  • Yes, it's a nice stereo. Who's the artist of the song ''knowing Her It's so True'' on that second 8-track ?

  • I have a soundesign system similiar to this but can't figure out for the life of me how to hook up the speakers to the console. Could you help me with this???

  • @elanp Does it have "phono" jacks on the back for the speakers?

  • @CassetteMaster yes that is what it looks like

  • Good Old Analog!

  • recently all the vintage stuff I see doesent work or its overpriced lucky I got a pair of sony floorstanding speakers for $5.00

  • Soundwise, does it compare to vinyl records?

  • ive got a realistic clarinette 103, and the 8-track players play head out of sync, and there is crosstalk on all channels, any solutions on how to repair this?

  • @luvsthose8230s There may be two holes on the bottom of the cabinet. One for azimuth and the other for crosstalk. It may either use a small phillips head or flat head screwdriver to adjust.

  • @CassetteMaster : thank you i will try that.

  • iPods need to be retrofitted to devices like these sooner or later.

  • Nice vintage system! Like it!I had just bought a vintage 70's stereo too! from a thrift store. Its a Sanyo. I got it for $10! LOve my vintage stereo! I dont have speakers to go with it yet. My turntable is similar!

  • does it have build in mp3 player?

    were can i buy it?

  • @defcreator

No it doesn't and you can't! LOL!

  • boing boing boing boing boing

  • Wow! Now that's what I call an "everything system". Thanks for sharing the video. I wanted one of these so badly when I was a kid.

  • i recognised a little sax riff in the first song from one of mark ronson's tunes at 0:59 !

  • what a deal

  • de veras k tienes cara de estupido y no haces otra cosa mas que enseñar tu vejestorios ¡como la que te pario! jajajaja bato pendejo

  • I take it that's a BSR turntable in this unit, right?

  • Right.

  • @CassetteMaster BSR Turntables seize when the lube dries, you better check it soon. I am as you know interested in soundesign and many other "Lower end" companies Higher quality efforts, and why they ultumately failed, in trying to reform themselves.

I like how they just glued a plastic truetone label on but neglected to cover the SD logo on the Tape holder. EPIC FAIL!

  • BartelDoo loves 8-tracks. :D

  • I have the one with a tape deck instead of the 8 track, mine works ok! i wonder if these are collector items, how much do these things fetch i wonder.

  • They are collector items.

  • Thanks for a quick reply! i found my yesterday when clearing stuff out, i have not use it for 15 years.

Its is a quadraphonic version, the records play ok and the tape deck plays, but just now the radio knob spins but needle dont move seems stuck, also the record changer dont seem to work, are these easy to put right, also how much do these go for on ebay i might look out for another one the tone seems good.

    Thanks for any help!

  • Prices on vintage equipment are never always consistent. They can vary from being a great low-price deal to a rediculously expensive price. The turntable will be most likely needing plent of lubrication, and for the tuner, the string that moves the dial back and forth is probably snapped. You may have to replace it and pay close attention to how it goes on everything.

  • Ok Thanks again! i will look into it at the w/e, what string do i use btw, also i have noticed when playing one the channels goes off, and i have move the switch up and down for it to come on is their fix for that please.

  • The string would have to be a very strong type, and it can be tricky to replace and you need to pay very close attention to how it is wound. The switch is probably just dirty and spraying WD-40 into the contacts should fix that part.

  • Ok great Thanks Alot!!

  • I had a go today at fixing, and sorted it all out.

But i played the cassette player and would not play, the fast forward works ok, and the spindle goes around when the play button is pressed with no cassette in. Also the rewind motor works but the spindle dont rewind.

I also noticed when i removed cassette section to look at the belts, a spring like thing fell out it is like inch wire with different angle small prongs and has a hole in the middle.

    Again Thanks for any help.

  • I wish stereo's were made like that now, with lots of clicking buttons and tons of bass.

