  • Just like the stock originals. I had the thing at 110 mph once and could steer with one finger. Its amazingly stable at speed

  • what size tires are you running?

  • @insanity4x4team Stockish 245 75 R16

  • @jeeplaredo2004 that's what i was thinking of putting on my wj with 2" bb to try to maintain good handling with no death wobble because i travel at highway speeds a lot and don't want to compromise the handling. how does the bb handle.

  • gotta hit 6 rpms with it. cant tell how it sounds from 2.. but hell im a muscle car enthusiast. enthusyest.. enthusiest.. fuck it, i like seein shit goin fast

  • yea man thumbs up to your mods and do it yourself and wat not, but it does seem a bit on the slow side considering your heavy mods..im a lil skeptical bc all I see is a CAI and hear an exhaust cutout but no cam lope of aftermarket cam..? cammin does require more than jus lifters and a cam also...adds to the skepticism

  • it was pretty slow in that 0-60 dont you think?

  • @andytwon91 It is. Its elevation that kills ya. ive had it lower and its a alot better.

  • hmm.. suprisingly (given this is youtube) i havent seen any of these kinds of comparisions, but im gonna put this out there anyway.. i dont think the idea was to build a vette eater out of a grand cherokee.. extra power is always fun to play with if ya got it.. but, im curious to know how that cam affected off road ability.. i'm sure the factory setup was better for low end grunt where ide assume you would need it offroading. especially with an auto trans... im lovin that jeep btw, looks great!

  • @WheresMyXR8 Thanks man. i appreciate it. i guess to me it added better throttle response but at the elevation im not sure if any of my stuff added noticeable power improvements. this video is old and ive changed some things around on it. mostly cosmetic but installed a real muffler thats fully welded. to answer your comment its still the same off road. though in 4 hi its never been awesome at being quick to respond at slow speeds. thats where 4lo comes in. ha ha

  • maybe on older cars, but with all the computer stuff on modern ones i'm sure it matters. I don't know though.

  • nice

  • sounds like my dads 04 dodge ram 2500 with the cummins great sound if i had a jeep i would cam it just like that.

  • @joeldude76 thanks man!!

  • @jeeplaredo2004

I'd smoke it despite all of your mods.

  • Thanks for sharing. I have an 97 xj sport. Was thinking of putting a cam in cat back exhaust. I think the elevation hurts you plus i'm not so sure having a hollow cat is good....I think you need some back pressure. I've driven both and the performance is night and day difference in the XJ 's compared to the Grands. I think mine will do 0 to 60 in about 8 or 9 seconds. Just surprising the difference a little weight makes eh?

  • @jaayzen

back pressure is a myth the best exhaust is no exhaust.

  • do you think you could do me a favor and unplug the fan and check the ignition to see if you get a check engine light? I'm trying to trouble shoot my fan never coming on! I've tested the fan itself and it works, the temp sensor seems to be ok, the fan relay is fine, so next I'm checking to see if there is some messed up wiring. If you could unplug it that would be great! It's located on the left side of the fanbox!

  • you should try topping the revs....i believe you'll get better acceleration.

I suggest you do some mods to the valves, intake and exhaust ducts in the head too....your cam is asking for more gasoline but you haven't "cleared" the way for more gas intake nor exhaust.

  • ok so from start to finish how much of a pain in the ass was it and did u actually notice any gains in power

  • @hsp692 Well it is a bit tricky keeping timing right, which we had to have a dealer adjust the timing after the install. and at my elevation i didnt notice alot but did some, maybe not real noticable if your not real intune with it. the main reason i did mine is that my lifters needed replaced so i did the cam while i was there. Its not a real great upgrade for all the time spent on it.

  • did you do ur cam or did u have people do it for u? im gonna get the mopar purple performance cam and wanted to kno if its possible to do it myself without pulling the engine

  • @hsp692 I did it myself in a few days. I just had to pull the head but not the engine.

  • @jeeplaredo2004 just to let you know the comp cams are some of the worst for jeeps 505 makes a much better cam and makes full kits that match unlike comp. Just letting you know if you make another motor i chouse the stage 2 for my 4.6 stoker and i built it myself.

