this piece is just incredible: it has a great melody, that goes far from any melody that a simple human being can write, and it has an harmony that seems to want to go beyond any barrier of our hearing
And the MTV awards, and the general public, worry about the next rant by Kanye West to what's her face? Grow up people! Even the Grammies are worried about the popular crap that will be forgotten in a year with their CD's sold in the dollar rack! You are witnessing one of the best duo's in the history of the universe! They will never be forgotten and in the same breath as Mozart, Beethoven and Bach!
Can anyone else explain how these guys can be so damned cool and collected while busting out this madness?
How is it possible that just 2 musicians, playing many of the parts right alongside each other and with lots of spacing CAN SOUND LIKE A WHOLE SYMPHONY?? wtf. really, w t f
The double strike with the left pinky between 2:17 and 2:18 displays the depth and detail of his comping (left hand) while driving the story with his right.
The left hand is the backdrop to the story and the right hand is the story within the backdrop.
I'd like to see Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Lady GaGa, or any madly famous pop star do ANYTHING like this. There musical knowledge would probably pop like a balloon.
@bamwow09 Sure, in his genre. But compared to Chick he's even less then nothing… Chick smokes even most of the musicians he plays with and who he composes for.
@fstball4110 I'd like to see either of these guys produce stuff like Kanye makes. It's not even the same, appreciate both in their own right because neither one can do what the other does. That's like saying I'd like to see Michael Jordan throw a football like Dan Marino or something.
ITS Bata Rumba with out the H when Chick started out on the music scene he played with Mongo Santamaria and others theres an Album called Cuban Roots by Mark weinstein
he was conceptionly way ahead of his time above the Cuban players.
This tune has nothing to do with Bata just great playing
This is a great song. The rhumba is my fav. Unfortunately the sheet music hasn't been published, so if anyone feels like transcribing this, I'd love a copy.
What a fantastic musicians...
