I also have a 100% birch VBX kit. Mine's the red fade with black hardware though. I have to say, I miss those stock heads. I've had Remo Pinstripes and now I have Evans EC2 clears, but I can't achieve this perfect sound that I had when I first got the kit. EC2's are the closest to them. Great tuning, they sound great.

If you're looking for an extremely solid kit for a great price, the 100% birch Pearl Vision VBX is the way to go.

@ACompetitiveHalo O-Rings actually make the drums sound worse in the long-run. By having the entire circumference of the drum muted, the head has nowhere to vibrate. I used to use them too, but I realized that It was just hurting the head. If I may recomend a lower tuning on the resonant heads, and higher on batter, I think that should help you achieve this sound. PS: I use that tuning in the studio. But not TOO low!

How'd you get your drums to sound like this with no remO's or Zero Rings? I need o have a O-ring on my toms, or they just don't sound great. I guess you have them mic'd? Cuz, if they aren't, then I NEED to know what the heck you did to tune them this well!

I too have a Pearl VBX kit. 22" bass, 16" floor, 12" and 13" racks, and a sensitone snare. I love the way yours sounds! What tensions did you tune them to? I'm still new at this, but I plan to purchase a drum dial asap, and wondered how you got your to sound the way they do. Thanks!

gorgeous set up- i have a Gibraltar drum rack and ive been trying to figure out how to achieve a set up that is perfectly aligned for my 12' and 13' toms i never thought the rack toms in the bass would make for perfect alignment! you have a great set and very nice tuning! cheers

I've had my Pearl vbx ruby fade with black hardware for 2 months. All I have to say is that it's a very beautiful sounding kit. Ever since I got it I've been mainly practicing on my tuning skills and training my ears. I've been playing for 4 years and I hope to post a video of my beautiful sounding kit soon.... when I'm no longer embarrassed of my mediocre solos xD

I've only got one of the cheaper Mapex kits but I swapped all the heads to the new Evans g plus clear. An amazing difference. Try them you wont be disappointed. Excellent video by the way.Your kit sounds great even with the pearl heads.
