  • Again, I have to clarify my point on The Shining. Dick Halloran died in the film for a purpose: He represents Slavery. Jack represents the white man, and Overlook basically represents America. Jack's mistreatment of Dick, Wendy, and him being nice to the white people of the hotel (Wendy representing Native Americans) shows his routes as a white man, being abusive to the African and Native American people in the film.
