I too loved Laurie. Came across her cd in a bargain bin once (tsk tsk to that fool!) and then got hooked. The morning I read her obit in the newspaper, I cried in bed. Thank you, Seth, for this wonderful little lesson in her craft! What are you thoughts on Andrea recreating Star To Be in the TV version (which I love!)?
Thanks for this, I saw Laurie Beechman in the original Annie when I was very young and for a long after after that, I was disappointed by other female Bway performances, wondering why they didn't put her in instead. I still recall her parts as the highlights of this show, very glad others still appreciate her talents.
Hey Seth; Thanks for all your great deconstructions! and especially for Laurie Beechman! Met he once in NY and she was the sweetest person and very interested in who ever she was talking with. Such a loss!
Hey Seth, your deconstructions are also dopamine activators. Watching you lip sync during the songs just makes me all cheery. I love Lauri Beechman. So glad your deconstructed her. Keep em coming!
I've loved Laurie since the 1st time I stumbled into the Winter Garden back in '92. I'm glad there are a few people out there, besides myself, that admit they have obsessed over her abilities. She was not only a brilliant vocalist and actress, she was also one of the nicest & caring people I've ever met. I had the pleasure of meeting her twice, about a year apart. She not only remembered that she autographed her first CD for me in 92 but remembered my name as she signed her 2nd in 93. CLASS ACT!
THANK YOU, SETH! I REQUESTED U DECONSTRUCT LAURIE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO BECAUSE SHE WAS THE BEST, BEST ARTIST TO COME AROUND WITHIN THE LAST PART OF THE 20th CENTURY IN MUSICAL THEATRE...TRULY A GREAT SINGING ACTRESS...BELTER EXTRAORDINAIRE!
I loved Laurie and I miss her very much. Mein was the male voice that jumped the octave in those miserable colors. The women 'trying to find their note' always sounded like garbage trucks at 5am to me. Not that it was bad, just the same notes. Also, that quick slide up was one of Marge Rivingston's (the great vocal coach) tricks to easily reach a note. She helped me get through the high C's and D's in Benjamin's Calypso. You and you're shows are terrific. Charlie Serrano
The best "Star-to-be!" thank you for rewinding the liquid 'u' so many times, I kept going to do it, but you did it for me! because you're Seth Rudetsky and ah-mazing, of course!
p.s. I was the house manager for your show when it was at the actors playhouse, I remember the NYC section from your show. loved it then loved it now. you are the best!
as always another brilliant deconstruction!! I am always obsessed with the same belting sections as you! Its nice to know there are other belting freaks out there! thank you Seth!
The only CD I have never removed from my car since I switched to using my iPod through the radio is the Joseph soundtrack. It's like it's there for emergency use: "In case of COMPLETE DESPAIR, please break glass". It always, always makes me feel better.
i was listening to the SAME thing today. "who knew i could steal" has ALWAYS been one of my favorite parts of Laurie singing this. Laurie Beechman <3 sigh...
i loved laurie beechman singing "someday" from hunchback of notre dame, and didnt realise that was her on the annie soundtrack, i used to love her part in NYC!

I have never been a big fan of "Joseph" but Laurie Beechman was amazing in this role!
Despite stiff competition, I think she should have won the Tony.

"We all dream alot" is the same progression as Celine Dion's "Taking Chances" When she says ("What do you Say?...) 1:09 in.
