  • I too loved Laurie. Came across her cd in a bargain bin once (tsk tsk to that fool!) and then got hooked. The morning I read her obit in the newspaper, I cried in bed. Thank you, Seth, for this wonderful little lesson in her craft! What are you thoughts on Andrea recreating Star To Be in the TV version (which I love!)?

  • Dude! your such a legend. Those chords that put you in a good mood? You are my chords.

  • Drive by harmony made me laugh so hard.

Thanks for this, I saw Laurie Beechman in the original Annie when I was very young and for a long after after that, I was disappointed by other female Bway performances, wondering why they didn't put her in instead. I still recall her parts as the highlights of this show, very glad others still appreciate her talents.

  • Seth, this is just awesome. And I love reading the comments. Thanks so much.

    Claudia Beechman

  • Yeah....who knyu I could steal! Awesome

  • You make me laugh with the expressions...

  • the drive by harmony cracked me up!! omg

  • Hey Seth; Thanks for all your great deconstructions! and especially for Laurie Beechman! Met he once in NY and she was the sweetest person and very interested in who ever she was talking with. Such a loss!

  • I have never been a big fan of "Joseph" but Laurie Beechman was amazing in this role!

Despite stiff competition, I think she should have won the Tony.

  • Seth - love your deconstructions - keep them coming!

  • oh my gosh this is great!! You are soo right, she is the best. You love the parts I love too! Just amazing! : ) Thanks for doing this!

  • Hey Seth, your deconstructions are also dopamine activators. Watching you lip sync during the songs just makes me all cheery. I love Lauri Beechman. So glad your deconstructed her. Keep em coming!

  • is this british?

because it doesn't sound like the obc

  • Nope. It's OBC.

  • I've loved Laurie since the 1st time I stumbled into the Winter Garden back in '92. I'm glad there are a few people out there, besides myself, that admit they have obsessed over her abilities. She was not only a brilliant vocalist and actress, she was also one of the nicest & caring people I've ever met. I had the pleasure of meeting her twice, about a year apart. She not only remembered that she autographed her first CD for me in 92 but remembered my name as she signed her 2nd in 93. CLASS ACT!

  • THANK YOU, SETH! I REQUESTED U DECONSTRUCT LAURIE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO BECAUSE SHE WAS THE BEST, BEST ARTIST TO COME AROUND WITHIN THE LAST PART OF THE 20th CENTURY IN MUSICAL THEATRE...TRULY A GREAT SINGING ACTRESS...BELTER EXTRAORDINAIRE!

  • I CAN'T STOP WATCHING THIS...I'm completely infatuated with this woman's voice!

  • "We all dream alot" is the same progression as Celine Dion's "Taking Chances" When she says ("What do you Say?...) 1:09 in.

  • Haha, omg, I had no idea Laurie Beechman was the Star to Be! I'm in love with that solo!

  • I would love to hear Andrea as the narrator. Sorry I missed it.

  • I loved Laurie and I miss her very much. Mein was the male voice that jumped the octave in those miserable colors. The women 'trying to find their note' always sounded like garbage trucks at 5am to me. Not that it was bad, just the same notes. Also, that quick slide up was one of Marge Rivingston's (the great vocal coach) tricks to easily reach a note. She helped me get through the high C's and D's in Benjamin's Calypso. You and you're shows are terrific. Charlie Serrano

  • "Today im stealing coal for fires, who new i could steal." that was my line in annie when i was like 10!

  • I was given her CD a few years ago and fell in love! So sad to hear she passed. So happy to see you so happy!

  • omg i just love ur expressions!

  • The best "Star-to-be!" thank you for rewinding the liquid 'u' so many times, I kept going to do it, but you did it for me! because you're Seth Rudetsky and ah-mazing, of course!

  • This is going on my favorites :D

You're deconstruction makes me happy, 'specially the happy bobble head at the beginning

  • p.s. I was the house manager for your show when it was at the actors playhouse, I remember the NYC section from your show. loved it then loved it now. you are the best!

  • as always another brilliant deconstruction!! I am always obsessed with the same belting sections as you! Its nice to know there are other belting freaks out there! thank you Seth!

  • I almost died of laughter with the swaying for the Doppler effect.

  • Laurie's modulation in Annie never fails to make me happy. Love it.

  • Seth is the only person who could use the word "literally" wrong and I don't get pissed.

    He OWNS that word.

  • THANK YOU Seth!! You always make me so happy! Thank you also for plugging my site. What prompted you to deconstruct Laurie today? Just curious.

    Gary

  • The only CD I have never removed from my car since I switched to using my iPod through the radio is the Joseph soundtrack. It's like it's there for emergency use: "In case of COMPLETE DESPAIR, please break glass". It always, always makes me feel better.

  • I love "nyyaa"-ing. Do it with my singing teacher, so much fun.

  • drive by harmonies rock my socks!

Thank You Seth for deconstructing the late great Laurie Beechman!

  • LOL at the swaying on the drive-by harmonies. Seth is a metronome!

  • I love to watch Seth's eyes, they really tell the story. And is it just me or does he have the nicest skin?

  • when i was little, every girl i knew wanted to be annie...i always wanted to be the star-to-be!!! YES!

  • i was listening to the SAME thing today. "who knew i could steal" has ALWAYS been one of my favorite parts of Laurie singing this. Laurie Beechman <3 sigh...

  • Wow that song really does put anyone in a good mood! I love your videos!

  • AH-mahzing.

    I love NYC!

  • i loved laurie beechman singing "someday" from hunchback of notre dame, and didnt realise that was her on the annie soundtrack, i used to love her part in NYC!

  • is it weird that NYC always makes me cry?

    God bless Laurie Beechman.

  • she's just fantastic!

  • "drive by harmony"- this needs to be in the composer's dictionary...

  • It just creeps me out how all the little things that you are obsessed about in the cd's I AM TO!!! I ALWAYS NOTICE THAT STUFF!

  • "its like drive by harmony:

    ahahahahahahah love daily deconstructions!
