@AtomicBomb79 Sorry, but I don't recall my original comment. However, no, someone who committed such a heinous crime would likely have some unpleasant incarnations ahead
If you took the pop counter cultural Neopag of today, that is imbued with Judeo-Christian morality, and dropped them in the "Pagan" cultures of the past , they would shit a water Mellon and bug out, because the blood thirsty brutality and blood lust of the ancient slave culture's, fueled by the religious concepts (that they idealized and romanticized today as superior to their own modern culture). paganism is usually polytheistic, it is a broad generalization of religions that in some way worship nature. I am a Pagan but my religion is all my own. I believe the earth is a living being with a severe infestion of parasitic humans. I respect the sun for the energy it gives the earth and the moon for the tides. That's my holy trinity now ask a navajo or an Austrailian Aberiginole what paganism means to them. Just don't ask a monotheist what paganism is, they don't know.
@ShantiAumShantiAum they were merely stating that satanic witches don't exist.. In other words: paganism and satanism aren't the same thing. witches aren't satanists and satanists aren't pagans.. however, they can gain beliefs from either religion but cannot be the same because its like trying to be a christian buddhist... it doesn't work and is contradictory. He wasn't saying they don't exist, he was saying that there is no such thing as a satanic witch unless you dont know what a witch is.
I still think this is a misunderstanding of Satanism. Many (by no means all) Satanists, including the religion's founder, practice witchcraft. I think that makes them witches. I have no authority over whether they are fellow Pagans. Do you?
Besides which, Christian Buddhists exist. Do I understand how they combine those beliefs? No. But I expect they see them as great compliments, especially if they see Buddhism as a philosophy, not a religion.
What's amazing is that every time I here a male claim they are a "neo-pagan" they are emasculated, effeminate, worthless excuses for men. What is a neo-pagan? It is a piss poor excuse for polytheistic worship and a disgrace to our ancestors. It was invented in the 1950s by a lunatic who invented rituals he claimed were secret and thousands of years old. Neo-pagans are pathetic, I would rather associate with an atheist.
Morons on parade. Paganism was centered around agriculture, not mystical shit - no one had time in those elements to be effin' mystical! Their lives revolved about the season and the sun. You can't hunt or fish in dead winter. How effin hard is that to understand?
@ooponsecondthought pretty effin hard since pagans have been fishing and hunting in the dead of winter since the dawn of man. It's still a common thing today.
I like the idea of speaking to non-pagans and seeing their views, the description is good about educating ourselves... but yes I agree with @septegram we dont need to convert people :) shame one of the women had to ask "do they like burning things"
Well, I think these people are actually pretty generous here. They don't know exactly what you want them to know about Paganism, but they want to to be respectful. Could it be that they come from a culture where in a very deep way everyone knows the good life expresses love and justice...a culture where each and every individual is valued....where there's no need to appease a god to gain favour, because they are, each and every one,no matter who they are, already worthy of love.
The concept os religion has nothing to do with the original pagans. Pagans is a belief that nurishment comes to us thru the union of the sun and the earth. These are real and not spiritual. They are natural and can be verified just by growing your own food. Wow! What a epithany. Witches are a chirstian creation and so people with christian influences have decide they want to be a witch or warlock! Dumb! That thanks to mother earth by taking care of her.
My personal opinion everyone here that was interviewed is pagan. It is quite obvious. 2 girls are wearing pagan jewelry, The guys are to laid back and not uptight. The way they are dressed and how they speak. Were these christians than the responses would have been more harsh with bible verses also.
Every child comes into this world as a Pagan. It is as natural as breathing. It isn't until they are taught this-or-that religion, or some other mind set that they suppress their natural spirituality. Blessed Be!
@Gr8Gaia What does that )O( symbol mean? I was brought up in a Christian/Baptist home and I no longer go to church. I am trying to learn more about Paganism.
@HSofRapture1 It represents the phases of the moon, and also the different phases of our lives. The Waxing moon (beginings), the full moon (the heights and fullness of our lives), the waning moon (endings and/or transitions). The endings can also be thought of as the new beginings of another new begining. It goes on...
@harcuboss i thought it was yahwee or allah, how many more names do you need for your god. just like a christian to not understand and respect your own culture. yes thats right it was what every culture had before rome lead by constinople wrote your famous book fool. we may not be able to find exactly how our pagan ancestors did all their writes but atleast its not made up crap.
From what ive learned from talking to pagans at my school is that Paganism is 'earth based' and that they are very kind and friendly. But I asked them about the whole stereotype of devil worshiping or darkness eternal crap and they got sorta pissy about the question. Nonetheless, a few smiled as they answered it. I think it was because they knew I wanted enlightment on this particular subject.
@Kayleahful The accusations of devil worship and things like that were put into place by the christian propagandists to demonize paganism. Just like they demonized people like me (Athiests)
@proofOFLife Yeah, I know. It is awfuly aggrivating. Just recently Mom &I whent to a local animal shelter to surrender our kittens and there was poster warning that there this guy would adopt animals from shelters, take them home and nearly kill them by abuse &starvation, then send the animal back to the SAME shelter.
She took a quick glance at it and said, "Everyone knows that only Satanist &pagans do that..."
wow this video pissed me off..seriously educate yourselves. Shows how the mdeia pucts false facts in peoples heads...maybe if you stopped watching so much t.v and read a few educational books you would know the true definition of paganism!