  • haha. thats awesome. And I bet that cost a months pay when it was brand new :D Old technology rules!

  • I enjoy your videos very much. Cool finds

  • What a memory trip! Man how things changed when it comes to technology. Makes you wonder what will be out 20yrs from now...

I still remember the home stereos that looked like giant cabinets !O.o

  • hey u need to replace the turntable and get a new 1 the turntable is startin 2 die out slowly since its weak

  • the slow program changing is actually a pretty nice affect anyway are sure it's soundesign with a truetone label and not truetone that sez soundesign on it somewhere?

  • I'm quite sure it's Soundesign, with that SD symbol on it. I do know that's a Soundesign logo.

  • We should all rscue these old systems from Fleas market and Garage sales....they're cheap , work great and sound great....and they all have a story to tell....

  • are those two burnt out vacuum tubes I see? Right there above the tape well? Oh, that's the track indicator lights.

  • it seems that them older stereos like that,am reception is dang good and sounds awsome.

  • Who the crap would glue a Truetone emblem on a Soundesign stereo?! lol that is screwed up, but maybe it's got a story behind it. maybe someone had a Truetone stereo that they loved, and it broke down so when they bought this Soundesign, they pulled the Truetone emblem and put it on there as rememberance of their dead Truetone. Hm..

And is that slow 8 track programme switching a result of a gummed up head or is it supposed to be like that!

and did u get the BSR fixed?

  • love those old cheapo systems ... some were pretty good. I miss mine

  • I remember seeing these stereos in department stores as a kid.

    Thanks for posting.

  • hey u need to replace the turtabe motor it is a nice stereo but the turntable motor is slowly starting to die out

  • Tapes sure seem to have a certain "warmth" that digital lacks.

  • Hello CassetteMaster. Like your stuff, watched loads of it. I listen to your stuff through a sony legato linear str-vx4l receiver, purchased on ebay for £10, and they throw in the matching tapedeck. I got it hooked up to a pair of simpathetic sony speakers. It sounds nice. even decent mp3s stright from pc. Do you know what the subsonic function is for? turntable?

  • Subsonic is probably for very low bass, and might boost it or in might be for filtering rumble from a record. (turntable)

  • Most chances are that turn table has a worn idler or just plain weak motor those were good automatic record changers in the 70`s it probably hasnt been used for 35 years which compounds the problem. I have dat but rarely use it except for projects were it really has to be pro.

  • Is it mended yet? And do you have any DAT (Digital Audio Tape) machines or DCC (Digital Compact Cassette) players?

  • I have no DAT or DCC. My Uncle does have DAT, but I didn't look too closely at it, I'm more into analog.

  • me to

  • Blood Sweat & Tears is great!

I find their cd's on a bittorrent network!

  • forgot to say, the cause of this problem is the original grease used in these decks - it goes hard with age and needs replacing. the way your deck slows to a halt in autochange mode in the video is a dead giveaway. hope this helps!

  • 3. unclip and remove the rubber idler. relube its little spindle. Using an emery board or fine sandpaper, give the edge of the rubber a good going over. clean off and refit.

    4. clean the centre turntable shaft with alcohol, and the hole in the platter. Relube as before. (NEVER use WD40!) refit platter and you should be good to go! let us know how it comes along. I can send you more service help if need be.

  • I've repaired mny BSR deck with this problem. do the following and it should be OK:

1, unclip and emove the platter (don't eworry about the rubber mat it has nothign to do with your speed problem)

    2. unclip and remove the toothed cam. you may need to rock it about a bit if it is stiff remove ALL grease on the deck spindle, the cam's hole and its grooves and clean with pure alcohol. relube with light grease

  • Wow, this looks like a newer model to my Soundesign stereo like this.

Mine actually has some hum in the audio and stuff, so it needs recapped. Though the 8-track and BSR work great.

  • And as for one time, why the heck did they put TrueTone on the stereo? It's supposed to be Soundesign. I guess it was a brand name error. That was really weird.

