  • I think John looked his best in the Revolver era!

  • Doctor Robert was John Lennon's dentist who could get LSD. John and George Harrison both tripped for the first time when Dr. Robert gave them a "newly discovered" drug.

  • Doctor Robert is my doctor haha ;)

  • @chemudle John Lennon was Dr. Robert

  • revolver era... best of all beatles era's

  • "They're just songs. We love to sit and laugh at all the things people think they mean. They're just songs."______John Lennon.

  • Is Doctor Robert Bob Dylan??

  • @carolinevictoria94 they said it was john

  • lennon pulls the most baddas song on every album

  • @thesinner922 Paul is better

  • 0:09 As good as it got for theBeatles.

  • what kind of clothes would john wear in this time?

  • Yeah this song is most definitely about Bob Dylan introducing them to drugs.

  • @JohnArnoldMusic but john said it was himself...he said he was the one that carried all the pills on tour

  • @xxLGagaxx ......Dr. ROBERT FREYMANN was a NYC "speed doctor" for celebrities who wrote many a prescription. All you had to be was "feeling down" and he'd "pick you up" from his magic cup. Talk about the early versions of energy drinks. Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson were typical clients. Maybe a Dianne Cannon type.

  • ...Thank You!

  • I have a teacher called Mr Robert. This song resounds in my head every time I see him. And he wonders why I keep bobbing my head and smiling :]

    lol

  • @CrispyRingo Great image, lol.

  • Eh, Doctor Robert was a dentist. They were invited to the party and he turned them on to LSD

  • This song is actually about a doctor in New York who gave drugs to guys like Warhol and so on , just forgot his name ...

  • i thought this song was about bob dylan who gave them drugs

  • Bob Dylan.. Get it? He introduced them to drugs. And he says Bob at the 2:02

  • i thought dr robert was the surgeon that created "Faul"

  • @333fano You saw that documentary too? I think it was kind of stupid considering some of "George's" Facts were off.

  • @TheGreatKungLao yeah it seems crazy but idk man its totally possible... well at least i think.

  • i just knew doctor robert, cool guy

  • My names Robert, what will happen if I become a doctor?

  • @MexicanChamp1000 You'll be the coolest doctor ever.

  • Great pictures! and they're the best

  • show me the way to Dr. Robert

  • dr robert was a real doctor in new york he was johns doctor and he gave him lots of drugs

  • @weedxXAK47Xxweed

Ok, I found out who Dr. Robert is...in all actuality. Dr. Robert WAS George's dentist (who also got his hands on LSD)!. George & Patty brought Lennon & Cynthia and some friends over to the Roberts'. Robert's wife spiked everyone's tea w/LSD. And, John loved it. Cynthia freaked.

That's from Lennon's bio. So, it's from a source that was there, when the event occurred. But, yes John did say Robert was him, as well...he said A LOT of things! love him! :)

  • I AM DOCTOR ROBERT AND SO CAN YOU!!!

  • @angerjohn Im stealing this its so awesome

  • lol, my doctor's name is roberta

  • doctor robert was the one who gave john his drugs

  • メンバー全員が麻薬(LSD)で頭がおかしくなってた時代なのに....曲の質が最高に良いです。リボルバーは異質ですが素晴らしいアルバムです!!!!

  • an often neglected song from the beatles that is actually a great song in both story and musical presentation. john did a wonderful job with lyrics here. and the music has simularities to crosby, stills, nash, and young's later offerings, but they didn't exsist yet! once agian beatle innovation ahead of the curve!

  • i wish George found Dr.Robert....:"(

  • @georgeharrisonlover5 Me too friend ......me too.

  • @wolfkarel and John..

  • I wonder if Doctor Robert was perhaps based on the infamous "Doctor Feelgood" who treated so many celebs in the 60s including JFK...still remember reading how Bobby got the stuff from a spare filled syringe, analyzed and went to his brother concerned about it--and Jack's reply was classic:"I dont care if it's horse piss, it works"

  • Anadin and Coca Cola were different in '66.You could mix them and get a good buzz. Known as Doctor Robert to some!

  • my name's Robert.yeeaahhhhhhh!!!!