wow this video pissed me off..seriously educate yourselves. Shows how the mdeia pucts false facts in peoples heads...maybe if you stopped watching so much t.v and read a few educational books you would know the true definition of paganism!
The term paganism holds many paths, only the core/essence is what makes it paganism. The only 'rules' are those of nature and the universe, and the guidelines are basically common sense based on understanding the way thinks work.
Its based on calculating the result of every action & the powers (gods, giants, ...) that can't be denied.
Paganism is not a ''faith'' it is a generic term used by those brainwashed by the eastern judaic, christian and islamic mysogynistic, barbarisms to describe the people who think nature is to be respected and conserved rather than dominated as the eastern cults insist. The foreign faiths insist that they have ''dominion'' over the world. Whereas indigenous people of other parts of the world know that nature is the master and people should respect her whilst enjoying her largesse.
I don't think us pagans hide I don't think we need to tell everyone what we believe, it's what we do not what we say and make other people think that is important.
From my personal experience: The so called "community" pagans love so much is pretty much the most unstable community I have personally witnessed in my life. Too much drug abuse. To many spiritually disoriented people.
At first when you "jump" into paganism it all seems so great, so blessed, so above, so open.
After a while it all seems so failed, so dark, so empty, so hateful, so closeminded.
Idk, probably seeing/realizing that alot of humans dream of some sort of utopia where we all eat drugs and are peaceful. Practically it just doesn't work that way.
@EllisHix I think this was the point, though...most people in this video came to realize that no, Pagans don't worship Satan (not possible, since they don't believe in him/it/her), can be pacifist, can be vegetarian. Most of the people admitted that they had very little idea of what it meant to be Pagan, but also admitted that they had their own prejudices or sterotypes of what they were like.
One woman said, "I think they can be anybody." That's the opposite of cowan fail.
@falsepride Because-those main religions were once small religions. All religions become corrupt when they become larger. Especially ones with god(s).
While yes it is true that burning man festival is not exactly pagan. I am a bit surprised to hear a group of people so ignorant about pagan belief. Not ignorant in a bad way just a way that they have not been taught so of course they would not have the right idea. Still is a bit of a surprising fact.
Probably because there's a respectable overlap between the Neo-Pagan and poly communities. Once you start questioning one major cultural institution, it becomes easier to question others. The two communities are by no means congruent, but probably overlap one another more than many others.
Of course the definition of a Pagan is anyone who is not Christian in the broadest sense. Neo-Pagans are those who follow indigenous spiritual pantheons that in most cases predate Christianity. They include not only Celtic/Norse pantheons but also Sumerian, Hindu, Native American and Aboriginal just to name a few.
wow that's not accurate, HKyle. There's pagan that are Norse (Asatru), Celtic, and Greek (Hellenic) Reconstructionism and those aren't Neo-pagan. Wicca is neo-pagan. The others as far as I know are just pagan, not neo-pagan.
and I say that because I know that asatruars and celtic recons certainly don't like being associated with what could be "fluffy" neo-pagans. But that's also not to say that all Wiccans or other neo-pagans are fluffy.
@aksquash Pagan is Latin from Paganus which means "rural, rustic, of the country". It wasn't used as a demeaning term until the 4th century CE. Only then was it used to describe non-christians who practiced different rituals. Of course, that didn't stop christianity from stealing most of their rites, rituals, and holidays!
There wasnt a group of people who actually called themselves the Pagans..that name was made up by Christians. Only "Neo-Pagans" will call themselves Pagan
If you want to know about Paganism then youre basically wanting to know about Celtic/Norse tradition. One of their core beliefs was that everything has a spirit..from animals to stones. They believed in gods, goddesses, forces of nature, and resurrection. They were fierce and enduring warriors. Most were killed or converted to Christ by Rome
All 'pagan' means is people who live outside the town - early Christianity spread in the towns, it was an urban religion mainly, and it didn't touch the rural areas very much, simply because of travel difficulties. So the suburban districts, the country districts, and the rural areas were the last to accept Christianity. They were the people outside a certain boundary. They were pagani - pagans - those who were outside that limit.
Listen up, all you jackasses! Paganism was most likely the first religion on Earth. I hold no grudges against Christians, Muslims, or any other non-pagan religion. However, other Pagans and I would highly appreciate it if you would simply accept us for who we are. We Pagans do not worship the devil - we despise it. We worship the Ultimate Power of Mother Earth and Father Sky.
You Pagan-haters cannot force us to change. We are here.
Lol! Right on. That's why it's important to educate people so that they can learn the truth and not continue to live in ignorance. However, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. We are here to stay so its better if we all learn to live in harmony for a change IMO. Thanks for your commentary!- HKyle1
@HKyle1 : give us salt why don't you? that'll make us drink.
I just have a huge problem with polyamority. It's actually one of the reasons STI's are so prevalent these days.
I also don't get how one can believe in many gods...what is the point of dissecting the universe into many different elements, when they all work together? please tell me that...
I have nothing against "pagans" but you say some things which are not right.
"Paganism was most likely the first religion on Earth"
And what is the "pagan" religion?. paganism is a term that describes anyone who belong to a religion other than judaism, Christianity and Islam "abrahamic religions" australian aboriginal religion and hinduism "fallowed closely by judaism" are the oldest surviving religion today".
there was no religion in antiquity that worshiped mother earth and father sk