  • They even stuck a Truetone label on the back over what probalably said Soundesign.

  • Awesome stereo, I got to see this one in person! it works great, but its a shame we're not sure what to do with the turntable. Ha I love spinning wheel!! Yay for BS&T!

  • Not a bad system. It's got quite a few switches and buttons! Too bad the record player is in such sad shape(say that fast!). For sure the turntable needs a new belt. It probably needs other things too.

  • very cool, man. 8-track and reel-to-reel is what I am lacking. I dont want a million of them, but would like to be able to buy a few now and then. Nice set. Good score

  • If there is a huge flea market in your area, they might have a reel-to-reel.

  • And don't forget, there is a flea market coming to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, NY on April 21st and 22nd. I'm looking forward to go.

If there is an 8 track recorder floating around, I'll get it! And I will record some Disney songs from a recorder and play it on my Panasonic 8 track player to see what the quality is.

  • hey i got that Blood Sweat and Tears album.... on LP!

Also, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY nice stereo!!! That thing looks like it has quality written all over it.

Odd how the turntable doesnt work.... usually BSRs run quite well, even though the plastic platter tends to ruin records.

aso, is that band called "The Peanut Butter Conspiracy Is Spreading"? This is the first time I've heard of this band, but their music sounds AWESOME!!! U should play that one song again on a better turntable sometime.

  • Yup, that's the record's name. It was my Dad's, and many people have never heard of it!

  • Nice system! 8)

  • it has a Nice dial Color.

  • Oh, one last thing you might not believe it but sometimes that was a symptom of a weak or dieing motor .... that particular model of BSR changer was popular in a lot of stereos from the 70`s one of the better changers also the one that looks like it that had the thinner cartridge head those two models BSR changers were the work horse of the stereos for record changers back then some had the BSR mini changer as well ..............

  • Did you clean around the inner surface of the rim where the idler wheel contacts with the turn table platter? does it turn freely? you should be able to hand turn it and it should coast a few turns! clean re - lube they never needed it in the 70`s but because of their age now days a cleaning wouldnt hurt remove or check rubber if their were wobble the tone arm should be moving back and fourth looks good on that from what I can see.

  • check the greased points in the bsr. Bsr used a crappy grease which solidifies after a few years. some bsr's are affected by this and some arent

  • BSR turntables are very sensitive to scratched records they skip. until you weigh down the the cartridge head thingie on the tonearm with two pennies.

  • Bsr made lousy turntables. Most of the cartridges were ceramic and required a high traking force(i.e. 3-7 grams!!!) My last bsr had a magnetic cartridge but still required a heavy tracking force. Most turntables had a magnetic cartridge by the 1970's

  • You gotta quit with the anti-radio crap already. Most of us here (including myself) enjoy radio programming in addition to other alternatives.

  • Dude! this is getting annoying! Stop trying to control people's lives, let Cassettemaster and the rest of us listen to our media of choice and quit trying to change us!

  • Absolutely coolblue... Some people just don't except that we're all different - I even like ABBA! Now, on a lighter note - time for a beer!

  • Same here! Cheers! I like ABBA too!

  • WHOOO Daniel!!! yea, I noticed Ricky deleted samuraiclinton's comments on here, otherwise I would have told him off too lol...

I wouldnt have thought you'd get mad and tell anyone off like that... but i would have spammed his homepage with vulgarities LOL.... but i wont because I might get banned from youtube.

  • Yeah I'm just "Slightly annoyed" heheh^^

  • The record player section looks like an old British Garrard unit.

I've no idea what's wrong with it though, sorry :)

  • nice set man! now the issue with record changer. remove the gear for the changer changer you know that gray thing under the platter and remove the old grease and add new grease because the old grease has dried out. my sears bsr turntable had that exact same problem and unstable audio as well. if itz hard to pry off after remove c-clip, pry it off using 2 crowbars or flathead screwdrivers. hope that helps!
