  • scary tornadoes

  • creepy looking tornadoes

  • "this is not the recommended way to view tornados" lol

  • The quality is awful.

  • @chrisjames1962 Well the footage wasnt taken in 2005 ya know. This is as good as quality got back in those days :P

  • @TravisAllenTvChannel I mean the 240p stream rate. I've never uploaded anything to youtube, so i don't know how it works. Why do some people upload at 480p or better and others at 240p. Does youtube determine what rate it's uploaded at or do the people? Explain if you'd like. :-)

  • @chrisjames1962

It's 240p because that's the best my old video capture card could do when I captured this. I've got a better capture device now but just haven't had the time to recapture this video yet. But I'm not sure if it would look much better because the video is old and was recorded at EP speed so it doesn't look that great to begin with.

And the quality of videos is determined by how good the quality of the video uploaded is and if it is encoded properly.

  • hey i still have these videos!

  • In 6:30 min. of this video is part of photo of the artwork from metal band-ZYKLON...LOllloOo

  • Hah! I know. My band was going to use it, but we saw their cover first and decided not to push it.

  • Thanks, I updated the description.

  • the way it tilts is weird but cool

  • cool but what kind of tornado is that

  • The photographer must have been drunk in 3:51-6:35. THAT IS A REALLY CLOSE TORNADO! He was lucky he wasn't killed. Very good movie ColonelAngus75. Can you put Day of the killer tornadoes in one big movie rather than in parts?

  • The maximum length that a clip can be is around 10:58 so that's why I had to split it up into three parts.

  • ok. Thx Anyway

  • Your videos are great! I live in Pittsburgh and we missed the 1985 outbreak here but were close!

  • Well, someone has a video length of 27 minuites from a TV Station with the Greensburg tornado, so can you please just try?

  • I have tried to put longer videos up before, it rejected them. A while back YouTube had a special account that people could sign up for that allowed them to post longer videos, but you had to give give YouTube your real name, address, and telephone number and I wasn't willing to do that. So anybody who posts long videos have those types of accounts.

  • Oh, OK

  • They have what's called a Director account. With that you used to be able to put up videos longer than 10 minutes and 100 MB. But not anymore. Even with a director's account everybody is limited to 10 minutes and 1024 MB.

  • @romerofan123 you have to have been a director from before the time when youtube limited the length

  • OH IVE SEEN THEM GET CLOSER ON VIDEOS

  • ya like reed timmer get with in 100 yards of a f4 wedge!!!!!!

  • Actually, the lens was zoomed out for the shot.

  • Oh hell yeah, that's the Cordell funnel and during the much longer sequence they show later on the camera zooms out considerably.

Cvilleok, the was the Tecumseh twister shot DURING Operation Sound Chase (when they filmed the first twister with audio, which I actually just uploaded on my channel) or was that strictly during the 5/22/81 outbreak when they were conducting the experiment to measure the sounds emitted by tornadoes at ground level? Never was sure about that.

  • Feh. Time for some grammar lessons, AntiC.

  • I'm a little confused as well...lol. The video you uploaded for Operation Sound Chase is the Tecumseh twister from 5/17/81, I have it on at least two videotapes that identify it as such (if I'm reading your question correctly). There were also people from the University of Mississippi chasing along with the NSSL team so maybe they shot the footage in this video?

  • Ooooh, right...I think since you mentioned they were from the university that this was indeed Operation Sound Chase. I know it was headed by Eric Rasmussen. And since there are two distinct angles of the Cordell tornado (the one shot from further away and of course the one up close that recorded its whole life cycle) then suffice it to say that there were a few chasers in the area that day, not just Rasmussen's team. Wasn't one of the others Howie Bluestein?

  • Howie filmed the Cordell twister. He talks about seeing it at the beginning of the "Tornado! (1985) - Part 2" video I uploaded a week or so ago (shameless plug :p ).

And speaking of different angles, the second Alfalfa tornado was also clearly shot from two different areas.

  • Blah, I think I made myself even more confused with my last two replies...lol. Yeah, Erik Rasmussen was part of the Sound Chase team that shot the footage of the Tecumseh tornado that you uploaded the other day (he's the one doing most of the talking). The Tecumseh footage in this video clip here I don't know who shot it, I didn't even know it was the Tecumseh tornado until you mentioned it. That's why I was wondering in my first reply if maybe it was shot by the U. of Miss. chasers. (cont)

  • And I'm not 100% sure, but I *think* Howie shot the far away footage of the Cordell twister. And I'm also not sure if he was chasing on his own or if he was working with the NSSL/U. of Miss. chasers.

  • Yes, at the time, a chase team comprised of Howie's students from Oklahoma University was the TOTO deployment team and actually attempted to deploy TOTO in the path of the Cordell tornado.

  • Aaah! Yeah, I remember...and wasn't the Cordell tornado the one that nearly picked TOTO up? I'd heard they had a very close call with one of the tornadoes during the early 80s, but I don't know if it was during this outbreak. They must have been swearing like hell. People were relentlessly attacking this family of twisters! Shooting rockets at Alfalfa 1, putting crap in Cordell's path...LOL

  • The only TOTO close call I know of is the Ardmore, OK Tornado 4/29/85. I don't know if the twister picked it up or just blew it away, but was damaged during that deployment.

  • Yes, it was on 5/17/81. Have you ever seen the spectacular video shot from the top of the chase van? It has the date and time in the top left hand corner. However, both the Tecumseh and Cordell tornadoes were filmed during Sound Chase.

  • uhh...josh?...dude..they dont ALWAYS go str8 down homie

  • Tornadoes dont go up and down from the debris, they go down in one straight line, what a fuck load of shit, tornadoes dont go from a stall to an upwards build up, they come down straightly from the supercell, fuck that cock, that film must have been made since the 1960's or 1970's.

  • Yeah, all the cool older twisters are on this video. Cordell (up close and further away), the two Alfalfas, Binger...just a great video. Too bad about EP mode though, LOL. Mine's EP mode, too. What were they thinking??

  • I guess they wanted to save a few pennies on the amount of tape they used. And they also had some weird need to rename most of the videos that are in this collection.

  • thank a lot for posting this thank you thank you!!

  • You're welcome!

  • AV, I am THINKING it is Tecumseh '81...I do not know for sure.

  • You are correct, May 17, 1981. The film was shot by a chase team from the National Severe Storms Laboratory(NSSL).

  • THANK YOU for posting this! I have the same video but haven't been able to transfer it to my computer yet. I LOVE the extended footage of the Cordell twister.

  • You're welcome!

  • I wanna say Orienta, OK in 1979 but I could be wrong.

  • Anybody know were the second tornado, the multiple vortex tornado was? Ive been trying to find out for years.