Pardon me but how do you know this if there is no recorded history of that time? Any mainstream historian will tell you that we don't know what sort of religious beliefs those people had. Probably there were diverse religious beliefs across the continent. We don't even know to whom those people are raleted, thought some think the basques are related to those people
this is all from archeological finds that have been found all across Europe, idols and representations of mother earth show up all over the place, in addition to this I have recently learned that apparently the early Germanic tribes men also worshiped a form of mother earth, almost every book I've read which has to do with pre-Indo-European Europe says the same thing.
Read any history book writen by mainstream historian and you won't find that "Mother earth religion". That there was a single religion all over europe that worshiped a single deity called "mother earth" or as some neo pagans call "the old religion" is just a myth and speculation, not history.
Those people probably had shamanistic beliefs. they probably worshiped their ancestors or spirits for every force of nature. The idea of a single deity came first in egypt with akenathon
Almost all that belief of a single religion worshiping a single deity of that time take their sorces from the works of proffesor Marija Gimbutas, and her conclusions did not point a single goddess but rather a large variety of deities. You should now that almost all modern archeologists reject her conclusions regarding how that society worked
Then I don't know, except that all the books I've read and the documentaries I've watched on the subject have all said the same thing.
though I did find something interesting which you may like to look into if you haven't already, apparently the Greeks had a mother earth goddess called Gaia.
the greeks worshiped gaia, but she was one among many gods, not a single deity. She wasn't even the "first cause" in greek mythology.
When one reads a book, one must know if the person writing it, is an authority in history and if the work has been summited to peer reviewd magazines on the subject. I can write a book suporting the exitance of atlantis, or that the earth is 6000 years old, but that does not make it true
Well yes, but every history book, every thing I've come across states the worship of mother earth by early Europeans, you are the first instance I've had of a contrary view to this, I've collected my information through cross referencing, even someone who is an authority in the subject can be wrong, that is why I don't often check authors credentials, I only cross reference to see if the information is supported by the majority of researchers, then I gauge ow probable I think it is.
then sincerily I don't know which authors or books you have read. You really should check the credential of those you read and if those "researchers" are in fact schoolars or pseudo-historians.
Even Starhawk, who is one of the leading members of "goddess movement" has come to admit that the story of "the ancient goddess religion" is more an inspirational fable than history
there is an article on the site thorn-magazine, this was writen by a neo pagan
"The history that most Pagans know based on work done by Marija Gimbutas, Margaret Murray, has been largely debunked by later scholars, and not just those who might be considered part of the patriarchy. archaeologists and historians invested in the liberation of women have joined in criticizing earlier theories of prehistoric Goddess-worshipping cultures, the existence of a single ancient fertility Goddess
Once again, a scholar with many credentials can be wrong.
Have you cross referenced your argument? on the whole, how many people agree and many disagree with you?.
on the other hand the popular theory is not always the right one, so we must each examine the theory ourselves and come to our own conclusions.
Btw I'm not actually saying that early Europeans worshiped ONE single god called mother Earth, I'm just saying that Europeans have worshiped mother earth goddesses in the past, like Gaia.
I have checked and investigated that matter and seen the opinion of preminent scholars and historians on that field
We are free to draw our own conclusions, but we must rely on those experts of the field.
"historic europeans" as well as other cultures around the globe worshiped many gods and goddesses. I would say that more than the modern concept of "mother earth" they reverenced fertility which is an universal theme
However, that is completely diffrent as the claim of some neo pagans "I think you do not share that opinion" that there was an idilic society of peace in pre-historic times, that somehow had discovered a sort of monotheism based on the belief of the "great goddess".
Oh no! of course not! that's ridiculous, if that's what you're arguing against then I'm on your side.
All I was saying was that early Europeans worshiped mother earth goddesses in their religions, we can't really know if the religion was monotheistic or not, but it most certainly was not idyllic and peaceful, that simply doesn't exist on Earth and hasn't and never will.
It seems we have been arguing when in fact we have been on the same side all along :), of course some europeans "as well as other cultures in the world" viewed fertility as something sacred "I preffer the name fertility goddesses instead of mother earth". Gaia for the greeks was an example of them. There are themes that are universal. You will find gods of war in many cultures, gods of thunder, gods of fertility, gods of the earth, gods of the sky.
Yes I would agree with that, there are many universal concepts after all: dragons, mermaids/mermen, Adam and Eve, the great flood, human-animal hybrids, talking animals etc etc
Not according the Bible though I know you disregard it.
I don't hold any grudges against Pagans, it is in the bible that I mustn't.
We are only very concerned for you, that you have been decieved and tricked by the devil into believing how you do, demons can take any guise they want and can and will use ANY belief system to their advantage if only it gets the given person away from God, is it not possible? why or why not?.
That's fine, God has told us not to force anything on you.
Really? then how do you explain the fact that I am alive today without a hernia? I got it when I was little, we went to a doctor and he said to tape it and just make sure it didn't stick out, I was scheduled to go back to see if they could do anything about, my parents and their friends prayed to God that the hernia would be healed, not more than 2 weeks later my parents took me back, the doctor was astounded, the hernia had disappeared completely and there was no need to do anything!.

