I know nothing about Opera, but I'm know no one can compare to Callas. I've listened this aria sung by many wonderful singers, but for some strange reason I still prefer Regine Crispin's version.

Both Callas and Tebaldi were great and sung this aria wonderfuly. But who's better is very hard to tell and everybody has the right of their own opinion and the right to express it! Deleting other people's comments because of their opinions it's censorship!

With all due respect to Mdme.Callas, truly of the greatest artists of our time, I feel the voice is not well suited for this aria. Emotionally, dramatically yes, but the color, placement, lower register, no. Sheer genius of a singing actress, exquisite musician, but not for Puccini- apart from Tosca of course.

This is just wonderful. Thank you so much for posting it. GreekCallas, pleade do me a favor and post the 1955 studio recording of this aria with Karajan. She sounds more beautiful and childlike like Madama Butterfly is supposed to be.

Now this is the Callas to remember, before the vocal decline...this is a beautiful voice...clear and firm without the failed vocal elements that brought on her decline...some say after '54.