  • bitch il take a pic of the weight on the door 94 explorer limited weighs 5100 lbs and i promise i would outrun your cherokee and if i didnt i have somethin else for you

  • i have a 94 explorer that im bout to cam and its faster than that with a k&n and a chip and it weighs 5100 lbs

  • @fishermankory ur a dumbass, a 1994 for explorer weighs 4,000 pounds you dumbfuck and the 4WD weighs even less at 3800 pounds

  • were u flooring it when u did ur 0-60? it seemed really slow... i have a 95 grand cherokee with the 4.0 and all i have for engine mods in an upgraded ignition system and platinum plus spark plugs and mine seems like it would b way faster then urs.

and yes i no u have alot of extras taggin along on it but still it just seemed really sluggish for being cammed and everything

  • @jeepinit32 yes it was floored. it is slow but the elevation is hurting it to. plus its amazing how much wind resistance the lights and such cause, i took them off a while back and its alot better!

  • is that the 260H cam from compcam? thats the only one i can seem to find and also. do i need to do any kind of valvetrain upgrades? like roller rockers, long rocker arms, etc etc or did you just drop it in and you where good. the cam is going into a 1994 jeep wrangler 4.0 and didnt know if i had to do anything else to the engine

  • @tmaxxmonster2 im pretty sure its the Xtreme 4x4™, X4250H-13 Great Torque & Smooth Idle for Fuel Injected part number 68-232-4. All i did was replace the lifters with them comp cam. the lifters were also comp cam. its recomended to do lifters sense they wear to match the cam lobes sp if you get new cam to already worn lifters so its asking for trouble. plus mine were clicking. other than that, everything else is stock.

  • @tmaxxmonster2 everything else inside the engine is stock is stock

  • which comp cams shaft did you get?

  • @oxoMiniMeoxo its on there website. its the only one they make for the fuel injected 4.0l six cylinders

  • @jeeplaredo2004 i found that but for some reason it say only for jeeps up to 1997?

  • @oxoMiniMeoxo yeah thats right. you have to call them and tell them the year its for if its past 1997 and they will custom grind one cause the cams a bit different for the H.O 4.0s in the Wjs and newer jeeps

  • very nice! how did you tune your jeep with the added cam?

  • @sk8anddsm I didn't have to tune it. We had the dealer fine tune the timing when we installed the cam. I would like to get a way to flash the cpu now

  • as someone who owns a 4.0 jeep and wants to modify it, i respect your car

  • It should be fine actually, but to each his own.

  • why only rev to 4500?

  • @JDMGTP you know..im not sure why they only shift there. the specs on them say they redline at 5000 but all the jeeps ive ever seen only shift at 4500 to 4600 rpms

  • @jeeplaredo2004 you need to get a computer tune in order to change those

  • @JDMGTP I could with my programmer but i found out its where the tranny is best to shift at. any higher and the tranny may start haveing issues

  • @JDMGTP 4.0 arent very high revving. they are made for low-end torque. the gauge cluster makes it look like it should go higher because it is out of an Overland. which has the 4.7L H.O V8 and does rev higher

  • @Scibbyz8999GRC true, but my wife's stock cammed 4.0 would rev to 5K no problem, I would expect a cam to rev higher, that's all.

  • @JDMGTP i agree. and it should rev higher. i believe it doenst though based on the tranny and what rpms are best for it.

  • I LOVE IT MAN haha i got a 99 wj laredo its black and its hella clean im hoppin to do some upgrades to the engine like that and as well as some exterior upgrades but nothin lyk this haha cuz mine is rwd and that wudnt m8k sense lol orr mayb ill just trade it in and get myself a 2004 overland? Lol

  • @Calimustang86 Hey thanks man...yeah the H.O. Overland would be an awsome rig!

  • @Calimustang86 yeah man the v8 h.o. is a hella fast. it does a 0-60 in the mid 6 second range. I have the exact same car you have with the inline 6 and i got the 0-60 time down to 7.5 seconds with no mods. Check out my video

  • I wonder how that setup would work on my '99 XJ Limited??? :) I bet it would do better because it's a smaller/lighter-weight vehicle..

  • @Sarcasticscum probably pretty good with the lighter body

  • @jeeplaredo2004

Haha yea, I've already ordered a Doug Thorley split-header for it, so I can run true dual exhaust. Next on my list is an K&N Air Filter Kit and I'm gonna call Comp Cams to see what I need. One step at a time I guess.