It wouldn't be medicine/science because I was never operated on, the doctor didn't do anything, he just said to tape it to make sure my guts didn't spill out, the doctor was going to operate but when we got to the hospital the hernia was completely gone without anybody doing anything besides praying.
@elvisheepofdoom: We're not concerned for you, so no sense with your false pity/remorse. Every person follows their own destiny and truth, too bad we don't seem to follow the same path. There isn't a "right" or "wrong" there just "is." You're obviously too immature to understand, because you have to come on here calling people wrong to make your own insecurity in your own faith justified.
@oldescot Ancient Celts held the Dark and Light in equal regard....there was no Devil. Saying we "fear it" isn't correct in regards to that or similar religions. Just sayin...
why does "pagan" have to mean something based in nature, the word actually refers to any religion/cult that is non-christian and boy there are a lot of those...
Let me break this down to you. Pagans from how I interpret. Is a group of individuals who don't believe in The God, but recognize the possibility that some form of a higher power could exist.
Excuse me! We believe in The Creator!! It makes NO difference by what name you call The Creator!! In my case, there are 2 Ultimate Deities, The Great Father and The Great Mother, or Mother Earth and Father Sky.
Neo paganism is bullshit, they are just culture starved people looking for an identity. I refuse flat out to believe that they believe in the shit that they do. It is fucking bollocks.
Magic potions and rituals are bullshit. Forfucksake this is the 21st century. And you will see that most neo "pagans" are yanks. surprise surprise
Magic and ritual are not "bullshit", I believe the people practicing them are misguided as to what they are doing, but simply the notion that magic is possible isn't a hard idea to grasp, I have seen things happen in my own religion (Christianity) which could be called magic simply by their supernatural qualities, you do not believe because you have not seen proof, I and I suspect most pagans and Christians have.
Its weird but it seems most white people go to wicca in the sense of something magical. Latinos go more towards palo mayombe or Santeria just like african americans. This white folks talking here are very uninformed.
Well I really hope that there won't be more Crusades :D , but of course i agree that pagans have nothing to hide , but pagans don't walk around telling people about their beliefs , they just keep it in themselves!
The foundation of my work does not center on the particular dogma of any of the over 40 sects of Paganism and Neo-Paganism I have studied. Instead, it focuses on how a person's beliefs effect how they behave in society. Showing that we are normal productive members of society and not some freak show is the crux of the education I advocate in this and all of my other videos. We DON'T try to convert people. That is not what I am suggesting by "education" at all.
Why don't you Pagans convert people? don't you believe in your own beliefs enough to feel a sense of pity over the fact that you (in your minds) have the answers and everyone else doesn't?, we Christians convert people because we share the love of our God for all man kind and truly do wish that you all could join us and not be sent to Hell, we want to save you! it is out of our love for you that we try to convert people.
We don't convert because we believe that our gods are not for everyone. "There are other gods in the world but They are not *our* gods." You follow YHWH and Jesus, and that's right for you. Why would I want to draw you away from your god?
Don't worry: we won't be sent to Hell because our gods don't send people to Hell.
@elvisheepofdoom: Anyone can go back and forth with infinite "What if" questions. "What if" is not true faith, nor is it justification for follow Christianity, Judaism, or anything else.
@septegram i think man Lied about my god in the bible i think my god is more like your god more frogiving and understanding. how do Pagens view lesbians?
The reason Pagan's don't convert people is because we believe that you must find the Pagan path yourself. Converting somebody is forcing Religious beliefs
Converting someone has nothing to do with force, a forced conversion is not really a conversion, it simply has to with the fact that we feel that our way is the best way, we love all people, we want other people to experience it, so we convince them to try it, in the end they alone can make the decision, we simply inform them of our way and that it is in our opinion the best way for them, if they don't want it then fine, we can't force it on them, because our God specifically told us not to.
A real pagan doesn't care what others think about their lifestyle or if you prefer - religion and to educate them you yourself have to be educated about this topic , cause that is the problem , people who think they know everything , especially americans , start to spread false information all around. And if we speak about wiccans ,i can assure you that they are very far from the real paganism , they ARE NOT PAGANS!
I guarantee you'll care when someone is trying to burn you at the stake because of their ignorance. Real Pagans have nothing to hide and everything to gain from education.
I don't think going to a Burning Man festival is a good place to get a perspective of what the average non pagan thinks a pagan in. Burning Man is full of liberal open minded folks, not at all representative of the population in the States.
"dumb"...no, just uneducated. In the video "I" didn't mention anything, I was only asking questions to get them to say what they really thought. As you can see their perceptions were very different from the real truth. that is why it was important to ask.
I'm a wiccan and people either think im a child sacrificing wierdo or im a satanic worshiper. I'm still In school and Students can be so cruel towards me. I know it will come back at them threefold though
I feel it is a good option cause how they as other people try to recognized them as a bad token...does any one know the Salem witch hunt how many innocent ppl died cause of others thinking there were evil.. they just abused these ppl and hung them like they were not part of the human race. some times some don't know how some will feel. but I am one of them know they are faith healers for health of a healthy body ..you may call these ppl shaman..folk lore has a lot to say about such ppl..
Nerdy says the boy with the rocking cool goggles.I'm Pagan I've never touched twelve sided dice.I love meat if I had to I would kill the animal myself. While killing it I would be as nice to the animal as possible.I respect nature, but I'm not a tree hunger.A fish would be a good symbol to show you were a pagan because it was a pagan symbol.A sun would also work. The signs of the zodiac, because it to is pagan that is were the fish came from.
Ouch....when was Thor ever Greek or Roman? ;) Hehe! Thaks for the interview - there were some very interesting, intelligent and thought-provoking answers coming there.
Well Thor had his Greek and Roman Equated equivalents. The Greeks and Romans just assumed they were the same God with their God-Equivalent. with different names by different people.
Oh, no argument there. (Hence the ;) smilie!) And since it's been two months since my comment and I'm now on a computer without speakers, I can't listen again to find the place talked about, but I'm pretty sure someone called Thor a Roman or Greek God. Yes, the Greeks and the Romans had their equivalents to Thor, and some people see them as the same God with different names, and yet as separate entities as well. I'm not explaining myself very well, sorry....

