However, what affirmative action does is prevents a racist admissions counselor from choosing someone who is white over someone who is black. It's there to guarantee that people allow all races in. However, in a perfect world, a person shouldn't look at the name, race, or gender of the person they are admitting into a college. Force it to be merit based.

While Black Americans have been tossed around quite a bit throughout the history of this country, the avenues to success now are quite vast with tech opening up. There will always be inequities, no doubt. But to disenfranchise qualified people is not a healthy approach. Affirmative Action is just another union and people need to set goals and work hard to overcome their situations. Then again, trying to escape one's "predispositions" can be a hard task. It's always easier said than done.

A study @ UCLA showed that in the absence of AA (as it is in some states), admission rates at selective public universities have gone up for Asian-Americans and down for WHITES, blacks, and hispanics. While Black Americans have been tossed around quite a bit throughout the history of this country, the avenues to success now are quite vast with tech opening up. There will always be inequities, no doubt. But to disenfranchise qualified people is not a healthy approach. Affirmative Action is just another union and people need to set goals and work hard to overcome their situations. Then again, trying to escape one's "predispositions" can be a hard task. It's always easier said than done.

If you needed heart surgery & a Black/Hispanic doctor walks in to perform the operation. you're going to wonder, is this guy a doctor because he has a high IQ & got the best scores on his exams for Med School?
