raccoons are not really in the bear family (raccoons rather related to Panda, especially the Red Panda. Also: coati South America. Character quite different.
Yes, he is house trained. He is definitely NOT like any other pet. He understands many commands and words, but he is a wild animal. It is his way or the highway! :) He is an amazing animal, I have great respect for him. Raccoons really do not make good pets. Make sure you do lots of research before considering getting one. If you do decide to get one though, it will change your life! :) In a good way!
cute video! How long have you had him? he's cute. Must have had him since he was really small. If not they can get mean. I hope you enjoy him, looks like fun. lol, love it
Hi! We've had Outlaw since he was one week old. His mom got killed and some friends and I tried to save the babies. Outlaw is the only one who made it. We love him so much, he is part of the family!
He's so adorable! Someone said chocolate poisons raccoons---may be, but we had a pet raccoon, William, and every night before my dad would "tuck him in", he'd give William a couple of miniature Reese's Cups, or a mini Butterfinger. William died shortly before his 19th birthday.
Thanks for posting this video, and I hope you enjoy your coon for many, many years to come. They are amazing animals.
lol, i love how he just started grabbing at the cake and the crumbs so quickly when you took it away from him, it was soooo cute. he's a cute little chubby butt :D
I miss having a raccoon I had one when I was younger her name was Ethel. Though she wasn't as fat as your guy so cute though I wish I could get another one.

I lived with humans for three months in 1982 in the home counties. The home comforts that this creature enjoys are second to none.
The call of the woodland was too much for me and I went to live at Mingosyard.

Hamsasatya 3 years ago
I agree with the fact that you have to be very careful about what you bring into your house. I did tons of research before making this decision, and I DO NOT feed him junk food ever unless he sneaks and gets into it. Not very often thank goodness! He is not here for just "entertainment". He is a part of our family, just like the dogs, cats and horses. I also do take him to the vet and worm him regularly.
Horsegirrl 3 years ago
No offense, but cats and dogs are "wild" animals ultimately to. I never understood the "domesticate" term, animals are animals. Some just happen to have more attitude and bite than others.
jellyjam10534 3 years ago
Domesticated animals are A LOT diff. then wild ones. They are almost completely dependent on humans for food and shelter.Put a chihuahua out in the wild and see how "wild" it is.
Magerrs 3 years ago 4
"Domesticated animals are A LOT diff. then wild ones."
Animals are animals. Ones that get along better with humans, are called: domesticated. It's just a term, nothing more.
Only when raised with humans are they dependent; however, still have instincts.
"Put a chihuahua out in the wild and see how "wild" it is."
Using that logic, bunnies must not be wild either, because they fall prey to many carnivores.
jellyjam10534 3 years ago
Humans still have natural instincts does that make us wild animals? And what do you mean only when raised with humans?Domesticated animals are raised by humans always. If you go out in the woods you aren't likely to see a "wild" cow or "wild" pit bull because they have been domesticated over hundreds of years and now live with and among humans in our societies.Dogs and other domesticated animals are slowly changing to adapt to the way of living that us humans have adapted.
ra1n8ow 3 years ago 3
I think what he is saying is that any animal, regardless of whether or not it's species is domesticated or not, will grow up and behave based on how it's surroundings affect it. They have raised many "wild" animals in zoos that are now completely lazy and dependent on human care.
VBackseatRomeoV 3 years ago
Humans have raised lazy humans who are completely lazy and dependent on human care. See a pattern developing?.
aenima187 3 years ago
Sorry folks, but this is a wild animal, not a child! I hope the cake you were letting him devour did not have sugar and milk...these are not part of a raccoon's diet! And why is an animal crawling over your counters where you keep dishes and prep your own food? ICK!!! What if he climbs on top of a stove one day? Please be careful!
Hamsasatya 3 years ago

Roger59Dodge 3 years ago
i want but i am from brazil =/
and do they have those suicidal stuff that i should not keep him in apartments?? i mean high floors?
mmonnerat 3 years ago
Never heard of one committing suicide. Maybe accidentally falling off of something. An apartment probably would be hard to keep a raccoon in. They are pretty destructive. If you're renting you might have to remodel the whole place! :) I wouldn't change having Outlaw in our lives for anything or anyone! Raccoons are awesome!
Horsegirrl 3 years ago
yea im scared that they might fall out of windows, i dunno, and i own my apartment, so not a rent problem lol... i want one!! would they live in brazil?? i mean, hot weather?
mmonnerat 3 years ago
Hot weather no problem for raccoon, but being kept in city/apartment (or cage) certainly IS.
Apart from that: a raccoon is intelligent and therefore needs attention and companionship, boredom is killing for them.

ScaryCreepyMonster87 3 years ago
@ ScaryCreepyMonster87 @ EnemyRCA
Yes, animals may get diabetes (my dog, adopted from sanctuary, appeared to have diabetes).
And no: raccoons are not really in the bear family (raccoons rather related to Panda, especially the Red Panda. Also: coati South America. Character quite different.

is he house trained........does he behave as any other pet understands when spoken to etc...just curious....he's such a cutie....I want one..awhhh!
rdenisedb 3 years ago
Yes, he is house trained. He is definitely NOT like any other pet. He understands many commands and words, but he is a wild animal. It is his way or the highway! :) He is an amazing animal, I have great respect for him. Raccoons really do not make good pets. Make sure you do lots of research before considering getting one. If you do decide to get one though, it will change your life! :) In a good way!
Horsegirrl 3 years ago
just to let you know I totally agree with you.
(I love raccoons, feel privileged raccoons part of my household for 30 years or so.
'Housetraining' never problem, in the sense of 'wc'. A dog will need some serious toilet-training, even a baby-raccoon won't need any explanation ...

I love this Raccoon so much, That, I'm considering selling my place in NYC.
And, take him with me. And, some of his stray cat friends too.
He's Fat, And real Funny, Very Humoruos to see the 2 cats and the raccoon together.

Hi! We've had Outlaw since he was one week old. His mom got killed and some friends and I tried to save the babies. Outlaw is the only one who made it. We love him so much, he is part of the family!

lmaaaoo so CUTE! :D "dont hey me! i might stink but i am handsome" (licks paws) ..it remembers its own birthday 2
yakuzablood 3 years ago
He's so adorable! Someone said chocolate poisons raccoons---may be, but we had a pet raccoon, William, and every night before my dad would "tuck him in", he'd give William a couple of miniature Reese's Cups, or a mini Butterfinger. William died shortly before his 19th birthday.
Thanks for posting this video, and I hope you enjoy your coon for many, many years to come. They are amazing animals.
