Mega Man didn't die, ProtoMan rescued him.

And Wily DID create Zero.

In Mega Man 2: The Power Battles(Arcade), in Bass' ending, you see Wily talking about a new robot he's creating, and the game shows you a dark picture of Zero.

Wily says that it will take some time to complete his robot(Zero), and his "other project". That "other project" must be the virus Zero had, before the virus transferred itself to Sigma, as you see in a flashback in X4.

So Wily started the whole mess in the X series.

I don't get it. On that panel that appears on the beginning of the Game Ending you can note Willy is starting/finishing the Bass Project or something like that. But Bass already appears on Megaman 7. Anyway...I think the history of Megaman and Bass comes after Megaman 9.

The reason why Bass does not appear here because he's being upgraded by Dr.Wily during the events of Megaman 9. The events in "Megaman and Bass" game took after the events of Megaman 8. During Capcom's development stage for "Megaman and Bass" it was named "Megaman 8.5".

One thing i m SURE about: the megaman and X story will NEVER be revealed. Every game since x3 didnt tell u anything new, not a bit. Only the same old rumors, over and over and over again, that zero and the virus r wilys work etc. but NOTHING new. Every title ever since started without a memory and in the ending nothing new was said. Hell, i dont even believe that after MMX8 sigma wont be seen again.