When I hear the word "pagan," I think of a bunch of overweight people who can't drum for their life who are engaged in silly rituals that they know absolutely nothing about. Other than that, they're good people!
perhaps then you should check out some of the other videos on my page! There are plenty of Pagans who do not fit that description. It is unwise to dismiss an entire group based on a limited stereotype. I invite you to educate yourself and keep an open mind. Thank you for the commentary.
I had study herbs online I know what certain herbs help and what others can kill .. one herb called night shade that will put you to sleep and never wake up. so I know most of them tht are those kind of ppl are fine..those one who use the pentagram as calling demons are something different and
they are only opening doors of others to come in..so they should be looked different for those who ware the pentagram that don't use demons . plz reply I wud like it from some who knows about paganism

This was a good interview. I want Thor to smite all the people who exploit ritual (and other sacred places) as a means of promoting their politics. How would you feel if some one invited you to a space under the guys of having you as an honored guest and then started asking you to advance their own political agendas? That's pretty fucking rude to everyone involved, and if you believe that there rally are gods, don't you think that'd be pretty rude to them? Damn.
I really like this video. I'm scared a lot of times to pull my Mjolnir out from under my shirt unless I'm at home or around my close-knit of friends. I live in a very conservative place.

Besides which, Christian Buddhists exist. Do I understand how they combine those beliefs? No. But I expect they see them as great compliments, especially if they see Buddhism as a philosophy, not a religion.
Please explain what a witch "really" is?