  • @Sarcasticscum sweet man! be sure to post a video when your done and let me know!

  • @jeeplaredo2004

    Will do!

  • where did you get your camshaft at?

  • @willcraigle CompCams , its the only one for fuel injection

  • @jeeplaredo2004 do you remember which model it was?

  • @drippinblood28 which model was what again?

  • @jeeplaredo2004 which model the comp cams were and what they primarily did because i know all cams have a specific range in which they work best for

  • @drippinblood28 oh got ya..i dont know the model but its the only one under the amc jeep engine for fuel injection..the rest of the cams are for carbs only. its says in the title "for fuel injection"

  • i was going to say something didnt seem right with your 0-60. I love your car and I am a 4.0 fan as well

  • @willcraigle yeah at higher elevations it hurts it

  • I love the unique sound of a 4.0 with an intake. Sounds great.

  • @sideburns2009 Thanks!!

  • Your Jeep sounds awesome. I have to learn more about this cam..

  • @MiStaVP05 Hey thanks man. Yeah the cam just made it a bit louder but kept the same note. it was a dynomax turbo s muffler and not cat. its the only comp cam that Comp Cams makes for fuel injected jeeps and its really nice.

  • What type of 0-60 tuner did u use? to time ur 0-60 run? looks awsome...

  • @Mustange500 hey man..its the G-Tech pro SS...its an amazing little unit. I custom mounted mne with the window mount to my dash.

  • @jeeplaredo2004 nice... I might have to get one, whenever I get the money

  • Hey, i have an 04 WJ as well. Its the 4.0 Special edition... I noticed you changed out the guages and I would be careful because the I6 isn't meant to have the RPMs much above 6K thats where the Redline is on the I6 guages... Just be careful and don't blow the engine... Other than that nice Jeep I like the look!

  • @moffitt121 Hey man. Thanks for your comment. I was worried to when i put them in but then realized the computer will shift it no matter what the gauges show but they do read accurately. it took getting use to to have it shifting before the redline on the new gauges. Its well worth it if u can find a set at a junkyard.

  • Cash for Clunkers Limited? I never looked but I'm guessing their must be alot of Jeep parts in junkyards thanks to the cash for clunkers program

  • Nice rig and setup I have the same one only its a 01, so you wish you got the 4.7H.O. I have a 4.0 and when I had it in 4WD in December and Feb. it was pretty gutless when I had passengers with me. it does well in the snow but has no power.

  • @640101vh hey thanks for the comment. yeah i do and dont wish it was the H.O. it would be fun power but i love the strait six reliability. plus i think it would be cool to build a 4.0 that was just as fast. I think the WJ are set up for comfort and not towing or power so i think the engines got power but is losing it all in the gearing an drivetrain. my next mod will be somethin with the tranny and gears probably. you have any vids of your jeep?

  • @jeeplaredo2004 actually no, I just got it back from the shop, was in there for 6 weeks. had to rebuild the Tranny and get a new fuel pump, were pretty expensive repairs, I was planning on adding a few mods, but after spending alot of money the repairs, I'll probably hold of alittle while. most of the time it has enouth power to satisfy me,I think they are/were great motors in Wranglers and Cherokees but the weight of the Grand Cherokees takes performance away. Is your gauge cluster from a

  • @640101vh yeah my gauges were a limited or overland. the junkyard is a great place to get parts. i took two front powered and heated black leather seats to replace my clothe ones for hundred dollars and they look nearly new!!

  • @IROCwarriorAMC88 Hey! thanks man. i appreciate it! yeah i love these jeeps. there a great rig!

  • Looks good sounds great too man, making me miss mine pretty hard core,

I drove mine up to canada a year ago, got to play with it on the old stomping grounds, survived all winter up there, second ice/sleet storm in the south, i flip it, landed on the wheels and STILL drove it home... kept my brother, my dog and myself safe, going to pick up something i can get real silly with, probably a XJ or a ZJ... WJ's are just way to expensive to put stupid big lifts on just so i can stuff 35's under it...

