Every version of every soundtrack for these games is excellent, but the soundtrack to the Super NES version of 'Out of This World' is my fave. Lester Chaykin was the Gordon Freeman of the early '90s.
I went to high school with a guy whose last name was "Bevis."
these two are my first lets plays by you and i like em! great commentary and not afraid to say fuck and shit. my kinda lp! this ending was terrible cause the hero died but still it gave it that bittersweet feel.
I agree that the ending is kinda crappy. Normally a good game/movie where a likable lead character dies so abysmally is always a let down, but showing him burned to a crisp and slammed between two stone slabs just takes it to a new low. Granted the revenge scene was one of the best though :)
I'm pretty sure that Eric Chahi only SUGGESTED that Lester die. Considering the fact that he didn't have much else to do with the game, I really still don't feel compelled to consider this game to be a true sequel. I've never played it, personally, but I love the original. Have you ever played the HD remake of the original?
@kubevubin Yeah, thats what I've heard. Its a shame he didn't really work on his own sequel, but oh well. Oh, I've been told about the HD remake, but I haven't actually tried it. I dunno, I'm kind of partial to how it looks and sounds on the Genesis.
@MikeNnemonic - Of the console versions, I definitely prefer the Genesis version. The SNES version has too much slowdown (and loading times, strangely), and I've never cared enough about playing the sequel to pick up the Sega CD version. I've heard that the 3DO version is quite good, and it has enhanced graphics, but I prefer the PC version as far as enhanced graphics go.
@MikeNnemonic It was said that Eric wanted the ending to the original to remain ambiguous/unknown so that fans could make their own conclusion to the franchise. Also didnt want a squeal to another world. By lester dying their is a conclusion to the story. He was unhappy about that. I would think that he would have a say in it since he is the creator in order to keep his work as is.
I used to dream that there was a 3d version of Out Of This World, like Tomb Raider but with gory deaths. How effing cool would that be? I've seen "Make Your Own 3D Game" software and have been extremely tempted..
Epic, indeed. I would've never realized that Delphine could score more than one great game back in activity. I've never played either OOTW or HOTA but watching this filled me in. Lester Knight Chaykin is inded the most badass Lester (and probably the most badass male red-head) of his respective era, and it sucks that he's dead, but at least he did it while helping to save an alien society from oppression, imprisonment, slavery, etc... RIP Lester Knight Chaykin
This wasn't a true sequal in the sense that the original creater intended for the ending of the first game to be symbolic of lester going to heaven. So guys, if this didn't happen, lester died in the first one. Be happy he died this way instead.
I don't see how you can get so attached to the character due to well...lack of information on the character, very little occurred with them to make you feel for him. I would really like to know.
You'd think after being liberated from a clearly oppressive government that you would wear some things other than black speedos.
I mean, I don't mind too much about clothes, but I like some color.
Anyway Mike, if you like this, I HIGHLY suggest you play the PC game "Iji" by daniel remar. It's a action/platform RPG inspired by it. It is not even close to how hard this is. I can't recommend it enough!
We need a sequel to this game where Buddy travels back through time to prevent Lester's death. Preferably by brutally killing the Red eyed bastard before he ever even gets the chance to lay a finger on Lester.
Lester continues his journey in this crazy ass world, continuing to be an awesome professor who eventually makes it home but not without some 'close calls' that makes him even more of a badass and, frankly, a legend, in their world and ours.
Funnily enough, this isn't even a true ending to OotW. It isn't made by the guy who made the first one, and he never wanted a sequel to be made... so Lester never really died, I hope.
well, mike, its been a nice LP, but if you're looking for an epic game like out of this world, but with a shotgun, try blackthorne on the SNES out, i had it and OOTW as a kid and liked both of them, because i thought they played identical
I can't do Blackthorne. l0rdvega did Blackthrone. That's not the reason I can't do it though. I watched his LP of Blackthorne... and after that, I know I just don't have the patience for all of that.
It's a good idea, but I don't just think I can bring myself to do it.
God damn it that red eye twat should have been ripped to pieces ¬_¬
Also that whole cremation thing was seriously fucked up, "You can do something for him can't you?" somehow I don't think that burning the fuck out of him in seconds is what you meant.
I only wish they would have shown his face getting torn off. Considering all the gruesome ways I had to die to get there, I don't think that's asking for too much.
Can't help it. He had red hair and was a bad ass. I'm going to miss that.
Plus... my Mabinogi character was a red head and could kick some ass. ... maybe that's why this bothered me a lot more than it should have. Kinda like it was striking close to home.
Yeah, PSX's Heart of Darkness, man. *Not* a kid's game. At least, not "E for Everyone." Gave me nightmares, it did. For whatever reason.
Oh, Lester. At least his killer got a long, brutal and painful death. And Lester's coffin serves as a constant reminder of just how awesome he was.
(I'd like to think he just woke up in some other world. "Out of the out of this world" anyone? Oh, many-worlds theory makes me feel so much better, sometimes.)
I really didn't expect this game to go the way it did. I don't know why, but it was always my understanding that Lester's back was broken somehow after getting grabbed right at the end... which is why he had to crawl around. Judging by this, I guess it was just exhaustion.
A lot of people had problems with this ending, it turns out. Many claim it was a rush job by the developers, but I don't know.
Still... I'd of liked Lester to live. Who knows... the franchise could have continued.
The Genesis game I was talking about is called Flashback. It's also made by Delphine Studios and it's got more of a feel like Out of this World than Heart of the Alien. ... I think it was also availiable for the SNES and SegaCD. Not too sure.
The PS1 title I was talking about is called Heart of Darkness. I think it was like three or four discs. Lot of CDs considering how short the game is. I blame the cinematics... which kinda suck, to be honest, but the gameplay is solid enough.
Thanks for playing through those - I don't think I'd have the patience for that...

Probably because I uploaded all the videos around the same time and just made them public one day at a time.
