@MrRaiderfan1000 I think they are real keepers...a friend of mine had one too. Unfortunately, he died at an early age...don't know what ever happened to his Opel. Thanks! :) Jack
@raconter1 Yah.. they are, and my white one looked just like this one. My mother sold her nice house in West Los Angeles and moved to a Condo. I remember one of my nephews was in love with cars and would always come over and just sit in it. He would ask me what I was going to do with it and I told him that if he kept his grades up and stayed out of trouble that I would give it to him. When he was old enough to drive. I had remembered what I promised him 10 years earlier and the care was his!
@MrRaiderfan1000 That is a great gesture! And you know the car went to someone who will really appreciate it, and remember you kindly! Your nephew is lucky to have you as an uncle! Thanks! :) Jack
@8sixfeetunder Hey, David! Thanks again...the best information is often from people who either had the car or know someone who did! I changed the title of the vid! :) Jack
@thomassmithification This video is a year old, and values have come down somewhat over that period of time...it looks in good shape to me...and the owner says "or best offer"..so he/she is open to negotiation. Thanks! :) Jack
@koioo2 I think it's amazing- GM has been introducing cars developed by their German organization here...it is another step toward "world cars". It seems very few cars here are actually designed here..exceptions being Corvette, Cadillac, Mustang and the trucks from the "big 3"! Thanks! :) Jack
@koioo2 I think the same could be said about British Fords...they had a family resemblance to Fords in America, only smaller in size. A good example is the Ford Cortina. Thanks! :) Jack
@Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! One of my best friends had a yellow one of these...he did treasure it...indeed, he moved it across the continent to be at his place in San Diego. He showed it at the Automotive Museum in Balboa Park for one of their limited time displays. Thanks! :) Jack
@Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! Nor have I...that is the case of most of the cars that I video...I can appreciate them visually, but have no experience driving or riding in them. Thanks! :) Jack
One of my favorites..... the look of a muscle car, and the size/weight of a tiny car! the best of both worlds! Didn't they sell these in the US through Oldsmobile?
@nightmathzombieethan Hey, Ethan! Yeah...it was like a mini-Corvette! It was marketed through Buick agencies. That was rather strange in itself... Thanks! :) Jack
As I recall, the U.S. market cars got the 1.9 liter engine, which I'd read in an old car magazine (Imported Car Performance, ca. 1974) was a "cam-in-head" design, also used in the Mantas. There was a 1.1 liter also, w/ dual carbs (I recall reading this somewhere, so accuracy may be iffy)...Looks like a nice example!
@sortashaman It definitely makes sense that we would be given the higher displacement car here...less concern about fuel mileage, and more wide open spaces at the time. Thanks! :) Jack
@Sarcasticscum Hey, Nathan! Yes, it seemed that emission regulations caught the rest of the world by surprise...it took a major investment to bring cars up to standard, and if they didn't sell enough units here to justify the expense, they simply stopped exporting to America. Thanks! :) Jack
Opel GTs from 68 to 73 look very similar to me so I can’t help out with the year. There were some very minor changes through the years. A friend had a 69 and it was a true sporty car and quite popular. The pop-up lights add to its sporty look. Unfortunately emission controls seriously cut the power in 71 and sporty flavor. At the time I found it strange that GM gave it to Buick to market.
@cheddyrod Hey, Chester! Yeah, I looked thru the books and couldn't tell a reliable way to identify. Sad about the emission changes..it seems that and the bumper regulations had a death grip on imports. I agree Buick was a strange choice for marketing Opel...I guess Chevy didn't want to invite comparison with Corvette...and similarly, Mercury was a strange marketer for the Merkur from Ford Cologne! Very strange! Thanks! :) Jack
Thank you Jack!

I had a couple of these stored at my moms house but had to give one away to my nephew. I still have one in red and stored in my brothers garage.

I used to have a neighbour who had one just like this, except it was an ugly brown, but the shape of the car I liked.

It's kinda sad how these smaller car companies stopped importing these to America because of emissions regulations..