  • Did you intall a thermostat on your jeep. In the video of yours i noticed how fast it was. other than elevation and drag what differences is yours to mine

  • @jeeplaredo2004, I have installed a 160 Degree Thermostat, and there is a significant performance increase with one in certain conditions; when the radiator has air flowing thru IE, you just stopped at a light, you'll FEEL a real world 10hp when you get on it, now this does absolutely nothing for fuel economy, EVER, a 180 degree will help mpg, but not as much power.

Another issue is the Check Engine light, it'll throw a code P1281, Engine Too Cold For Too Long, A good programmer will fix!

  • @jeeplaredo2004,

there are a few other items done, i wrapped the fuel rail with thermotec thermoshield insulation, (the exhaust manifold is right below the intake manifold, warming that thing up quite abit, colder denser fuel!) wanted to wrap the manifold but affraid of those 02 sensors.

Bosch Platinum 2 plugs, dont get 4's, didn't notice crap...

my throttle body was custom, half shaft counter sunk screws, sharpened blades and ported for additional airflow at partial airflow, no spacer though

  • nice! ive been thinking of wrapping things to keep heat away. i may do my intake and i like the idea with the fuel rail. Did you notice it run stronger?

  • can you give a real 0-60 sec with the throttle all the way open all the time or is that it? my stock jeep does about 8 and a half second 0-60 at about 100 feet above sea level. So what's you 0-60 time?

  • that was it. The meter was a little faster than reality. It was slow cause of the weight, drag, temperature and elevation. I would love to be able to drive it at sea level. So yours is 8.5sec at sea level. Do you have a video? I would love to see what yours is like?

  • @jeeplaredo2004. Yea, I'm gonna try to get a video up somewhere, but I live in L.A. so its kind of hard to find a spot with no traffic or cops.

  • I see. that is an issue. what mods have you done to yours? i just want to see what mine may be like if i got it to sea level.

  • @jeeplaredo2004 yo i just uploaded my vid...its faster than i thought

  • @jeeplaredo2004 i retimed it very precisely using google and its 7.5 seconds from 0-60. Go check my video out again!

  • I do see your 0-60 is a little less than mine at sea lvl

  • @3colt3 i said the 2in spacer lift. did you mean mine was faster than yours at sea level or not cause the stock ones are rated 10 sec 0-60 at sea level.

  • @3colt3 suprisingly I have no mods. I'm only 16 and its my parents car, but I love it. Its a '99 with only 80k miles! What mod do you think I should get first or which has the most noticable power gain that is cost effective? Thanks!

  • @3colt3 i think mine is much faster 40, but your mods help out around the 40 and up range.

  • Well my favorite easy mod would either be the cold air intake or the throttle body spacer. intake is 200-300 dollars, spacer is 70-80 dollars. But my overall favorite upgrade but a difficult job was the Camshaft. I would go with and intake for your first upgrade. i always love getting rid of the stock airbox. Hope this helps

  • Come on tanner you havent even put a new stereo in it yet... You didnt even tell them about your lift either....GOD

  • Did you know the 99-04 Gc were prewired for an auto dimming mirror i changhed mine out it was really fast and simple.

  • yeah i would like to have one but the tire blocks the view now. the gauges was probably the easiest thing i've done to it. changing the oil was harder. lol. theres 4 screws holding them in and a plugin on the back and your good to go.

  • Cool i might look into changing mine out i would like to change my outside mirrors to heated.

  • yeah. the gauges from mopar were 600 dollars so i went to a junkyard and asked for 2002-2004 overland gauge cluster and i got them for 100 dollars. the mirrors would be cool. I also got the leather seats out of a limited and now have both powered in the front. still not sure how to get the switches for heated.

  • So were your seats not power before

  • The driver was but the passenger wasnt. they were just the fabric seats so i went back to the junkyard and for 120 dollars they got me two 04 limited seats that were in great shape. they bolt right on

  • Thats cool mine are not power so i couldn't do it plus my Jeep is Black so idk if i would wont leather

  • If you did want power seats, all you need is the harness plug in from the body and rig it to power and ground then plug it into the new seats and your good to go. thats what i did on the passenger side.

  • I have a Wj how hard is it to change them out

  • U changed out your tac

  • yes. i liked the overland gauge cluster so I just swapped them.