  • @ssssssssssssssssss50 hahahah that means ur a drug dealer...just kidding :)

  • ACID TRRRIIIIIIIPPPPP

  • @HomenHigh

I agree, I am sure a lot of revenue came from these crazed, addicted, doctors who catered to addicts. Whatta f'd up circle of events. I am glad the Beatles, got out of that. John and George, what Icons, especially w/the giving up of drugs. Not only as members of an unforgettable band of geniuses, but an inspiration to everyone, in every part of the world. PPl like Dr.Roberts, will only be remembered for their kitsch. :)

  • @MsReffinej I don't think john ever got off drugs.

  • @milascave2

I do stand corrected on a few things...John spent most of his life on one drug or another. Kicked heroin w/methadone, but stayed on that for a while. Tried to do it "Cold Turkey", but when Methadone's available..well.

John was clean at least the last yr. of his life. He actually became a health nut. Yoko relapsed bk on heroin...trying not to let John know. A lot of songs from D.Fantasy seem like he feels he's losing her...but, she was distant, b/c of her addiction and secrecy.

  • 1 like Justin Bieber,214 like Beatles

  • I thought this song was on "Yesterday and Today", not "Revolver". At any rate it's a great tune.

FlamingoKicker, the USA needs a National Health program like they have in the UK, so you can shove your right-wing lies about National Health up your ass.

  • The Beatles were the strongest voice of a generation of many strong, talented voices. Nature set them apart for a reason. It is so we do not just think they were just another great band, so we look closer and listen a little better. When we do, we will discover that they were prophets. Go to truthcontest (dot) com and open The Present, then read the section about The Beatles.

  • My name is Robert and, if I'm not mistaken, this is the only Beatles song with a guy's name. So its quite an honor to be named after a song by my favorite band

  • @margaritadx3 maybe maxwells silver hammer

  • @margaritadx3 Maxwell's Silver Hammer?

  • @margaritadx3 Mean Mr. Mustard? Rocky Raccoon? Mr. Kite? Bungallow Bill? Hey JUDE? Mr. Moonlight? Roll Over Beethoven?

  • @unusedname197 Just to mention a few

  • This was the FIRST Beatles song to be recorded with drug references.

  • so i guess this song is about Timothy Leary and his acid? Timothy Leary inspired the 60's without him people wouldn't be exploring the other side of their minds.

  • wow-0:54 I can't recall ever seeing John play a Gretsch. I like it!

  • I need to find this Doctor Robert, he seems like he cares alot about his patients.

  • @ItchyLana

Doc Robert was John...he always caried the "pills" w him

  • the beatles are my Dr. Robert :3

  • My dad and I love this song.

  • 1 person didn't meet Dr. Robert...

  • The middle eight on this track is spectacular. When was this track written? Oh yeah, mid 60's!

  • didnt he get them on LSD?

  • Dr. Roberts was a speed doctor in NYC. Had famous and infamous clients, definitely not about a dentist!! He was notorious for the Warhol crowd coming to his office, sometimes 6x a day. The shots were, vitamins, coke, or amphetamine. If you were rich or famous, you'd get the special shot...w/the coke and amphetamine w/some LSD mixed in...GREAT doctor, Right??? ha!

  • @MsReffinej ...theres a doctor roberts in london too...he is the reason why lots and lots of famous people have property in a certain area of london...

  • bro, it was their drug dealer and he was also a doctor. he got them pain pills

  • @MrRhetoricals is that true where did u hear that there doctor was drug dealer too

  • @MrRhetoricals apparently its a song about the nhs

  • Guitar, backing vocals *drools*

  • I believe it was Robert Fraser they were singing about. An art dealer friend.

  • Doctor Robert was infact a real doctor in real life , he was from New York ....

I herd it from the radio station The Drive ...

  • im pretty sure John said this was a song about being on acid and added his DDS to it.

  • hoo r dese guys ther gay da black eyed peas r so much btr

  • @fruitypeebils that's funny.

  • @fruitypeebils

    Nice trolling.

  • @fruitypeebils Oh my... You spell like a retarded 5 year old.

  • @fruitypeebils these guys are the beatles and u might think there gay but we dont and it looks like only 0 ppl agree with u and 158 agree with me that the beatles are the best band ever! (not the black eyed peas!)

  • @liverpoolforeve no way da black eyd peaz are leik off dah hizzee they da 1z hoo maed boom boom pow dat song be kickin' bro. dis is just laem

  • @fruitypeebils english??

  • @liverpoolforeve bro u mad

  • @fruitypeebils ya sure!

