Last I checked, the abolition of slavery, the claiming of women's rights, the civil rights movement, were not done by asking "pretty please" and "could you maybe consider"; we FOUGHT. We dug in and did all we could. Did we ask the Nazi's to please give bigger bunks, instead of fighting and resisting the powers that be? Were we peaceful and asking for kinder treatment before death? Violence can only be perpetrated against sentient creatures. Violence cannot be committed against inanimate objects.
Continue using non-violent means to oppose animal cruelty. Education is your most powerful tool. If you tire of the slow and steady progress achieved through educating the world about animal abuse and take violent or illegal action as an expedient, you will lose the moral high ground and you will alienate all reasonable people. Document the abuse and spread the word.
such anger, what do you owe the ferocity of your response? Can't you tolerate a differing opinion? It's attitudes like that that keep people from moving foward. It's attacks like yours that rewind progress and make hate.
Hi: I do not accept that animals have rights, but am willing to talk as soon as the animals can communicate with humans in an intelligent manner. Philosophically only humans have rights. Law, language and libraries will be needed by the animal world. ahhmm, animals should further stop attacking humans. Many species have come into and gone out of existence, mainly because the animals could not survive on their own ablilities. Sorry bout that.
If you can't communicate deeply and meaningfully with animals other than human, I feel sorry for you. Perhaps your communication with your fellow humans is also limited to the sphere of intelligence & rationality? Anhtropocentrist/patriarchal philosophies always seem to over-emphasize (hu)Man intelligence, (hu)Man rationality (which they attribute to White Adult Human Male) as an authority to dominate non-(hu)Man forms of life - our cousins in flesh & spirit.
I do share your doubt about animal "rights", since the concept implies human authority to grant those rights. Instead, I favor the concept of animal liberation, or something like collective Liberation of animals, human and non-human alike - based on love and empathy, not rationality.
Your statement that "animals should further stop attacking humans" is plain absurd. Organic matter on this planet is practically a constant. Think, then, about marine life dying off, going down to ZERO, at a time when human population reaches 7-8-9-10 billion. Or think about a bear spotted in a city. Is the bear the intruder here, or is it rather that the bear came to dwell in the city that has invaded its ancient home forest?
Regarding the relations between human and non-human animals in general, you should definitely read the essay "From Trust to Domination" by Tim Ingold, in his book "Perception of the Environment: Essays in Livelihood, Dwelling and Skill" (2000).
