Why can't every movie end like this? And dammit, it gets me everytime. The one movie that makes me tear up and puts a smile on my face :) thank you Tim Burton
I love how how they make the movie's ending happy in a way :) It's sad, but definitely the best ending ever. He lived an adventurous life, and his ending was with all of his friends, family, everyone. All there, happy to see him, letting him go and rest in peace.. Makes me cry :')
The only movies/tv shows that have made me almost cry: Up, Wall-e, Toy Story 3, Dear Zachary, Big Fish, and the ending to Lost. I didn't expect to adore this movie as much as I did and was really surprised when I saw that it was directed by Tim Burton. It's an amazing movie that everyone has to see... no excuses.
This is honestly one of the most touching death scenes I have ever seen... How sweet would it be if we had this understanding of death, where we happily say farewell when it is someone's time to go. Think of how much more positive the end of life would be... I really wish people would gather and honor someone BEFORE they die, not after.
I can't compare Big Fish to any other Burton films. It captured life so well... It's my all time favorite film.
@Magicbullet32 It's not a specific song, it's a score by Danny Elfman, who is an absolute Genius... You can probably find the score online, or you can buy the soundtrack on itunes...
The whole scene at the cemetery, burton letting you alone with your emotions...it cracks me up every time.No narrator speaking, the crowd at funeral muted, and me sitting there with wet eyes...DAMN YOU TIM BURTON.
i love this part of the movie! after going through the whole movie despising his father's stories and searching for the facts, the son inherits what his father wanted him to have all along, the stories, the extra magic that isn't always apparent in real life, but always present
I remember me and my Mum watching this on the couch one night and we both couldn't stop crying. After seeing this movie I've decided this is the way i want to die, so peaceful! I loved the fact that everyone you have ever met is there cheering you on.
No doubt Lolita...no doubt. Think about the lives each and every one of us lead; it's like we all have this amazing canvas and our lives and memories enrich it with texture and color..sometimes beautiful other times not so much. However, when it's all said and done, in our own way, each and every one of us have an amazing story to tell. We might not see it early on, but time has a way of providing perspective and ultimately we're all "Fish" with our own story to tell. =)
@DSCMoo Indeed. I havent cried in years but this actually made me cry like..more than tears haha, like actually sobbing. very emotional scene, tim burtons father died a really short time before the film and he did an amazing job showing the father-son understanding and relationship with this scene. one of the most powerful scenes I think
i cried at this part when he tells the story cause u know its fake and hes dying im a dude who wants to in the military or be a city cop and i cried over this part....go figure lol
when my grandfather was in hospital about to die he used to close his eyes while making weird, slow movements with his arms as though he was dreaming. one day he woke suddenly up and looked at me, excited. he asked: am i old? and i said...well, just a bit (he was 84).and then he made clear i had been right all the time. he said, ah i thought they (nurses) were preparing my craddle... amazing.
so he thought he was a baby!!
and i haven't read this book but i like the ending.tschüss
This book and film had helped me so much, my Grandad who I am incredibly close to has been ill for some time. Yesterday he was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer, he keeps thinking he is in the past.
And this has helped me to go along with what he says and helps me say what he needs to hear. Be I his mother, sister or grandaughter.
'We were like strangers who knew each other very well'
2003. For some reason the movie got mediocre reviews so I don't think it had a shot at best picture. How a cliche-ridden movie like Star Trek gets good reviews and a movie as original and touching as this gets mediocre reviews is beyond me.
This is a totally inappropriate comment for this clip, but I think the son is very handsome :) and since he's not in the public eye compared to other actors I almost didn't recognize that he was also in Watchmen!
The problem with it and the WHOLE movie is that Albert Finney/Ewan McGregor's character NEVER comes to terms with his mortality with HIS SON! The person we all wanted to get the least bit of resolution with was his son. But his father never gives it to him and FORCES him to play out his death on HIS terms. And even in the end, his father never told him how much he loved him, which is heartbreaking.
although i can c where ur coming from, i c it differently. I don't think it was about love. They both new deep down that they loved each other, but they still had that 1 big disagreement. Its a scenerio all fathers & sons have been in at one point. The question wasnt did they love each other, it was do they understand each other. All the father wanted was for his son to finally understand how he thought, y he told the stories that he did. Which is y he told him to tell the story of his death.
what I can't believe is that this movie got sooo many Oscar snubs. IMO best movie, best director, best supporting actor Albert Finney, Best original song Pearl Jam, but this was the year of ROTK and as much as I love LOTR I feel Big Fish is the better flick.

omg I cried so hard when I saw this in the theatre. 20 minutes after the movie ended I was still crying in the car. I am never that emotional. Absolutely amazing.
Sad? Yes. It makes this 21 Year Man Cry everytime (or tear up at least).
It's perfection, we can all connect to it, because when we go, we hope and wish for this. Everyone we have ever known, to celebrate us, home. Right where we belong.....
there are no rules when it comes to being the storyteller.
life is what you make it, how you view it.
if you meet you're own sandra templeton don't waste the moment. find out what kind of flowers she likes, hold up the boombox playing "in your eyes", do whatever it takes, regrets are just a waste of memory.
Well I hope in the case of dying, that you see the best parts of your life. Mr. X that was your life. Would be awesome.
I had a very bad car accident. I was in an warm place, there exists no pain, no fear, no body feeling, only thoughts & you´re floating. I survived and I think if you stay later in this, then happened more positive things to you. But I choose life.
i was sitting in the grass crying, thinking of this scene. she told us lot of stories of her life, she was the big fish and the biggest part of my life. and this is the only thing i can do to say her goodbye, watching the scene again and again and again...while everyone shakes his hands and laughs and shouts FAREWELL, but there's not a sad face to be found.
May the good Lord take her soul home. You have my deepest sympathy, but I'm glad to see that the happiness over rides the sadness. Once again, from someone dying of cancer who will leave a beautiful wife and 2 daughters behind this year, I only hope they think of me as you do your great grandmother. May the good Lord keep you safe, happy and healthy!!
yeah. there's a lot of interesting symbology in the novel that this movie was made from, actually... cookies to those who can understand what they are.
Who the heck disliked this?
RoughEdgedBeauty 3 weeks ago
@RoughEdgedBeauty Hmm... Lemme guess...(seeing five dislikes atm)
The two nurses/doctors and the security guard in the hospital, and two old grannies that had their car flipped over by the giant.

@ghoang Well I didn't dislike it so I don't know why you're getting mad at me.

@RoughEdgedBeauty You must be mistaken, I'm not mad at you at all (and never accused you of casting said dislikes btw).

But I choose life.

today my great grandmother died.
i was sitting in the grass crying, thinking of this scene. she told us lot of stories of her life, she was the big fish and the biggest part of my life. and this is the only thing i can do to say her goodbye, watching the scene again and again and again...while everyone shakes his hands and laughs and shouts FAREWELL, but there's not a sad face to be found.
