  • Great vide!! Hey, stefox2003, I'm so jealous at you guys heading up to Whitby nxt August.. The wife and myself had a week there in Summer 2008 and it was the bestest holiday ever - the food, the pubs, the little old house we rented, in fact everything. And the video just convinced us that we'll be going back.

  • Thanks for your comment, enjoy your next trip to Whitby!:)

  • Thank you very much for sharing this. It brings back memories, I went to Whitby once, on a one-day trip, when I was an Erasmus student in England. Beautiful country.

  • I've lived in Whitby for the past couple of years, just wish I'd made the move sooner! It's great! I agree about the parking, it's really annoying when you have to park miles away from your home. On balance though, I can live with that!

  • Thanks for your comment, it must be difficult to plan your day to day life there in the Summer but, like you said it has it's compensations!:)

  • yeh im sure if i didnt live ther i would appreciate its beauty more but its just everyday things to me lol

  • ha whitby im sure you guys think its a nice place but its boring if u live ther like me thers nowt 2 do lol

  • Thanks for your comment, we enjoyed living there but, yes I am not sure I could live there!:)

  • I love going on the boat trips at Whitby. It's like £2 for 20 mins. The only downside of going to Whitby for me is parking! Stress filled nightmare, especially during summer!

  • Thanks for your comment, I have only been there off season so no trouble parking for me!:)

  • It's a shame these places are losing their fishing industries and have to rely on tourism. They lose their 'authenticity' too. I like Whitby and the surrounding area though. Did you go in the 'Dracula Experience'. I didn't. I bet it's a bit tacky. Your girlfriend is really sweet and i wish you both all the best. I thought you seemed ok until i read you worked in advertising and media. Now i'm not so sure. ONLY JOKING . bestwishes

  • Haha we are not ALL blood suckers (well, some of them are!) Seriously though I wanted to go inside but Dominika preferred not to!:)

  • Nice set of vids. I went to Whitby about 20 years ago on a bird-watdhing holiday that used Whitby as a base. We stayed in a lovely old house next to the abbey. I remember those steps and i wouldn't fancy going up and down them now! I kinda misjudged the holiday company. i thought it would be mainly younger people and we would spend the evenings drinking etc. They turned out to all be older (old fogeys, i thought), strict Christians and almost all teetotallers! I made the best of it and it was ok

  • Thanks for the tale, I have always enjoyed my visits there and there seems to be an awful lot of Goths there, seems to fit in with the jet jewellery!:)

  • The Goth thing is because of the Dracula literary connection. Bram Stoker lived in the town for a while (there is a blue plaque). He was said to have been "inspired" to write his gothic fantasy whilst sitting in the churchyard of St. Mary's. Count Dracula arrives in the UK in Whitby. So it has become a goth pilgrim site ! There were loads there when I was on holiday and despite their appearance they were friendly and good-natured. And not one of them sank his/her teeth into me neck.

  • Thanks Tony, it does all add to Whitby's character, although Goths look scary at times it is just a fashion statement!:)

  • Wow, that was a great trip with you!

    Thank you both!!!

    Roeleke :-)

  • Thanks for your lovely comment!:)

  • haha im on that vid, in the fish shop.. hahaha...

  • Really, that is so cool!:)

  • I'm from Whitby. Now live in Hong Kong. Thanks, nice memories. Especially a Cooplands curd tart!

  • You are very welcome and thanks for your comment, I bet Hong Kong is an amazing place to live!:)

  • Why would anyone ever want to vistit Filey...? I mean really? Gods only nowhere!...Still better than Scarborough I suppose. Mind ya anywhere is better than that mistake of a hole!

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • oi! i just moved to scarborough! .... and yes. you are right :-/

  • Did you go to Filey?

  • No, unfortunately we were only there for a couple of days. I hope to go back again next near!:)

  • hello ajdpadbury i went to whitby sea view caravan park a few times as a kid on a family holiday now at the tender age of 37 lol.

i dont know if you have seen this place not sure if its in whitby abby or scarborough in nearby but have you ever seen a barber shop on top of the barber shop is a gun shop or the other way round if you have seen it is it still there or is it somthing eles now? in advance thanks for your reply whatever your reply maybe.

  • Hi, I don't recall seeing that, I was probably too busy looking at the sea! I haven't been to Scarborough in years:)

  • lovely place

  • It is lovely, thanks for your comment:)

  • My pleasure :)

  • Excellent little series! Those shots of the ocean overlooking the houses were terrific, and that footage of the road towards the end was like visual poetry...

  • Thanks Andy, we hoped to do the area justice!:)

  • yeah they are lobster pots lol

  • Thanks, I thought they might be!:)

  • i live in whitby WHOOOOO!

  • You are very lucky!:)

  • yeah i live there

    its boaring

only good thing is the fish n chips

  • I agree, I grew up in a small town in Suffolk and could not wait to grow up and move! But Whitby is nice to visit on holiday:)

  • Excellent stuff. Going to Whitby in November for a few nights. It is like a ghost town during the week and better as the dog can go on the beach. Lovely place and would love to live there. Fantastic video old boy.

  • Thanks for the comment, I went in November a few years back, I like the dark nights and the rough seas, have a great time!:)

  • No worries for the comment. Are you a regular visitor to Whitby or as my little cousin calls it Wippy? Fantastic places to cleanse the soul I think. Fresh sea air and fish and chips all round. Also some great holiday lets out there. Really nice people too.

  • Very nice video. Brings back nice memories. I was last there in August 2000. They were making a film of "Possession" with Gwyneth Paltrow at the time. Church Street has been dressed to make it look 19th century. Five days of filming for about 5 seconds in the film ! And I saw Mick Fleetwood in the Duke of York and later with his dog in The Dolphin.

