I have just finished punching out all of the tiles and I like how they provide little bags for all of the pieces. I have the player colours separated in each bag, so it's ready to go whenever I get around to playing it.
The game box says 90m game time, I like how you say it could be over in about an hour. Only four rounds though? I guess with all of the options it'll be a game you want to keep out to have multiple plays.
This is a great video. I'm new to these kinds of board games. This was clear enough for me to get a workable first-glance overview of the game. Thanks again!
Carson City is one of my favorite games, it's a ton of fun! I recommend trying to find the SPIEL '09 bonus character "The Indian" as it enhances the game quite well.
Good Review, Though I'm not yet sold that I should get this instead of Way Out West, do you find it works equally well with any number of players, or is there an Optimum?
I guess love the western themes and dislike renaissance trading themes as much as you do, Tom! It's really nice and reassuring to know that we have similar tastes in themes!
Looks interesting but still not sure if it would win over my gaming group (worker placement hasn't won them over). We have an upcoming Ocho de Mayo game night where I was looking for games involving Mexico or Old West. I'll probably be going for Bang and/or Dicetown for the lighter fare but will consider this if I can pickup it up for a good price somewhere.
Uhm I thnik I might get this game even if I don't really like Far west theme. Tom, your reviews are too good, they force us to buy the greatest games!
I have always been into really light games but I'm glad I give Carson City a try. At first glance it looks a bit tricky to learn but It's actually simpler that I thought. Oh and it looks absolutely beautiful on the table.
IMO I also admire the fact that the game is clever and strategic without having to last for ages.
I like this background better than your green screen background

Don't you ever long for a 5th turn?

I've never played the game... how long does one of the four "rounds" take? How long is a "quick" game?
