Oh gosh I would let Carissa take my wave anyday. :]
I'm glassing mine and hope to actually surf it this weekend. The only bad thing was that its 5'11 and im 5'9 but I made it a bit wide to compensate for the lack of length.
@coolness312 like my reply to jordyboy056, everyone out there were all friends and were telling the kids to go since we all wanted to see how these kids do on an alaia board for the first time. everyone was having a great time!
@jordyboy056 yes they were... But everyone who was out that day were all friends so they were telling the kids to go because we were all curious to see how these kids do on a Alaia board.
This guy gave me his alaia the other day bcs he owed me a board its 5'8 and im 5'9 WAY too small right? i couldn't even get that thing to paddel and stay underneath me. What's a recommended size for 5'9 170?
@only1lozano i'm not expert of Alaia at all but i think we had a 7' board that day. i think you are right, 5'8" seems small. we felt like the 7' board wasn't floating us enough trying for the first time.
you might want to talk to someone at a shop who carries Alaia board since they should have better idea of what size board might be good for you.
@clockguy2 ha ha, don't be so hard on yourself. first time trying, i couldn't catch any waves too. These kids are all great surfers and in WAY better shape than me. ha ha.
@elderlyschool i think you should try one before you get one. it was really hard to ride because it's so different from regular surfboards. these kids did well because they are all amazing surfers but you should've seen me trying the alaia board. ha ha
@elderlyschool i don't know any place who rents alaia board... i was lucky enough to borrow one from my friend's shop. you should ask some shops around. i'm sure someone will let you use one!
the only bad thing about em is that when you show up people assume you raided granddad's garage lmao. mine's 7'11" and wil be shaping out a 10 footer in the next two weeks or less. great vid, it's nice to see others having fun on alaias since I know of nobody in my area that rides em.
@bababacardi it kindda does since there's no skegs on the board.
i think it can be dangerous but i think more people get hurt from just walking... ha ha.
alaia board's little weird cuz it really doesn't float you like a regular surfboard. you need to paddle and get some speed going to be really floating on it.
i hope you get to make and try your own alaia board, it's super fun to play with!

my alaia isn't big enough to float my big butt. I never could get up on it no matter how hard I tried.

I think it behaves like a skimboard am I wrong?
question: isn´t it too dangerous to get hit with that ..knife?
I want one, since we don´t have this kind of wood around I try some other wood, those seem to float a lot

nice! I'm shaping mine tonight, glued up my wood yesterday. Does having that alaia give you a drop in pass or something???
DenverSantaBarbara 2 years ago 2
sweet! good luck.
ha ha i don't think it'll give you a pass... but usually people let you go cuz they are interested and want to see how it rides.

Cool vid guys, I'm thinking of getting an alaia, is it worth it? Peace.

it's fun but it's like learning to surf all over again.
if you can try one first, you should so you know how it is and see if you even like it.