The term paganism holds many paths, only the core/essence is what makes it paganism. The only 'rules' are those of nature and the universe, and the guidelines are basically common sense based on understanding the way thinks work.
Its based on calculating the result of every action & the powers (gods, giants, ...) that can't be denied.
skald9 1 year ago
Paganism is not a ''faith'' it is a generic term used by those brainwashed by the eastern judaic, christian and islamic mysogynistic, barbarisms to describe the people who think nature is to be respected and conserved rather than dominated as the eastern cults insist. The foreign faiths insist that they have ''dominion'' over the world. Whereas indigenous people of other parts of the world know that nature is the master and people should respect her whilst enjoying her largesse.

HKyle1 3 years ago 2
wow that's not accurate, HKyle. There's pagan that are Norse (Asatru), Celtic, and Greek (Hellenic) Reconstructionism and those aren't Neo-pagan. Wicca is neo-pagan. The others as far as I know are just pagan, not neo-pagan.
THEsonOfPan 2 years ago

@aksquash Pagan is Latin from Paganus which means "rural, rustic, of the country". It wasn't used as a demeaning term until the 4th century CE. Only then was it used to describe non-christians who practiced different rituals. Of course, that didn't stop christianity from stealing most of their rites, rituals, and holidays!
YnoT0207 1 year ago
@HKyle1 A pagan is someone that follows a polytheistic religion, Islam is not a pagan religion neither is Judaism.
FearDivinity 1 year ago
There wasnt a group of people who actually called themselves the Pagans..that name was made up by Christians. Only "Neo-Pagans" will call themselves Pagan
If you want to know about Paganism then youre basically wanting to know about Celtic/Norse tradition. One of their core beliefs was that everything has a spirit..from animals to stones. They believed in gods, goddesses, forces of nature, and resurrection. They were fierce and enduring warriors. Most were killed or converted to Christ by Rome
rahkyn 3 years ago 3
Celtic/Norse? You're missing the whole Classical Greek/Roman element, which is enormously significant.
septegram 2 years ago
All 'pagan' means is people who live outside the town - early Christianity spread in the towns, it was an urban religion mainly, and it didn't touch the rural areas very much, simply because of travel difficulties. So the suburban districts, the country districts, and the rural areas were the last to accept Christianity. They were the people outside a certain boundary. They were pagani - pagans - those who were outside that limit.
simonmandala 3 years ago
Listen up, all you jackasses! Paganism was most likely the first religion on Earth. I hold no grudges against Christians, Muslims, or any other non-pagan religion. However, other Pagans and I would highly appreciate it if you would simply accept us for who we are. We Pagans do not worship the devil - we despise it. We worship the Ultimate Power of Mother Earth and Father Sky.