  • @liverpoolforeve y tho

  • @fruitypeebils y what??

  • @liverpoolforeve fglhkrbsdajkhsdddddfyjcvkfdngkgfjbfkjdhjfdhfhflkfddkh

  • @fruitypeebils lol!

  • John said in the Playboy intereview (1980) that this song was about himself.

So take your pick what the song is "about". Or who it is about.

I'm surprised he liked the National Health Care though. Don't think George used the "free" service when he had his cancer. He used his millions to fight the disease.

  • @FlamingoKicker He says nothing about the National Health Care. He just means the health of the nations populace when he says National Health, he doesnt mean the NHS

  • @FlamingoKicker Im pretty sure the national health line was used figuratively

  • @FlamingoKicker if they were being threatened by the secret service you think he would say that dr robert helped make a double for paul.

  • i did a play at my school, and my charecter's name was doctor robert.

  • this is perhaps their best overall recording of their career. Vocals are terrific

  • i thought they called timothy Leary Dr.Robert

  • Dr. Robert was not their dentist, John Lennon said he was the one who would hold the band's pill stash and that HE himself was Dr. Robert

  • DOCTOR ROBERT

  • @Samarmy11 basically it was bob Dylan slipped lsd in2 thier tea,,so low and behold we get LSD and revolver dentist that had slpped that in2 the drink should have gotten his brain discected like tl,peace if u get what i mean when he checks out,but get t right if you wanna talk bout it,DAVE

  • Maybe at "ring my friend I 'd say you called", "ring" is not a verb but a noun. Or maybe it refers to Ring-o.

  • omg i love the guitar in this

  • goofiest ppl n the planet

  • It could have been both John's description of himself carrying amphetamines, as well as the dentist who slipped "L" into their drinks, substituting the name Robert, for the dentist's real name. Many rock musicians use clever ploys, ruses, and similar, in their lyrics, so people have to think about the meaning, and I would say that John Lennon was one of the ones who did this the most!

  • Funny... Dr Audenaert.

  • jeez i love this song i remember when i first heard this song and i was like i must learn the guitar and by 10 mins bam! anyway brilliant love te beatles R.IP John Lennon and George Harrison

  • haha its so funny because this song was about a doctor who use to give out lsd to his patients. The beatles were so good at using words. You really have to listen carefully to their songs especially the later albums.

  • I love this song. I read a comment not long ago that someone felt this song was "filler" for their album, and I couldn't disagree more. So many opinions, and they're all subjective, so.. Botton-line is that if it sounds good to you then it IS good, but I hate when people give an opinion and make it sound like the gospel truth. I love all of The Beatles music from the early to the later years and the great thiing is that there is a song for every mood. Long live The Beatles & RIP John & George.

  • Comment removed

  • Tune one of the best can av a little dance to it

  • Back then Everyone I Am Sure Thought...Coool riff! then rubbed their heads.

  • I thought this was about Dylan first. Time to get a few root canals done and get some opiates.

  • Truely the very first breakdown in music

  • ring my friend i said you'd call

  • Awesome. I'm a new and better man. Thanks.

  • I take it that Robert was their drug dealer

  • @LollieSmith not funny

  • @Styptic123 Thing is with Beatle songs is that they can have many different meanings but it does sound like drugs. Especially the 'well well well' psychedelic bit

  • @LollieSmith i think Dr. Robert was their dentist that slipped John and George Lsd.

  • @dwoac6595 Hmmm maybe to keep them calm.

  • @dwoac6595 their wives as well! they all had to drive home trippin out!

  • goood song i never hear this aaa i love it !!

  • Great stuff...

  • Great track, seems simple but what they get into just 2:16 is amazing.

  • my own dentist is not so kind lol

  • Michael Jackson? Don't be soft, lad! you're talking through your arse, kidda.

  • @Beestroker Chill!

  • QUIEN RAYOS ES EL DR ROBERT

  • there is a street sign that has ROBERT DR i was like oh my god that is so close!

  • John was such a bad ass!

  • twenty years you or more happiness my first clawing way back low angle dogscat frissbeee bar cue eat uma re slice bread butter

  • There was no Dr. Charles Roberts. Dr. Robert Freymann of NY was the inspiration for this song, but John was quoted saying as he wrote the song, he realized he was writing about himself in the early days of Hamburg, as he was the one who always carried the uppers around for the band.

