  • For something denouncing vapid consumerism, this thing surely wastes a whole lot of fucking time saying the same thing over and over, like some kind of advertiz- OH SNAP.

  • Notice how shops and impulse buys are nothing but sugar, fat and salt. DON'T BUY THAT!

  • you know... i think the young people today... have no future...

  • I feel the power of these large, multinational corporations when they lobby their pet politicians to shut down food stamp offices in my town.

  • "I think another point that needs to be addressed is the idea that the elite or owning class own the means by which hegemonic ideology are dissiminated to a populous that internalizes this as natural. In other words, the means by which we expand the frame work of our perception of reality are manufactured by the class that own not only the social institutions that are responsible for the creation hegemony but the content of it." - True. What's new? Has it EVER been otherwise?

  • 5:15..for fans!

  • This video contains graphic doll nudity.

  • thats disgusting.

  • omg... whoever buys those dolls is a very very lonely person.

    it's so empty...

  • Boy i cant wait until my realdoll arrives!! Im gonna practise my markmanship with my winchester on her..

  • So what's important is identifying the root cause of this, and what that comes down to is our misguided pursuit of happiness through materialism. "If only I had a bigger TV, nicer car, bigger home, louder stereo, etc, I could be happy." What is considered to give our lives value in America has become so perverted over the years we've forgot about what truly gives our lives meaning and value, and that is connectedness. Our relationship with friends and family is really what matters in the end.

  • @0murdock0 Right, but also connecttedness to our environnment and so called "nature". The destruction of nature outside and natural life on which we all basically depend on is a major obstacle in regaining consciousness of the real world that surrounds us. Were materialize a world around us we rebuild something which is already there. But in this vain and useless reconstruction this world as an artefact we have to destroy all natural obstacles before inside and outside of us..

  • I think this is more about how disconnected we've become in our current society. You can complain about how abhorrent this appears to be, but what it comes down to is the fact that there is demand for this sort of thing. So why is there demand for this?.. because there is a pocket of our society that is unable to achieve any form of intimate relationship, which forces them seek certain unhealthy behavior like visiting a prostitute, or buying a love doll.

  • who is speaking at the beginning?

  • The founder of Adbusters.

  • The single greatest and most inspiring documentary i have ever seen!

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again: For the trivial stuff like say, cat food, we have 140 different brands to choose from. Same thing for cars, cigarettes, dish soap, shampoo, underwear, lighting fixtures, dozens and dozens of choices. But for the really important stuff like oh, a presidential election, we get 2 choices. 2 shitty choices out of the 300,000,000 plus people who live in the united States. If that doesn't smack of a rigged system nothing does. Wake up. Stop participating.

  • In other words : We have alot of CHOICE, but we have NO FUCKING FREEDOM!

  • Why do they use this re-re-re-repeat technique? its annoying. Poorly made film, albeit full with good idea.

  • Agreed totally, be capitalist, not consumist.

  • You just don't understand anything about it

  • How come i dont?

  • I'll have to agree with you there. Its like one long intro. An argument or some stats might be nice.

I'll now wait to be slated as a fascist/corporatist by my fellow anti-capitalists.

  • I'm sure you'll be :)

Just look at my comment, which received only minuses just for speaking my mind.

  • @Asthfghl i think that the filmmaker uses that to engraine/ingraine (sp?) the message in our heads more. the message being, just according to speculation, that consumerism has distanced ourselves from real relationships. makes me glad that i have a real relationship with my family! not a lot of families have that, and, thus, they go out and spend into oblivion.

  • @corazon5601

Assuming that the public needs something repeated a dozen times to them in order to ingrain it into their heads is, to say the least, insulting to the very public itself. It shows distrust in the public's capacity to get the point by saying it just once. Or it could be just me imagining things. ;)

  • @corazon5601 I know what his point is, mine is that the tricks he's using are lame and annoying.

  • @Asthfghl

i thought i was the only one. It's extremely fucking annoying. I'm on edge with every interview like

"oh shit he just said something sort of intellgent i hope they don't repeat it 36 times now... shit they already started repeating it."

  • Yea...The dolls have nothing to do with consumerism. Some people have a fetish on dolls,do you see a lot of adds for sex dolls?

  • The dolls part are just an example of "variety", as is plainly stated in audio...

  • I think they are trying to show how seperated we are from reality. You can BUY a $7000.00 lover in this world. How messed up is that?

  • Beyond comprehension for those of us who are able to see the forest for all the trees.

  • i want one of those dolls. the one with the big tits.

  • The key sentence here is "produce meaning".. if you think that the things you buy give meaning to your existence, you are easy prey... and this is very easy, since in order to create a necessity, you need very little -ask any publicist.. so taking what you buy as a tool to achieve what you need, is not as easy or unequivocal as one might think.

  • The guy showing the dummies (to the dummies) looks so sad, no wonder...

  • OOOH-AAAH!

  • First few seconds were too funny. brilliant editing work.

  • I think another point that needs to be addressed is the idea that the elite or owning class own the means by which hegemonic ideology are dissiminated to a populous that internalizes this as natural. In other words, the means by which we expand the frame work of our perception of reality are manufactured by the class that own not only the social institutions that are responsible for the creation hegemony but the content of it.

  • This could be the best vid on youtube. The sex doll thing was pretty funny in a way. We really are screwed... Even if youre not into the newest gizmo, most people buy cars, houses, new clothes, electronics, because they feel its natural & expected. To totally drop out & not donate "labor-consumer dollars-taxes" to the system, that is a big stand against this way of life. But you still have to spread the word. Stop wasting your life 4 material wealth. Big waste of time.

  • Why are most people fooled into the consumerism craze? Don't they have the choice to turn off their TVs or change the channels? The problem is they are EVERYWHERE, from the beginning of our life, constantly sending us propaganda to become zombies. Only a shrinking minority of people are able to overcome such heavy lifelong psychological bombardment.

  • The way to escape the consumerism society is to see everything you buy as a tool you need. If you see the things you buy as something you NEED instead of something you ENJOY, you get out of it easily.

Sadly it's an affair of common sense and common sense is not that common...

  • And it is ok that the fundamental property of the system is to exploit people who "don't have common sense"?

  • I think satanism bears the ethos of capitalism par excellence. Ironically, its misguided conception of 'human nature' derives from Christianity. But hey, who brought the concept of Satan into these forests if not Christian missionaries?

  • So you are advocating what? A faschist system that forces people to not buy things?

It is amazing how those who prone (I.E. want to enforce) a return to nature are so aghast about capitalism. Capitalism is THE LAW OF NATURE! Like any groups of animals out there, the most able survive and the unfit dies. This includes not only individuals and products.

We are, in fact, the very tribe Mr. Zerzan preach a return to. The only difference is the technology between our work and our food.

  • The unfit sure dont die in our culture. They wouldnt be able to buy anything.

  • It's called welfare and it bring you nowhere. Look at any country in Africa. The West is pumping money in the area for the last quarter of the century and it is still a hell hole.

  • the sex dolls part was the best

  • The fact that we fall for the 30 second television spots, show's that we as a society really can't think for ourselves. Which is sad.

  • Beginning part of the video is only relevant