there was no religion in antiquity that worshiped mother earth and father sk
uniontupapa 3 years ago
There were. Since Prehistory.
Veriser 2 years ago
There were what?
uniontupapa 2 years ago
There were, most of the inhabitants of Europe before Indo-Europeans showed up worshiped mother earth.
elvisheepofdoom 2 years ago
Pardon me but how do you know this if there is no recorded history of that time? Any mainstream historian will tell you that we don't know what sort of religious beliefs those people had. Probably there were diverse religious beliefs across the continent. We don't even know to whom those people are raleted, thought some think the basques are related to those people
uniontupapa 2 years ago
this is all from archeological finds that have been found all across Europe, idols and representations of mother earth show up all over the place, in addition to this I have recently learned that apparently the early Germanic tribes men also worshiped a form of mother earth, almost every book I've read which has to do with pre-Indo-European Europe says the same thing.
elvisheepofdoom 2 years ago
Read any history book writen by mainstream historian and you won't find that "Mother earth religion". That there was a single religion all over europe that worshiped a single deity called "mother earth" or as some neo pagans call "the old religion" is just a myth and speculation, not history.
Those people probably had shamanistic beliefs. they probably worshiped their ancestors or spirits for every force of nature. The idea of a single deity came first in egypt with akenathon
uniontupapa 2 years ago
Almost all that belief of a single religion worshiping a single deity of that time take their sorces from the works of proffesor Marija Gimbutas, and her conclusions did not point a single goddess but rather a large variety of deities. You should now that almost all modern archeologists reject her conclusions regarding how that society worked
uniontupapa 2 years ago
Then I don't know, except that all the books I've read and the documentaries I've watched on the subject have all said the same thing.
though I did find something interesting which you may like to look into if you haven't already, apparently the Greeks had a mother earth goddess called Gaia.
elvisheepofdoom 2 years ago
the greeks worshiped gaia, but she was one among many gods, not a single deity. She wasn't even the "first cause" in greek mythology.
When one reads a book, one must know if the person writing it, is an authority in history and if the work has been summited to peer reviewd magazines on the subject. I can write a book suporting the exitance of atlantis, or that the earth is 6000 years old, but that does not make it true
uniontupapa 2 years ago
So what?
Well yes, but every history book, every thing I've come across states the worship of mother earth by early Europeans, you are the first instance I've had of a contrary view to this, I've collected my information through cross referencing, even someone who is an authority in the subject can be wrong, that is why I don't often check authors credentials, I only cross reference to see if the information is supported by the majority of researchers, then I gauge ow probable I think it is.
elvisheepofdoom 2 years ago
then sincerily I don't know which authors or books you have read. You really should check the credential of those you read and if those "researchers" are in fact schoolars or pseudo-historians.
Even Starhawk, who is one of the leading members of "goddess movement" has come to admit that the story of "the ancient goddess religion" is more an inspirational fable than history
uniontupapa 2 years ago
It doesn't really matter, I've cross referenced it with many sources to get my conclusion.
elvisheepofdoom 2 years ago
there is an article on the site thorn-magazine, this was writen by a neo pagan
"The history that most Pagans know based on work done by Marija Gimbutas, Margaret Murray, has been largely debunked by later scholars, and not just those who might be considered part of the patriarchy. archaeologists and historians invested in the liberation of women have joined in criticizing earlier theories of prehistoric Goddess-worshipping cultures, the existence of a single ancient fertility Goddess
uniontupapa 2 years ago
Once again, a scholar with many credentials can be wrong.
Have you cross referenced your argument? on the whole, how many people agree and many disagree with you?.
on the other hand the popular theory is not always the right one, so we must each examine the theory ourselves and come to our own conclusions.
Btw I'm not actually saying that early Europeans worshiped ONE single god called mother Earth, I'm just saying that Europeans have worshiped mother earth goddesses in the past, like Gaia.
elvisheepofdoom 2 years ago