  • Thanks for commenting and I am glad it bought back memories for you, I have visited a lot over the years and it does not change, which is the reason I keep going back!:)

  • To do whitby ya first walk up Roseberry Topping at Great Ayton>then over the moor to captain cook monument > then whitby.

Quick beer in a pub on the front.

Fish n Chips in Magpie Cafe.

For best view in Whitby stay at (new) Old Smoke house cottages at the foot of the Abbey on the harbour front.

    Seen em in Hoseasons

  • Sounds like a good tip, thanks:)

  • 199 steps, i have lived here all my life lol.

  • whitby is sh**t i no coz i live there and the main reason y is because all of the fu**ing tourists who cum heare i wish you would all fu**k off i carnt even walk down the fu**ing street because whitby is not even big enought for us locals never mind all the ba**ards who cum heare.

  • Did you type in Whitby and this video came up? What is to stop your family, friends and employer (who would employ you I don't know!) doing the same? I hope your name is an alias, because if anyone from your school, family or work reconise you and see your swearing and failure even to spell basic words then it would be interesting to see the result.

  • ask anyone who lives here they will tell you the same, its shit, we pay tourist prices, its a very expensive place to live. and then on top of everything no matter were you go you get stuck behind tourists who walk like snails.

  • Move. There is an easy answer to that. So the traders do not want the tourist pound then? Where would you be without it?

  • rather happy tbh.

  • My last name is Whitby. I typed it in seeing what would come up. I am from Southampton, NY though. In the USA.

  • Whitby is a good name! I hope you get to visit your placename one day, it is beautiful!:)

  • Beautiful place. So full of characture

  • True! Thanks for your comment:)

  • Ha... I used to live here.

  • Nice place!:))

  • Whitby is that where Richard Whiteley is from, I miss him, Countdown was filmed in Yorkshire and my fav soap Emmerdale filmed in Yorkshire dales from last video. Me and parents are off to Co Clare, cliffs of moher and Aran islands later this this week in the car, taken lappy, 8mm camcorder with me. weather permitting.

Footage to be uploaded on both channels

    nite nite or good morning/afternoon.

    James

  • Have a nice time, I look forward to seeing the footage! We have Dominika's mother and brother staying with us for a month, we took them to London yesterday and they were really excited! I will edit the video when they have gone back:)

  • Thanks I think we will be going tomorrow or Wednesday and thats the plan to take footage. I plan on doing some kind of Diary vlog with laptop cam and have signed up for hotspots so might be able to get internet access. 3 days is a long time away from the Tubes, imagine how much further behind I will be, still have not watched your eurovision special or the Pigeons, its may isn't it.

  • Thanks for your nice comment, I hope you do get to visit Whitby one day:)

  • thanks for the video.

whitby is wonderful, i have been to whitby 3 times before.

i lived in ENGLAND for 3 years.

    thanks.. john from the USA

  • Hi John, thanks for your nice comment, Whitby is a favourite place of mine to visit!:)

  • this looks nothing like whitby is this ontario whitby cuz i live here and it looks nothing like tht

  • I went there! Pickering! and 0:27 u may see a lighthouse on the pier. i went to the top

  • Thanks for your comment, it is a nice place to visit:)

  • You have to be careful in Whitby. There are several werewolves that live on the North Yorkshire Moors & they often come into the town during the Winter & early Spring nights. I was chased by two of them last week but I managed to escape up a drainpipe.

  • Wow, I would be interested to see if anyone else has had a similar experience!:)

  • It's true, there are three werewolves in Whitby. Their names are Jennifer, Martin & Graham.

  • What a great location. I wish I could visit there. I love hills and cobblestone. Little did I know, though...that there are Elvis slot machines and Mc Donalds in England!

I hope the USA exports other, better things as well. :>??

  • Oh yes, you can't go far without bumping in to a KFC, Ben and Jerrys or a Burger King! But that is the price of progress!:)

  • there is a mcdonalds in the majority of countries in the world my dear

  • To scrumpyjackflash:

I'm aware of Mc Donald's infiltration into China, Russia and probably even Bombay....with a branch likely to open soon on Mars.

But by Gawd - I never could have imagined Brits allowing this American atrocity onto your shores.

Were you asleep at the wheel or what?!

You should have grabbed your muskets or at least picketed that Mc Ronald invasion at all costs.

At this rate Prince William might be wearing gangsta-rap clothes at his Coronation.

    :>)

  • Stunning little place. I just got back from a few days camping in Scarb. And visited Whitby yesterday. And today on the way back to Scotland. Defo be back. Great video.

  • Thanks, and I am glad you had a good time there! I haven't been to Scarborough for years, I must do that:)

  • Whitby is a wonderful place! I want to get into a ship if I watch that ship. The pie looks delicious!

  • Thanks! Although I could not tempt Dominika to go on a ship, the pie was indeed delicious!:)

  • Whitby looks gorgeous. !!

It's fun to do some 'virtual travel'...

  • Thanks, Lisa! You can drive up to the top but some of the best views are half way up!:)

  • Whitby looks very quaint Anthony.... a wee bit like Trumpton - Chigley or Camberwickgreen ? : )

I bet Nikka hasnt heard of any of those famous little villages , eh Anthony ; )

    Billy.....

  • I have just asked her and she didn't know them! They did get a lot of our old shows dubbed in to Polish when she was young and Poland was still in the grip of communism, Postman Pat was a favourite of hers! Nice to hear from you, Billy!:)

  • Love that beautiful harbor with the ships. That was a nice series Anthony. It was well worth the journey! The pie is gone by now. Yummy!
