@angel4u32 well it can happen any term and I think I got mine from hot dogs. I tried not to eat any processed meat, but I couldn't hold anything I ate down, so whatever I could keep down I ate. Listeria can cause miscarriages, premature birth and severe infection in the baby. Thank God for the doctor that I had. But just to let any other pregnant person know, avoid processed meat, including sandwich meat, hotdogs, pepperoni, anything that's processed avoid. You can get Listeria from thatstuf

@Surrealist6 A lot of 28 weekers also have a thin chance of making it. I've heard of some who only live for about 20 minutes, and yes a 28 weeker does suffer a lot. They have to stay in an incubator for about 2 months sometimes more, they have blood transfusions, can develope serious g.i. infections end up having heart defects sometimes (which my daughter no longer has anymore). They may not have as many complications, but 20 years ago most were not expected to live.

@angel4u32 I had an infection and the hospital staff had tried to slow down my contractions and hold out on me having my daughter until I was 32 weeks, but my daughter was in fetal distress and every time they gave me something to slow the contractions, they would just get worse. When she was born, she had a rash all over her body and the infection had eaten almost half of the placenta. I had Listeria, which is very rare. I got it from processed meat, just to let other new mom's to be know.

My little girl is one of them too. They only gave her a 50%chance of survival. My daughter was 6 months gestation too. She's doing great now.

@angel4u32 How early was you nephew. Just so you know they are fighters and very fiesty babies. My daughter who is very healthy now, I took her to get blood work done and it took 3 people to do it, she is that strong and that much of a fighter.

My daughter was born at 28 weeks and some of the pictures that I've seen of aborted babies look like they were 28 weekers too. Makes me sad. I am pro-life. I pray that hospitals never get to where they are completely deciding for the mom what they need to do with a baby's life. But preemies are tough and that baby could have made it if they would have just tried to save him.

Again there are fates worse then death. First consider the survival rates of babies born alive after 23weeks is 11%, after 22 weeks 1 %

Before 22 weekks is extreamly rare.

The decsion by doctors not to preform heroic measures on the baby is based on that knowlage and the fact that even if the baby could survive it would likely have brain damage and other severe complications, or they may likely only be able to prolong its life a few more days or weeks for it suffer.

Though I am pro choice I do agree that this hospital was at wrong for what happened. It was her choice to keep the baby so the hospital should've did as she requested. Those doctors were very wrong, for what they did.

Unfortunately the chances of a child born this early are next to nothing. Next to nothing. Does it make sense to try to save EVERY fetus Every time? Live people who have a good chance could use that millions of dollars worth of care. A baby that premature would cost millions if it survived but sadly it would not. If the British tried to save babies like this and failed, they might have to count them as infant mortality statistics, which would push down their supposedly lower infant mortality rate to the point where they'd be equal with the United States (which they actually are if both systems counted the same way). It's not as if there's simply a group of people with an issue of hating for ANYONE to die so lets oppose the death penalty AND abortion. NO, it's "let's hate what's RIGHT!"
