If Dorothy had such strong feeligs she would have been best to take the high road and simply remove herself from the program for a "term" or "vacation" until a time when she could play fair on the playground... evidently she did not have much of an upbringing which is evident within this clip- in the 50's the term was called..."Poor Little Rich Kid'...or Spoiled Rotten Brat...
Yes thank You Winterswar-The value of these WML as historic record is priceless! It is qualified evidence of a deliberate decline in the social quality of American Culture -The PC effort to eliminate all "class" distinctions & cast level has brought about elimination of respect & appreciation for achievemnet. Most "celebrities" dress down in order to appologize for financial gain. In the 50's Formal dress was a means of self approval now social courtesy is avoided.
Were John Daly and Dorothy Kilgallen on bad terms for a while? I never knew that. I would like to know more, if you don't mind giving details. Thanks.
In May 1957, Kilgallen wrote an unflattering article for the New York Journal detailing a WML confrontation among Fates, Daly, and Mike Wallace, whom Daly vetoed as a mystery guest that month. Kilgallen quoted Daly and Daly must have thought Kilgallen misquoted him and misrepresented his position. Fates wrote that JD did not talk to DK for six months after the article appeared.
'Cerf described Kilgallen as an outsider amongst her castmates for two reasons. The first being her political point of view, that of a "Hearst girl", differed from the others'; and the second being that information elicited during dressing room conversations would subsequently appear in Kilgallen's gossip column.'
Ahh very insightful about Dorothy and John's friction. I wonder what her relationship was like with Arlene, being the only two women on the show for most of the time.
Someone should write a WML book (published of course by Randomhouse) so we can all read it and be in-the-know when watching our favourite WML episodes!
And the guest panelist is of course Ricardo Montalband (how do you spell his surname? I always get it wrong), is that right?
The swiss don't refer to swiss cheese as swiss cheese either. on the other hand, american cheese is referred to as american cheese in america, but for the most part its not really cheese.
RE: Bellamy's plug for the March of Dimes to fight Polio and his mention of FDR's polio. It is true that "Sunrise at Campobello" details FDR's paralyzing illness, but it probably was not polio. In the old days doctors grouped and diagnosed several diseases as polio. FDR's symptoms indicate Guillain-Barré syndrome which can now be treated with medications. This means if FDR were alive today and contracted the disease, he would more than likely still be walking.
I can't thank you enough for posting these.....I am so happy watching them!

look at this clip and realize how decent, caring and classy people were on TV at that time. Then compare it to the garbage that's on now.
Ralph Bellamy was great, one of my favorite actors and you can tell a genuinely nice fellow.

Of course Bennett Cerf figured it out. Dorothy cheated, she took her mask off during the questioning and mentioned his name out loud.
Yeah, I know, I know.

This is all very amusing because Bellamy is about as Spanish as Canada Dry.

From the Wikipedia article on Dorothy Kilgallen:
'Cerf described Kilgallen as an outsider amongst her castmates for two reasons. The first being her political point of view, that of a "Hearst girl", differed from the others'; and the second being that information elicited during dressing room conversations would subsequently appear in Kilgallen's gossip column.'

There's not a Canadian alive who calls that stuff Canadian bacon. In Canada, it is properly fererred to as back bacon.
Sorry, didn't mean to offend, rather just inform