uniontupapa 2 years ago
true, a scholar can be wrong
I have checked and investigated that matter and seen the opinion of preminent scholars and historians on that field
We are free to draw our own conclusions, but we must rely on those experts of the field.
"historic europeans" as well as other cultures around the globe worshiped many gods and goddesses. I would say that more than the modern concept of "mother earth" they reverenced fertility which is an universal theme
that may be the case with pre-historic europe
uniontupapa 2 years ago
However, that is completely diffrent as the claim of some neo pagans "I think you do not share that opinion" that there was an idilic society of peace in pre-historic times, that somehow had discovered a sort of monotheism based on the belief of the "great goddess".
uniontupapa 2 years ago
Oh no! of course not! that's ridiculous, if that's what you're arguing against then I'm on your side.
All I was saying was that early Europeans worshiped mother earth goddesses in their religions, we can't really know if the religion was monotheistic or not, but it most certainly was not idyllic and peaceful, that simply doesn't exist on Earth and hasn't and never will.
elvisheepofdoom 2 years ago
It seems we have been arguing when in fact we have been on the same side all along :), of course some europeans "as well as other cultures in the world" viewed fertility as something sacred "I preffer the name fertility goddesses instead of mother earth". Gaia for the greeks was an example of them. There are themes that are universal. You will find gods of war in many cultures, gods of thunder, gods of fertility, gods of the earth, gods of the sky.
uniontupapa 2 years ago
It appears so! :)
Yes I would agree with that, there are many universal concepts after all: dragons, mermaids/mermen, Adam and Eve, the great flood, human-animal hybrids, talking animals etc etc

The foundation of my work does not center on the particular dogma of any of the over 40 sects of Paganism and Neo-Paganism I have studied. Showing that we are normal productive members of society and not some freak show is the crux of the education I advocate in this and all of my other videos. We DON'T try to convert people. That is not what I am suggesting by "education" at all.
HKyle1 3 years ago
Why don't you Pagans convert people? don't you believe in your own beliefs enough to feel a sense of pity over the fact that you (in your minds) have the answers and everyone else doesn't?, we Christians convert people because we share the love of our God for all man kind and truly do wish that you all could join us and not be sent to Hell, we want to save you! it is out of our love for you that we try to convert people.

Don't worry: we won't be sent to Hell because our gods don't send people to Hell.

elvisheepofdoom 2 years ago
@elvisheepofdoom: Anyone can go back and forth with infinite "What if" questions. "What if" is not true faith, nor is it justification for follow Christianity, Judaism, or anything else.

@septegram i think man Lied about my god in the bible i think my god is more like your god more frogiving and understanding. how do Pagens view lesbians?
Joeyal123 1 year ago
@septegram so what your saying lets say there was a pagan who killed 80 people and he/she still gets to have eternal paradise?
AtomicBomb79 1 year ago
The reason Pagan's don't convert people is because we believe that you must find the Pagan path yourself. Converting somebody is forcing Religious beliefs
KezzyPagan 2 years ago

LEZINKI 3 years ago
I guarantee you'll care when someone is trying to burn you at the stake because of their ignorance. Real Pagans have nothing to hide and everything to gain from education.
number1negro 3 years ago
And who has tried to burn wiccans?
uniontupapa 3 years ago
Um, Wiccans are indeed Pagans. I'd love to see you document otherwise, bucko.

I don't think going to a Burning Man festival is a good place to get a perspective of what the average non pagan thinks a pagan in. Burning Man is full of liberal open minded folks, not at all representative of the population in the States.

Sorry, does that person in the white leggings even know where she is? She seems incredibly clueless to everything they're talking about.

"dumb"...no, just uneducated. In the video "I" didn't mention anything, I was only asking questions to get them to say what they really thought. As you can see their perceptions were very different from the real truth. that is why it was important to ask.

"yea you mentioned thor... the roman and greek ancient stuff..."<- Dumb much?
Stereotypes... This isn't paganism.

Elfdaughter 3 years ago 2
Well Thor had his Greek and Roman Equated equivalents. The Greeks and Romans just assumed they were the same God with their God-Equivalent. with different names by different people.
TombKaios 3 years ago

Other than that, they're good people!

dude I'm skinny as hell and I'm a great drumer...lmao

perhaps then you should check out some of the other videos on my page!

Non-Pagans can't think. Their god removed their soul, which is why they all act like sheep.
