Absolutely beautiful. Love that they took so much time to make it look hot. Palm is now officially the travolta of smartphones. Comeback accomplished.
it has a psychological effect on the end user, I think. the first time *I* saw the OS X "flying welcomes" video, I immediately thought, wow, apple really goes all out and pays attention to every minute detail.
i nearly teared, it was as if the computer is telling me, welcome to the Mac, your long distraught frustrating days with windows are over.
lolol...! i couldn't help laughing at this...So True!!...you watching and first use "intro" video...Mmmmh maybe that means...let me see..!!mmm "YOU JUST BOUGHT IT"...
Why does it show an image of the phone on your phone? To reaffirm the fact that what you are seeing the user do is something you can actually do on your phone.
And why have a one minute boot video? To reaffirm the purchase decision, so as to create a bonding experience. Marketing 101.
Why does a phone need a first-boot video? Especially one that has an image of the phone, *on* the phone. This is pretty tacky, actually, if you ask me.
It's a short clip on a brief tour. What this phone can do for you. It's not that useless if you really think about it. Doesn't hurt to give users a few bit of pointers, especially to those who don't RTFM. ;)
They put phone inside the phone to show the difference between a demo and real apps. You dont want users to tap furiously on things that are part of your clip and expcet action.
i'm looking forward to the day i see that video in real life!!

I just love the awesome lens flares.

The lens flare light thing appears on the Pre's screen when you touch an area to give you feedback on the touch.

Video = looks kewl but not sure the real utility / point of it, UI samples in said video = 1999 called and wants their web page UI look back.

If you think the UI is 1999 then you're a fool.

Sweet! Great job Palm! This is comparable to the Leopard intro video.

The majority of the video is flying through mountains. Um, thanks, but that doesn't tell me much about your product.
sapridyne 2 years ago
Why does it need to tell you about the product? If you're seeing the video, you presumably already bought the Pre.
Those flying multilingual "Welcome" messages in OS X don't tell you about the product, either.
RedBall75 2 years ago 3
It's a brief intro on how to navigate between apps on the new phone you just bought. It explains by showing, instead of by telling.

FANTASTIC! I also liked their first commercial but agree that they should release something similar to this on TV as well...
vara411 2 years ago 3
I just watched the Palm Pre commercial on Facebook... and I personally think THIS would have made a better first commercial.
joshh347 2 years ago 4
They need to use this as the commercial instead of that crap they went all the way to China to make... Atleast it shows what the phone can do.

Agreed, very tacky. Also not sure why this video needs to be a minute long.
Way too gaudy. I know palm is trying to rip off Apple wholesale as much as they can but Pre is not really working for me.

Very pretty indeed and does a good job of showing off how to use it (in basic terms).
Why would they show an image of the phone I'm holding ON the phone though? Weird.
ErikVeland 2 years ago
Yeah they could have shown the same thing without the phone being visible.
wwwluckyro 2 years ago
I think they wanted to show some gestures that include pressing part of the phone, outside of the screen border.
betsyweber08 2 years ago 2
You're right. I guess it was a tough decision for them on what to do. They were probably expecting to hear complains on this matter.