  • @seaonasdad Yes, he was the Beatles Dr. Feelgood

  • no.2 all-time song after miles davis

  • At first I didn't like this song, but every since I woke up this morning it's been stuck in my head!!! xD

  • No, the docteur robert is Robert Freyman who provides drugs in all NY :)

  • Lennon said that he was Dr. Robert, cause he provided all the pills.

  • @MAIJOR......His actual name was Dr. Charles Roberts (yes, with an "s" at the end of his name)...He was a New York doctor (one of many) who would give "star" patients various thngs like vitamins & LSD. But mainly his specialty was speed.

  • mward1995, it wasnt their first experience of drugs, only acid, they were stoners and speedfreaks before

  • Dr. Robert was John and George's dentist!

  • @bernabeatles2 No !

  • @bernabeatles2 No, Dr. Robert was the veterinarian for Ringo's dogs.

  • @bernabeatles2

I thought Dr. Robert was John himself (?). He claimed he carried all the pills in the early years.

  • @lookingforfun70 no Dr. Robert was a real dr. I guess he gave his patients drugs

  • @bernabeatles2 no it wasnt... Dr. Robert was just a name john made up for himself since he carried all the pills and drugs while they were on tour. The dentists name that gave them the LSD was John Riley

  • @bernabeatles2 its also been said that Dr. Robert was William Campbell's plastic surgeon to make him look like Paul after Paul died, but i dont belive that Paul died.

  • @bernabeatles2 lol thats also the name of my doctor! im trying to practice this song so i can play it for him cuz hes so friggin nice lol

  • @bernabeatles2 lies. In fact, Dr. Robert was the guy that used to provide drugs to the beatle boys,.. He is seen represented by Bono Vox on the movie Across the Universe

  • @rodrigobeirao well, john and george's dentist was the one who gave them LSD for the first time, slipping it into their coffee

  • @bernabeatles2 their first exposure to LSD!

  • @bernabeatles2 Actually mate, that's false. John claimed himself that he was Doctor Robert. Saying he's the one that carried the pill and pot for the band. :P

  • @bernabeatles2 I had heard the rumor that Dr Robert was Bob Dylan since he was....you know....their dealer

  • @bernabeatles2 "dentist" ;)

  • @bernabeatles2 Lord knows George needed him

  • @bernabeatles2 he didn't do a very good job

  • Love the song, my boyfs name is Robert, I sing it to him when he wears his white shirt! lol

  • i always love this not so famous song from Revolver album. Excelent, love John voice and george guitar...i used to play a lot of times

  • Dr. Robert was John and George's dentist. And they went for dinner with him and he slipped acid into their drinks. He advised John and George not to go outside but they were too high to care. So that was their fist experience of drugs. If you listen to the lyrics it's either about their dentist, a drug dealer or about drugs.

  • @mward1995 - Correct except it was first experience of acid not drugs in general. He slipped acid into the drinks of john, george, patti and cynthia.

  • Good video, awesome music!

  • refers to Dr Robert from Aldous Huxley's novel Island

  • Revolver is my fave :)

  • Indeed! I agree.. The album that changed their music, that is for sure. :]

  • @chainsmaster251

Revolver is the best, in fact (St.Peppers a little too overrated)

I love that cool, moderate-slow beat!

  • Revolver was the greatest, coolest moment in rock history. Followed closely by Abbey road.

AH, WHAT THE HELL - I LOVE ALL THEIR STUFF.

  • @salvadormarley No, the greatest, coolest, most important moment in rock and music history was the release of Thriller, by the King, Michael Jackson!!!!! All else is poseur, wannabe shit!!!!

    All Hail The KING!!!!!!!

    :-)

  • @TheMJtheGOD even though the beatles were before michael jackson?

he was just a pedo freak made of plastic that sung like a ponce

  • @skint0n0minted Chill!

  • @salvadormarley

    Yes, to both sentiments.

  • @salvadormarley Agreed !

  • @salvadormarley i would offer u a beer right now,despite my number 1 is Abbey Road:)

  • haha paul looks so wasted in 0:18..ahh the good old days..

  • Love this song; it makes me think of my own Doctor, whose first name is Robert and he keeps me supplied with painkillers and tranquilizers. Cool coincidence!

  • can you give me his number?

  • 867-5309

  • epic WIN
